I guess we should get rid of Rex then too, right? his Dad never even won a playoff game as a HC. This is silly, whenever the O plays well everyone whines it is in spite of Brian, when we do poorly it is b/c of the playcalls. Players need to execute, if they do the play calls look great. I didn't love the goalline play calls but we still had 4 cracks at it and we didn't execute. EVERY fanbase whines about their OC, I was in NE last week and they were going nuts in that second half, even at Pitt on Sunday the Steeler fans were whining about Bruce Arians. Look around the league, see how many teams made back to back title games(w/ a rookie and 2nd yr QB no less). It's never as bad as it seems, Brian has done an excellent job developing a QB who had very little experience in colleg and also had the pressure on him to start day 1 w/ a team full of expectations. Take a step back and realize how good of a job he has done. This offense w/ Mark in year 3 w/ be a dynamic offense next year and Brian will be a big part of that.
If there is a season next year this offense being dynamic will depend on the skill players they keep, LT will be older, Mcnight is unproven and who knows whether the WR's will be resigned, so unless we bring back the whole offense as is, which was not dynamic this year, don't expect BS to do more with less.
I am very confident mark is going to take a huge step forward. Even if we only have Braylon OR Santonio this offense will be dynamic(and I still expect both to be back) as we'll have Braylon/Santonio along w/ Cotch, Keller, Greene, LT can still be effective,m I expect McKnight will contribute, we have an excellent OL and we can still draft/sign other players. Our offense will be big time next year.
The more I think about this and read some of your points the more I feel he has to go. The offense will continue to be inconsistent as long as BS is here. Go watch the indy game again. You do not think that Rex went in at halftime and demanded that BS run the ball? His gameplan was to throw the ball all over the field. So in BS expert opinion the Jets were more likely to have success throwing the ball against the NFL'S worst ranked run D. Stupid. The D struggled for stretches this year... A huge factor in that equation was the offenses innability to sustain drives and keep them off the field. How about the offenses inability to score early in games? That must all be on the players. They probably just stay up to late at night or drink too much during the week. He had 20 weeks to fix a problem and still the O waited till the last two minutes of the first half to move the ball in a title game. BS is a piss poor play caller, a bad game planner, and a coach that seems more confused every time you add another contributor to his offense.
That's just totally wrong. The outcome has nothing to do with the deftness of the playcalling. It's possible to call good plays and lose and it's possible to call bad plays and win. We aren't talking about marginal judgement calls here where it can go either way. The goal line sequence would have been unforgivable even if Greene wasn't running like a beast the whole drive. The fact that Greene was running like a beast, and he simply vanished when the Jets had the ball on the one says it all. The Jets are supposed to be a ground and pound team. If you can't run it in with three tries from the 1, then you dont deserve to win the AFC championship or go to the Superbowl. To not even try means Shotty has to go.
If the Jets had won the game, things would be different!!! NO FUCKING SHIT. You idiots with all these what-ifs and we shouldas can go eff yourselves. You're all fucking Bill Parcells and Vince Lombardi on Monday morning.
Lighten up there Francis, that is what the forum is for, so people can share their opinions from their sofa.
I think I've made my opinion about Schottenheimer pretty clear, but in case my emotions were getting the best of me(they usually do) I'll spell it out here. First, everyone should acknowledge that Schottenheimer has done a great job with Sanchez thus far in terms of his development. As a former QBs coach, Schottenheimer knows how to develop QBs and Sanchez's strides were made because of Schottenheimer's ability to lead. He's also put together a decent offense. Complaints about two receivers running the same routes within five yards of each other and being covered effectively by one DB aside, this offense got a rookie QB to the AFCC last season and returned him to the AFCC this season. It can succeed. The problem that most people bring up and I think is legitimate is the inconsistency of the play calling. Given the talent on this offense the ineptitude in certain games(Green Bay especially comes to mind) is pitiful. We've seen so many games we should have dominated where the offense simply puts itself in bad positions over and over. If this were a recent problem isolated to a young QB most would be more understanding but the point that, I think, makes this complaint legitimate is the fact that the same criticism comes up year after year. For all the teaching ability that Schottenheimer possesses, it's becoming painfully obvious that he does not know how to learn from his own mistakes. Situationally, he just seems to outthink himself far too often. He's done this with veterans(Pennington and Favre) and he's done this with inexperienced players(Clemens and Sanchez). Far too often, the guy just gets in his own way.
Great so let Brian go coach Cam Newton next year AS A POSITION COACH. Thats what he is capable of. IATA - You do not have to be Lombardi to realize that he is a god awful playcaller. While I will be very busy effing myself I will also find the time to say Shotty sucks...on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and especially on Sunday.
