I have been waiting to make one of these for awhile now and am really pumped for this draft. The Jets holes vary as too what happens in the off-season so this mock can and will change substantially.

    1. Jabaal Sheard, OLB, Pittsburgh

Our number one need since last season has been pass rushing, we need an affective sack getter to really make this D and our Dbacks unstoppable. Ive been up and down on Sheard but I truly believe this draft many 3-4 OLB will be taken early so we get our biggest need out of the way with our 1st rounder even if we have to reach a bit.

    3. Lawrence Guy, DE/DT, Arizona State

In order for Sheard and Pace to get there sacks on D they need a 3-4 DE that can command two lineman's attention. Guy is a dominant End that has a quick step off the line, can collapse the pocket with ease with his huge 6'4 300 pound body, and has a high football IQ that Rex would immediately fall in love with. He drops this low ( back end of the third round) because he needs to be polished and learn to extend his arms and not allow blockers to control him on the initial snap. If he can fix this him and Sheard will be a QB's nightmare.

    4. Brian Lainhart, FS, Kent State

Im expecting Brodney Pool to be gone to make room for our major FA signing so we again have a hole at FS next to Jimmy, so we go with the IMO underrated Brian Lainhart. Lainhart has made a career out of forcing turnovers. In his collegiate career at Kent State he has picked off an amazing 17 passes and forced eight fumbles. If you want an effective ballhawk who can tackle, its Lainhart. Id actually be surprised if he fell to the 4th but it is possible because of his school. Brain is fast but needs to learn how to read the QB, if he can do so and learn from Jim and Rex he could be our FS of the future.

    5. Lee Smith, TE, Marshall

Smith wont exactly impressive the masses. He's not the best blocker or best pass catcher but he can do both effectively. Smith is a solid 6'6 270 who can help in the run game and is an extremely better blocker then Keller. He is good for Sanchez and the team as he is a mature guy who is married with 2 kids who wont cause any trouble but more importantly a leader on the field. He has solid hands and could be an effective target for Sanchez for awhile.

    6. Terrell McClain, DE/NT, South Florida

At 6'3 315lbs McClain is just an immovable wall. With solid strength and a mean motor Terrell was an effective DE and DT at USF. McClain is not necessarily NFL ready but he can come in and be effective in rotation with Ellis, Pouha, Guy, and Devito. This pick should sure up the Dline for a few years and leave no room for error.

    7 ( Arizona's Pick). Graig Cooper, RB/WR/KR+PR, Miami

Im not the biggest believer in McKnight and think our Punt return game needs to be amped up a bit more. So with this pick I go with Graig Cooper a home-run threat all over the field, hes a good pass catcher and route runner, a true scat back, and can blow by any defender. Sanchez would love a guy like this. Even if he's not in at plays for RB he can play WR in a 4 WR set or screen plays. He needs to re-learn how to hold onto the football, improve his vision, and must stay away from injuries. One thing that could change his stock and prevent him from falling to late 6th early 7th like I have him is the combine. If he does well there he goes up a couple rounds and we draft a OLineman or ILB.

Thank You for the read in advance!

I like what rounds you addressed each position in. Im not to high on Guy, A better DE prospect I feel will fall to us in round 3

Eh not as great as Guy could be in the NFL. He might be high on some boards and low on others but he is an anchor on the line and is a great guy on and off the field. He studies like Sanchez and is very mature. He'll grow on you if he's drafted to the Jets.

Also It was hard deciding if I should pick up a OLineman or ILB in the 5th, 6th, or 7th but wanted to get the biggest needs and potential before depth.

    Thanks for the input btw!

Do you have a connection to Guy or just become fascinated with him by just looking into him?

Great job! I wouldn't be disappointed if that were our draft.

just curious, do you see us resigning both Edwards and Holmes? Just asking since you do not have us drafting a WR anywhere, unless you think well address that somewhere else in free agency.

To be honest Ive read up on many scouting reports and watched tapes of the guy and he's just a beast that isnt getting enough recognition. He has some errors in his game he needs to round out his game, it might take a year or two ( thats why he's not a 2nd rounder) but in the long run he'll be a hell of a player.

I think we'll get back both for the sake of Sanchez, he needs them to become a top QB and to make our offense Top 10. I didnt make this draft with assumptions just basically what we need now if we had our major players back. Like I said this WHOLE draft could change by the middle of March.

Lawrence Guy needs to play stronger. The guy's a beast in the weight room, but on some plays, you'd think he'd never bench pressed in his life.

A lot of people seem to think Muhammed Wilkerson is incredibly athletic for a guy his size...well so is Guy.

He did a hell of a job taking up blockers this season so his linebackers could make plays.

Sometimes he can be overwhelmed by double teams and have trouble shedding those blocks, he's not the greatest at locating the ball, and needs to improve a bit on stopping the run. Other then that he really has great tangibles all around in his game.

haha yes I do use sideline scouting for negatives and pros on players, I can admit that. But most of any scouting sites you look at have the same general opinion. Its hard to get a real analysis on someone if your not actually out there as a scout or watching EVERY game he's played in.

Next time ill put a citation.

Does that attribute to him having a lack of endurance? or does he not have that problem?

I've always thought thats a stupid knack, who in the hell but a few select players in the NFL dont struggle against the double team lol?

    I can't f--king believe it & I really deserve it.
Took forever for me to put up a mock & you've beaten me to the punch selecting 2 of the guys I had - Sheard & Guy.

Usually if a lineman gets double teamed you want them to shed the block or move the line towards the ball to interfere with play. Thats really all the knack is in my opinion. They cant prevent the fact though and sometimes if they eat up Olineman it makes the OLB that much better.

Hahaha sorry man, been looking to put one up for a week, but since there was the selection draft on TGG i didn't want to take away any focus from that. Still post it though man, many upon many mocks will be somewhat similar , if not change up a player if you feel its needed.
