DALLAS -- New England coach Bill Belichick has won The Associated Press 2010 NFL Coach of the Year award, the third time Belichick has earned the honor. "I accept the award on behalf of the entire organization -- ownership, our assistant coaches and certainly the players -- they're the ones that stepped up and made the plays this year," Belichick said in an NFL Network phone interview. "We had a lot of new people on the team, young players that contributed. It's certainly an honor to receive this award on behalf of our performance in the regular season. Unfortunately, we weren't able to carry that over into the playoffs." Belichick, who won in 2003 and 2007, now trails only Don Shula, a four-time winner of the award For leading the Patriots to a 14-2 record, the best in the league, Belichick received 30 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the NFL. That easily beat Raheem Morris, who led a turnaround in Tampa Bay and got 11½ votes. Belichick has overseen a transition in New England to a younger team, particularly on defense. Of course, he still has Offensive Player of the Year Tom Brady at quarterback.
I mean as much as I hate the son of a bitch, its pretty impressive he managed to make the commissioner look like the total pussy and then won the COY in the same day.
It's still so awesome we completely destroyed their season. It sucks that we didn't make it to the big dance ourselves but it's still hilarious knowing the Patriots didn't because of us.
Raheem Morris was my choice, even after that McCarthy, Haley, Mike Smith, Rex, Reid, Tomlin were all ahead of Belicheat!!! Hey the NFL stops sucking the Patriots dick!!
How did Belichick win this award? Todd Haley took the Chiefs from also-rans to division champions. Mike Tomlin held his team together amidst a lot of chaos to start the season. Mike McCarthy has his team in the Super Bowl. Mike Smith led the Falcons to the top record in the NFC. Rex Ryan back to back AFC championship apearances. Andy Reid resurrects Mike Vick's career. All were better candidates than Belicheat. Heck what about the job Steve Spagnuolo and Pete Carroll did? What a joke...
Worst part about Patriots fans: Before season (Fearing the Jets would dominate): "This is a rebuilding year. Who cares what happens!" After Regular Season: "WE ARE UNSTOPPABLE!!! SUPER BOWL COMES THROUGH FOXBORO!" After Jets eliminating them: "Who cares!?! This was a rebuilding year!"
I'll buy the rebuilding year argument for why they didn't win it all. I will not buy it when their fans all started talking shit about how they're gonna win the SB in their rebuilding year. Once you start talking Super Bowl the rebuilding year argument goes to shit.
It is a regular season award. Belichik won 14 games with a team that was supposed to be rebuilding. He lost Ty Warren and Leigh Bodden before the season. He his starting right guard (Neal) and his replacement (Kaczur). They lost Faulk early and never had Taylor. Lost all of the defensive linemen except Wilfork down the stretch. They used two undrafted FA's in the backfield, 4 rookies on defense. They beat every top team in the league. Steelers, Ravens, killed the Bears, split with the Jets, Chargers, Packers, Colts. Those others you mention are all good choices, but there's no way Belichik was a bad choice.
I thought they had a chance. The fans who talked shit about winning a SB this year are samesones who jump on the wagon when things are going great. I noticed quite a few "new" shit talking Jets fans on this board once the playoffs started going their way. I also noticed that most of them have faded away since the loss.... All fanbases are the same, whether the folks on here want to believe it or not.... except Steelers fans, who suck big time!
well it is a regular season award so the fact that Tomlin is in the SB and Rex was back to back in AFCCG, the fact Mccarthy got the Pack to the SB is irrelevant. What Haley did in KC and what Morris did in TB are much bigger accomplishments. Also Spags is more impressive than what Carrol did. carrol had a QB and a team only a few years removed from a SB appearance. Spags turned a 1 win team into a 7-9 team a half game from a division victory with a rookie QB. Much more impressive than carrol.
I was just tossing names out there.... Belichick is SUPPOSED to do this I mean..he IS a "Genius" and all...right?
My vote would have been for McCarthy and then probably Morris. I can see why BB one but I don't agree with it.
To be fair, they beat the shit out of almost everybody coming down the stretch save for that game against the Packers. This is a regular season award and they ripped everybody in the regular season.
It's a regular season award. I can give a shit if a coach of a 14-2 team, that beat all the good teams in the league, won the award. BB might be a pompous cunt but he deserved the award. I just wish his acceptance speech ended with," For my next trick I will light myself on fire." Oh well............ Personally, I think Tony Sparano should have won.
