Thus began my hatred for the Steal-ers, Rapistberger, Dan Rooney, and everything else associated with that franchise. I was actually happy when the Pats bitch slapped them in the next round.) 3.) 1982 AFC Championship Game vs. Dolphins 4.) 1998 AFC Championship Game vs. Broncos 5.) 2009 AFC Championship vs. Colts (I wasn't surprised really with the final score because the Colts that year were just that good but when it was 17-6 I thought the Jets actually had a chance, but I knew in the back of my mind that Manning would make adjustments and put up a lot of points in the 2nd half.)
Loss to Steelers in 04 still has to be the worse Even though now that I think about it, it shouldn't be. Because the Steelers were the better team. But back then, I use to buy into the media hype and thought for sure we were going to the superbowl because we beat SD. So when we lost it hurt more than the most recent one. That game and when the Mets lost to the Cards in the playoffs in 06 are the closest I have ever come to crying after my team lost a game At least this year we were getting blown out early, so it kind of softened the blow 2)Loss to the Raiders in the playoffs in 02 That was my first heartbreaking moment from this team. The Blair Thomas fumble game at Chicago was pretty bad. I thought the Jets were about to turn the corner.
geez, was that a monday niter - think it was and i believe gifford had said that the jets are starting to "turn the corner" when like minutes later thomas fumbled and the rest is history. must have been 1990 or so after walton.

Just throwing this out there, but the 00 season with Groh, and that loss to the Ravens that eliminated us from the playoffs.. We were up 10-0 at half. IIRC.. Could have been 14, I forget.
I remember that year very well.....1st time in the playoffs since I was a little kid....I was in college and I walked 1 1/2 miles each day to get the POST and NEWs and follow the team from my upstate college. Jets got off to an 0-3 start....gave up 340 yards RUSHING to the Steelers....then the Sack Exchange got into high gear.....a tie with Miami....revenge against the Bills for the 31-0 Opening Day loss.....Todd wearing a flak jacket to protect his ribs (I think he was one of the first QBs to wear one).....the Sunday night 4 PM game where he threw to Barkum with 0:16 left to get a tie of 1st place at 7-4-1.....man, reading the papers that week was a joy...I think I ran the 1 1 /2 miles to the newsstand every day in like 6 minutes !! Sports Illustrated should have had the Jets on the cover, but they gave it to "Dean Smith & His High-Stepping Heels" (without Michael Jordan in the pic).....Paul Zimmerman writing the lead story, "IN TODD THEY TRUST." 9 sacks against Lynn Dickey in the last game of the season to get both the Jets and Giants into the playoffs. I can NOT believe it has been almost 30 years ago....unbelievable.....young guys, enjoy life it goes pretty damn quick.
This is easy....1981 Wild Card game against the Bills. Agony!!! Fans who don't pick this game simply don't remember that far back.
We weren't beating Cincy the next week and/or SD after that....it was a good year, we came back strong from 4-12 in 1980 and Todd had a breakout year. Freeman had a great rookie year. Chris Ward and Marvin Powell were "The Bookends." I still remember watching that game and getting sympathy calls after the game from my college buddies (I was home for Christmas break). I also remember the Giants (who got into the playoffs when the Jets beat GB in Week 16) beating Philly in the 4 PM game later that day.
We were up 14-0 in the first quarter and had their great defense completely off-balance with the no-huddle when inexplicably we decided to stop running it (our only real effective offense the entire season) and our offense stalled the rest of the game, and Jermaine Lewis ran back TWO punts for TD's and that's all she wrote in 2000. The Detroit game the week before was actually far worse cause we were at home against a bad team, did nothing offensively and Hall missed a ridiculously short (30-35 yard) FG at the end of the game that would have sent it to OT. He basically got cut after that, we took Brett Conway to Baltimore but Hall got brought back under Herm and hit the winning FG in the last game the next year lol.
Don't forget...we beat the crap out of that VERY SAME Cincy team one year later in the '82 playoffs. Who knows how far we would have gotten if we got passes Buffalo. It was also the first time the Jets were in ANY playoff game in 11 years!! This Buffalo game STILL hurts!
The Chicago game bothers me because Blair Thomas was never the same after that game. He went into a shell. And Leahy missing a chippy (28 fucking yards) certainly added to the misery of that one. Oh, and Tomczak hitting Neal Anderson on the last play in regulation to tie the game was nauseating too. Just a clusterfuck. Edit: it was Harbaugh, not Tomczak. I don't want Cakes yelling at me. lol
