... i took a peek at some of the UFA players that are coming out, (keeping in mind the cap), and wanted to see what the rest of you think. Antwan Barnes, DE/OLB, Chargers. Age: 26. Dannell Ellerbe, ILB, Ravens Age: 25 Dashon Goldson, FS, 49ers. Age: 26 Jared Gaither, OT, Ravens. Age: 25. Ray McDonald, DE, 49ers. Age: 26. Alan Branch, DT, Cardinals. Age: 26. Garrett Hartley, K, Saints. Age: 25 Barnes played under Rex Ryan in Baltimore, and Barnes could rotate as a 3-4 OLB rush specialist, whereas Ellerbe can provide depth at ILB. Goldson can add talent to the Safety position which three current Jets safeties are free agents, even though statistically Goldson didnt have a great season, that could be to blame on the fact he was playing through injuries throughout the season (Pool, Smith, Ihedigbo). I know that Gaither has back issues, but do you think if those back issues can subside that we can get Gaither to add to the depth of our offensive line? The most value out of the prospects are Barnes and Ellerbe because they are young, and rated as high as other free agent players at their positions. But like with Jim Leonhard, I believe Rex Ryan can get the most out of them in his defensive schemes. If we pick up Alan Branch (6-6 340), he will be able to add rotation at the nose tackle position, assuming the Jets go for a DE and OLB pass rushers in the Draft. Ray McDonald was a solid rotational end in the 49ers packages. I wouldn't be against having him as a backup. Desmond Bryant, is also a defensive end/tackle from Oakland that may be tendered but if not, he's 25, listed at 6'6 290 and I could see him getting a shot. He showed some promise at the end of the season when he was consistently in the backfield against the Chiefs (thats not saying a lot though). Lastly, Nick Folk isn't cutting it. He was inconsistent for the majority of the season, making a little over 75% of his kicks this year. However, the majority of those misses came in big games where the Jets needed him to come through for an offense that wasnt making plays when needed. Garrett Hartley is a young kicker with a big leg. He could be taken into consideration or do you go after Henery in the draft? This is a list of all the NY Jets Free Agents Santonio Holmes, WR, Jets. Age: 27. David Harris, ILB, Jets. Age: 27. Brad Smith, KR/CatQB, Jets. Age: 27. Shaun Ellis, DE/DT, Jets. Age: 34. Braylon Edwards, WR, Jets. Age: 28. Antonio Cromartie, CB, Jets. Age: 27. Brodney Pool, S, Jets. Age: 27. Nick Folk, K, Jets. Age: 26. 18-of-28 (64.3%) in 2009 and 30-of-39 (76.9%) this year. Steve Weatherford, P, Jets. Age: 28. Eric Smith, SS, Jets. Age: 28. Drew Coleman, CB, Jets. Age: 28. Wayne Hunter, OT, Jets. Age: 30. Trevor Pryce, DE/DT, Jets. Age: 36. Tony Richardson, FB, Jets. Age: 39. James Ihedigbo, S, Jets. Age: 27. Robert Turner (RFA), C, Jets. Age: 27. Jamaal Westerman, DE/OLB, Jets. Age: 26. Lance Laury, OLB, Jets. Age: 29. Kellen Clemens, QB, Jets. Age: 28. i highlighted the players that i felt we should resign: Clearly Harris is a priority as is Holmes. Weatherford led the league with 42 of his 84 punts inside the 20, with a league avg. of 42.6 (mainly because most of his punts were downed inside the 20) Ihedigbo is an excellent special teams players and tenacious on 3rd down pass rushing blitzes. Westerman gives us depth at the OLB position, I still think Westerman has the potential to be good and will come at a cheap price. Jets need to address: OLB, DE, NT, WR, S, and K in the Draft. What do you guys think?
