gotta love andy. the reports of him working out have to be true then because if he was planning to retire he probably would let himself go
I remember hearing he started working out "just in case" he decided to come back, if that means anything. I really hope Andy signs.... Bartolo Colon? How the mighty have fallen.... doubt we get anything out of him. I like the Andruw Jones move, as badly as he's declined, he's replacing Thames and is waay better than him in outfield.
Yeah, the fact that he hasn't hit 100mph in 2 seasons is disturbing. I was really excited about him, as was most Yankees fans, and the fact that the team botched his development is pretty damn disappointing.
I don't think the team botched his development. I just think the injury removed that ability more than others have been willing to admit. I'm not sure the Yankees could have done anything differently that would have resulted in no injury. Not many pitchers can throw with extreme velocity on a regular basis and stay healthy. The attrition rate is very high for young pitchers, (almost) regardless of how they're handled. (Look at Strasburg.) Joba's case isn't special; it just gets more attention because the injury occurred while he was pitching in the bigs. But hard-throwing 22-year-olds injure their shoulders in the minors all the time, never to get the velocity back. That sucks, but it's the truth.
LOL win. So is it unlikely that Joba recovers from the injury? I never figured shoulder inflammation was so crippling but it makes sense.... Like others have said, it'd be a fuckin shame if the guy never got back to that level.
I voted for Sid Fernandez. I don't recall what the final counts were. You'll have to ass somebody else.
I don't really think that the shoulder inflammation was "so crippling" in an objective sense. The guy still throws pretty damn hard. Just not as hard as he used to... and when you're at the upper-upper-level of velocity, you feel the effects more when you lose it. That is, losing 2-3 mph off your fastball isn't as big of a deal if you are used to sitting at 91 and drop to 89; you were already in the "hittable" range. That's not to say that it's not a significant difference at that level, of course. But, as a pitcher, you were already in a range where your success in the majors depended almost entirely on your location. Pitchers with plus-plus fastballs don't have to rely as much on location. And Joba's injury seems to have dropped his fastball from that elite level down to the merely "very good" level. And I think it's hurt the effectiveness of his slider, too.
Do you think working on a change/curve/slurve or even a forkball could help his arsenal? I think I remember him using a change during his starter days? The guy is going to have to mix it up now that he can't blow everyone away.
He already has a good curve and decent change. He used them last year out of the pen. And it's not like a 95 mph fastball should be ineffective. He just can't miss as much as he used to. His mistakes get hit more now. And his sequences were so damn predictable last year.
Fair enough. I thought he ditched the curve and used the change once a blue moon.... I get what you're saying though, he can still be effective. I like the way the bullpen is looking right now.
Keith Law saying if Banuelos was a part of almost any other organization, he'd be up by September. Not a fan of Keith Law, but considering he's 19 that's awesome to hear.
keith law can suck dick. he was always hating on banuelos every chance he got. now he's overrating him. stop dude, stop.
What are you so pissed about? All these deals are no risk high reward...what do you think they should do instead?
I'm just saying id rather them give a younger kid a shot in the farm system then Garcia. Im not stupid, I know guys like Prior and Colon aren't going to start but if Garcia gets a chance over a guy like Nova or Dellin Betances I'd be pissed. That's all.
I'll take him. He wanted to be here and I think a repeat of his '10 numbers are to be expected. You can make the case the ballpark won't affect him because Cellular field is such a hitters park. At the very least the second Andy comes back, he's in a competition with Nova. Mitre can't start.
Yeah I don't have a problem with this signing like Ace says its the ideal Low-Risk High Reward. Its the only smart option right now.
