You have to give LT some runs up the gut though, otherwise every time he takes the field the defence know what they're facing and will overload the edge. Giving him some carries up the middle will at least keep the opposition honest.
Agreed... I think LT can still be an effective all round RB but the question is for how many carries. If he gets 10-12 carries/passes a game he can still be effective even if he's asked to run through the middle of the D. If he's asked to get more touches I'm not sure he can be as explosive as he's been so far.
The sad thing is that LT was actually utilized correctly in my view by having him take most of the load early in the season when he's hopping around like a rookie fresh out of college and letting Greene gradually pick up more carries as the season moves on in order to keep him fresh for the playoffs and the long term. Unfortunately I don't think we used nearly enough of Greene in the post season. One goal line carry in particular stands out. Thanks Schitty!
The thing with having LT is that if he slows down, we always have McKnight and his fresh legs to take some of the carries. I think his work with the scout team and on special teams have earned the coaching staff's trust. That last Buffalo doesn't hurt either.
I hope lt is brought back. Let him catch balls out of the backfield. If we want to run the wildcat still, he can do some of that too. Give him a few carries each game. But for the love of god, let greene be the primary ball carrier next year. Feed him the rock early in the season, early in the games. Do we really have to worry about him being fresh for the playoffs this early in his career? I hope not. He's splitting carries behind an amazing line. Its time for him to become the man in the backfield. tappin.. talkin..
I think we can get a less expensive, pass catching 3rd down back. Honestly, I LOVE LT, but don't think he has much left and don't really want him back. I'd rather sign a low-cost Chester Taylor type back.
Chester Taylor is on a 4/14 million contract. He might be paid more than LT. LT really isn't being paid that much for a veteran. You won't save that much money if you cut him unless you replace him with a UDFA or waiver wire type.
Taylor costs just as much if not more than lt. And seems to have less left than lt. In order to motivate lt to restructure, we should start looking at darren sproles! No way lt wants to be replaced by the same guy on two different teams! tappin.. talkin..
LT's leadership and experience alone is enough to keep him. He isnt being paid a lot and, although he may not be great, he is still good- shotty just has to use him right
