we need to do something about his contract before we dump him. he has like 5mil in dead money, and we will only save 400k when he is cut.
The only thing that can be gleaned from this summation is that Tanny's gonna "look" at Gholston. This article means nothing, and certainly doesn't guarantee anything. As far as I can tell, and as JFaulk interjected with the monetary values, he'll be here next season.
Mike isn't going to make a guarantee, but this is the closest Tanny has ever gotten to saying someone is leaving without really saying anything. I can see him being cut once the CBA is dealt with, so I hope its soon.
Our defense this year (assuming Jenks and Leonhard healthy) was only missing a monster OLB pass rusher. instead we had a monster sideline dweller. so disappointing..
Yes but you say retarded things all the time, so the fact that 1 out of 1000 was correct doesn't mean anything. Nice try though.
I found the following in the 2008 official draft thread. It is a closed thread so I can't use the quote feature that would bring you directly to the post. "Well, I hope he comes with a cattle prod to get his fat lazy ass in gear for every play of every game." -Don Allan1 was a huge supporter of Gholston.
The defense could have used a beast at DE too to free up the LBs to make more plays in the backfield. The draft should focus on a OLB and a DE that hopefully can come in right away and help out. They don't need to be stalwarts in their rookie year, but they do need to be able to help out with getting pressure and improving the front 7 rotation. I think Jenks will become a 3rd down/short yardage specialist for the defense. He can push a pocket and stop 3rd and shorts extremely well. Pouha can take care of 1st and 2nd down. no more pussies on the Jets. Gholston will be the last SOJ player to be on the team in the Rex Ryan era.
I think almost everybody knew he was gonna suck as a Jet but a) was hoping he wouldn't and b) didn't think he would be THIS bad
After that "I thought I lost my car but it was where I parked it the entire time" story he told on that NFL.com rookies thing, I had this gut feeling we were all mistaken. I wanted Matt Ryan and Chris Long over him. But I knew those two were gone. So I supported picking this bust. Since he's been drafted the pass rush has been shitty, obviously. That makes me think the Jets are going to select a beast in the draft.
It just sucks that Mangini basically drafted him out of fear that Belichick was gonna pick him up and transform him into the next Lawrence Taylor.
You missed a lot because the majority of this board was for the Jets drafting Gholston. You joined in April 2008 so you missed a lot of the Gholston fights in late 2007 and early 2008. In the months leading up to that draft I used to get into fights with people over Gholston. My war with JetsLookingForDWare started with our opposing views on Gholston. He said Gholston was going to be a dynamo and repeatedly called me expletives because I suggested Gholston was a one trick pony pass rusher (the bull rush) who wasn't even going to be effective with that one trick on the pro level.
