We can keep a lot of these players without slapping the "franchise" tag on them. Don't really see how Holmes OR Edwards can be worth that kind of money given there off the field problems. Harris is good, but worth 10 mil? LMAO
I know what I wrote. But I never called him Suckchez. Oh, and was I wrong on any of those? Sanchez has little accuracy for 55 minutes in most games. There is still a lot of doubt regarding whether or not he is the future. You might want to carry his jockstrap, and thats fine. But I am not convinced. And, I wont be until he can show that he can complete at least 60% of his passes, throw 20 td, and you know, maybe not have whole halves where he does nothing.
I've been saying we need to pay Harris immediately because I think he's the anchor of our D. All blitzing aside, and I know that this is probably not the best time to say this but to have a solid MLB whether its in the 3-4 or not is crucial. You need that sure tackler, but Holmes is a big-play guy, can/has win/won games for us.
FWIW, this blog is pretty good and it has franchise tag estimates for 2011. http://www.macsfootballblog.com/2011/01/2011-franchise-and-transitition-tag.html WR: 11.9 million LB: 10.3 million CB: 14.6 million At those rates I'd be inclined to franchise Holmes or nobody.
Braylon=Contract whore...Make him play for a contract again next year...and then then next too (as he can only be Franchised 2X in a row if i'm not mistaken)?
Why should we be more optimistic? Seriously, Tanny is probably the best GM the Jets have ever had, but that's not saying much. How many even good pass rushers has he drafted (much less great ones)? He ignored the OL for years and then had to use two #1 picks on it to shore it up. He's ignored the DL for years now. He can't seem to find a really good player unless he trades up for him. He's had some success in the 4th round and with UFAs, but not in the lower rounds. Either he, or Joey Clinkscales and his scouts need to do a better job of finding players in the mid and lower rounds.
what makes you say that braylon is a contract whore? and i believe you can franchise a player 3 years in a row, but that's just going to end up messy.
I think you can franchise a player as many times in a row that you want but the number either goes up by itself or the player's salary goes up 110% or 125% of the previous year...whichever number is larger. It becomes infeasible to keep franchising a player over and over again.
especially if Holmes holds on to the passes that Sanchez throws him. He did drop several this past season. Id rather have Edwards because he can catch and he blocks for our run game. We are essentially a Ground and Pound team.
I think you only have on franchise tag this year. And you can't trade until after the new CBA gets signed.
'06 1 D'Brickashaw Ferguson Virginia 1 Nick Mangold Ohio State 2 Kellen Clemens Oregon 3 Anthony Schlegel Ohio State 3 Eric Smith Michigan State 4 Brad Smith Missouri 4 Leon Washington Florida State 5 Jason Pociask Wisconsin 6 Drew Coleman Texas Christian 7 Titus Adams Nebraska 4 of 7 on 3rd round or lower picks. '07 1 Darrelle Revis Pittsburgh 2 David Harris Michigan 6 Jacob Bender Nicholls State 7 Chansi Stuckey Clemson 1 of 2 on 3rd round or lower picks. We traded Stuckey but that was a good 7th round pick. He's a good slot receiver in this league. '08 1 Vernon Gholston Ohio State 1 Dustin Keller Purdue 4 Dwight Lowery San Jose State 5 Erik Ainge Tennessee 6 Marcus Henry Kansas 7 Nate Garner Arkansas 1 of 4 on 3rd round or lower picks. This was a real shitty draft for us all around. '09 1 Mark Sanchez Southern Cal 3 Shonn Greene Iowa 6 Matt Slauson Nebraska 2 of 2 on 3rd round or lower picks. '10 1 Kyle Wilson Boise State 2 Vladimir Ducasse Massachusetts 4 Joe McKnight USC 5 John Conner Kentucky I'd say it's too early to tell either way for 2010, but I'd bet you both of those picks pan out into productive players. So that's 8/15 (53%) 3rd round or lower picks that are productive NFL players, and I'm betting that the '10 draft improves that number more. I'm guessing that's a pretty damn good success rate for 3rd or lower picks.
