He was hired by ESPN because he is so anti-Jets. It's the same reason Mike Reiss was hired to be the equivalent Patriots guy, and he is a glorified Pats cheerleader. For the Jets job, they looked for someone quite negative. For the Pats job, they wanted a rah-rah guy. They made two very good hires for what they were seeking.
But there is actually a method to this madness. Boston fans have long ago proven that they will not support ANY media outlet that is critical of Boston teams. They live in a constant state of denial up there and refuse to accept any faults. New York fans are the exact opposite. They have proven that they love negativity and that it sells. Just look at this forum...we get a lot more posts here when things are bad than when things are good. The media is out to make money like any other business. They are not dumb enough to shit on the hometown teams unless data supports the idea that they sell more newspapers/ ad space that way.
Really? I've been reading him since the late-1980's and like most NY-are writers, he definitely benefits when the Jets do better. Why is being critical the same as disliking the Jets ? Francesa is a Giants fan who has stated his dislike for the Jets and their organization. Cimini probably grew up a Jets fan.
I don't think he is so anti-Jets as he is reactionary about the Jets. When they are doing well, he will write complimentary stuff about them, but when they are down, you could pluck his articles from the posts of TGG. Some writers have talent but decide to instead take the easy route and play off the emotions of the fans. Cimini is one of them.
Actually, the vast majority of New York sportswriters and columnists are this way. Peter Vecsey is one of the few that will give contrary opinion. If you want neutral, non-partisan, just-the-facts updates, then fans should read the AP and UPI reports. Or read The Times.
I've also never heard of team backing in the playoffs at 11-5. I think the Pats of 08 and 6 other 11-5 teams in history haven't made it to the post-season.
Cimini is just a SOJ journalist. As most Jets fans, he tends to see things in a pessimistic way and wait for the worst to happen. He's not anti-Jets, he's just pessimistic by nature.
This is the reason I don't go to ESPN.com NFL anymore. We don't view his articles = he doesn't get paid.
Another thread hijacked by junc being a contrarian for the sake of being contrary. Even putting him on ignore is not enough.
I did respond, it's not really a big deal. It's just fans being overly sensitive. I'm sure we can find positive articles too. These guys aren't paid to be cheerleaders. I don't need Rich Cimini or any "expert" to tell me what to think, I form my own opinions from watching so I don't get too upset if we aren't getting "respect". Isn't it funny a guy too scared to debate me has me on ignore yet he is always commenting on me?
I feel the same way about Cimini as junc, and just because he's critical about the team doesn't mean he hates them. Every Jets fan is just all up in arms because he points out things the team does wrong, maybe it's because he's an analyst whose job is to do EXACTLY that. It's not his job to baby jets fans after a loss or rile up the fan base after a win, and as soon as you guys get over this you'll learn he isn't the worst fucking beat writer out there (far from the best though). If you guys have such a huge problem with him after that, start your own sports blog and just ignore him, damn you guys bitch about the LITTLEST things.

Clearly, you fail to see the point. Jets fans enjoy reading honest articles on their team. Cimini is well known for bending the facts to suit his headlines, which are often a direct attack on a player, coach, staff member, etc., all the while slipping in underhanded digs at the organization. It's blatantly premeditated, and if he ever writes a fair article (i.e. pros mixed with cons, minus the digs) it's only because he's written 20 anti-Jets articles before that and he recognizes he may be getting a tad obvious with his contempt for anything Jets related. The fan base deserves fair reporting, not a snake in the grass. Manish is a great example of what a beat writer should be; write articles with an even dealing of facts, and offer sensible opinions with substance to back it up. If Cimini was posting his "articles" on Bleacher Report, you wouldn't hear a single complain from me. But he's on ESPN, where a good deal of articles and news posts on the team come from. I'd much rather have someone who at the very least is indifferent toward the organization, than someone who clearly hates it.