:drunk: My opinion on Schotty is this, he does draw up some impressive plays and his schemes are very inventive BUT I do have a serious problem with his play-calling. Sanchez is on fire and you pull him out to run the wildcat late in a game??? Greene is tearing it up but you basically bench him and put in L.T.? A team that can't stop the run, you throw 50 passes against??? Against a very disciplined team that is great against the run you run reverses??? You have big receivers and you don't run the quick slant, ever??? You have a tight end that allegedly causes match up problems against linebackers and safeties and you never are able to get those match-ups? How many years did it take him to figure out how to use Brad Smith (though many believe he still isn't using him to his fullest)??? He could never figure out how to use Danny Woodhead or get him out on the field but in two weeks, N.E. figured out how to use him to great success. Sanchez has a great play-action fake. Why isn't it used often? Sanchez is capable of using the roll out to great effect (see his use when he is under pressure) so why isn't this a part of our game plan? I can go on and on but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about and can add a few more. Schotty seems to have a scheme in his head and he NEVER adjusts it to the players on the field. He simply seems incapable of exploiting our strengths and plays up our weaknesses. This is why I have no faith in him as and Offensive Coordinator and as long as he holds that position, I have no faith that this team will advance any further into the play-offs.
I agree with everything except we do use the quick slant fairly often, and the reason Woodhead did not have a role is because we have more talent on offense than NE. LT could be used in the same role as Woodhead and have as much production. Swing Passes, Screens, and Draws. He is the perfect 3rd down back because he can block and is a threat out of the backfield. If Schotty is the OC we will never win a super bowl.
Agreed with all except maybe the last part. We could've made the Super Bowl had the defense played better against Pittsburgh and then who knows. Regardless, I wish he wasn't coming back.
True we could have made it but you and I both know that Schotty would have tried to write a new playbook with two weeks to prep and the offense would have sputtered. Coaching 101 Brian figure out what you do well and do it until teams stop it.
to get to the SB gotta be able to make excellent situational game calls.....both Rex and schotty proved they both dont have it.....but the O made everyone vomit many more times
I don't have a problem with that. The wildcat was pretty effective on most occasions. Maybe its just the types of plays we run, but I agree. The split needs to be more sensible. Go with the hot hand. If you are talking about the Denver game, they were doing a great job stuffing the run. I don't mind the trick play every now and then. A reverse, if executed nicely, would affect the run game in a positive way where the D would then be on the lookout, creating enough doubt to gain an extra half a yard or so. We had several quick slants. We won handful of games with the slants Santonio ran. Keller was our leading pass catcher. Problem is, Sanchez had FIVE targets with 40+ catches. In a run heavy offense, Keller wasn't too bad with his contribution. Could have been better, but the production would have been taken away from another player. You have a problem with the wildcat, then you complain why wasn't Brad Smith used in more plays. I don't get that thinking. It seems to be a common theme around here. People hate the wildcat, but they wanna see more from Brad Smith. How? As a WR? Sorry, not happening. Im not putting that on Schotty. Besides, Danny had couple of years here and still couldn't out do other RBs. He's just better in the Pats offense with Brady's presence. It was used plenty of times. Naked bootleg? Im glad we didn't use it on the 4th down play against Pittsburgh. They were ready for it. Sanchez is pretty good making plays on the run. But he's a better pocket passer. Run around in the pocket, buy some time, and he'll find someone open. When he's on the run, ball security can be an issue IMO. I basically negated all your points without much of a stretch. I think he adjusts plenty. If he starts to adjust a little bit more, we start calling him cutesy. One way or the other, the sword will always be on his throat. Our offensive players didn't play to their potential this year. Way too many dropped passes. I can't ever remember these many dropped passes in recent years. The problem I have is, we need to go with the hot hand at RB. I think Greene should have been used more. Im not sure who is responsible for that though.
im not being negative....but when you look at lions/texans/browns game....we probably shouldnt have even made the playoffs.......this year was more luck than skill....last year was more will than skill
This statement works both ways. We should have won against Ravens, Packers, Bears, and Dolphins. Luck goes both ways. We made HUGE plays against Lions and Texans. We deserved those victories. We got a huge fumble off Stuckey against Browns. Luck? IDK, but I like to think that we actually made the plays to win that game, albeit last moment.
Schein said something yesterday on loudmouths that I have been thinking for a while. Schotty is a pretty good OC, but he is not that good for the current Jets. I have always thought that he is kind of handcuffed by Rex. Because Rex is more of the "physical" "pound the rock" type guy and I think Schotty might be a guy who wants to throw the ball to set up of the run type guy. But he does what he does now because 1) That's what Rex want 2) Sanchez is not developed enough to run what he wants run and/or Rex doesn't want to trust Sanchez to do those kind of things yet. I'm willing to give him until next year before I start bashing him
