it would be at the end of TC, so that when he gets signed his contract is fully guaranteed. Kind of like Coles.
i love brad smith he can do everything on the football field i hope he is a jet for a long time but if we part ways i will wish him well everywhere except new england :gpc:
Gotta hope Brad is a the top of the list this off season....... and with this defense I don't see why the Jets don't make Brad the 3rd string QB.
Really? When this team has to re-sign Braylon, Santonio, Harris and Cromartie, Brad Smith is the guy I gotta hope is at the top?
Yeah, he isn't the First guy the Jets should worry about, but he should be at the top of the list of things to do.......... after Harris and 1 of the wideouts imo.
5 years later and people still want Brad Smith as a QB. When the fuck will this awful idea disappear.
Smith as third string QB could give us an extra active roster spot though. In most cases when you have to resort to you're third QB you're pretty much fucked anyway.
Not sure if that would even be worth it though.. just hypothetically thinking. I would love to see brad smith return as a jet. But truth is, he's never been much of a receiver and his wildcat formations are more of a gimmick and have never really came in to play in playoff situations. He's had great succes as our KR the last couple years but is replacable as cromartie has shown
QB is not a plug and play position like LB or DE, or even RB. He's a WR who is a do it all guy. Smith as a QB for a whole game would finally shut everyone up about this idea, because he'd show us exactly why every Coaching Staff in the NFL would laugh at this idea.
I know but the guy was an extremely successful college quarterback and has practiced at the position for us. My point was to only have to dress 2 quarterbacks and have smith be the third or emergency quarterback. But then if sanchez were to get significantly hurt (knock on wood) I don't know what wed do for our new backup as going in to a game with brad smith as the second guy on you're depth chart would be a terrible idea. Like I said probably wouldn't be worth it though (Edit) and smith at QB for a whole game is a terrible idea I would hope any jets fan would realize that.. and btw NDmick.... Notre Dame fan?
College success don't mean anything once you hit the NFL. Its been proven the world over. That 3rd QB spot has to go to a kid who can play the position correctly. You'd be surprised how many times someone continues to bring up Smith as an NFL QB. And the ND is for Notre Dame. I thought of the name during draft season watching ND prospects. 07 was a bad year. 08 was a good ND draft class, and the last good one too.
That's what I think, if Sanchez were ever lost for extended time we would probably have to sign a back up any way. Running the wildcat for a couple of drives would be the most time Brad would see in the worse case.
I see you're point. Come to think of it didn't the bears get down to their third QB on Sunday? Safe to say wed have been pretty fucked if that happened to us and brad smith had to play QB in the AFCG against pittsburgh. And diehard ND fan here that was a great class. Would love to see tom zbikowski come over and play for rex again.
What type of ability are you writing about? Miller definitely had excellent ability as a kickoff returner. The guy was a 1st-team All-NFL selection by the Pro Football Writers Association and The Sporting News in 2006 (both of those teams are not less prestigious than the Associated Press; there are less popular). He was not a good player from scrimmage, though. I saw that at Clemson and was pissed when the Jets drafted him. He wasn't a complete bust, though, because he did have a couple years of very good kick returning.
Agreed. Justin miller was a great returnman and fast as hell. But back to the topic of brad smiths free agency. He would have to be stupid to want to go elsewhere as long as we offer to pay him. He has a pretty good gig here with us I doubt many teams would be willing to incorporate him as much in the wildcat/option attack as much as we know schotty loves to.
Before you consider signing Smith, you guys have to decide if you're going to try running wildcat offense. Dolphins pretty much started this craze throughout the league but they don't seem to be running it as often as they used to. Smith was a really good returner but Westhoff has had many good returners. Which makes it tough to determine how much of it is on Smith & how much of his success is based on the system. Covering kicks, Smith was pretty good. As WR, Smith didn't have the best of hands. He's definitely not an elite WR but he can function as a 3rd or 4th WR. Really good thing about player like Smith is that w/ all the roles he can play, he really adds to your depth. Like I stated earlier though, Dolphins need to decide what they'd do w/ Smith before offering him $$. I'd expect Smith to be available w/ all the FA Jets have to worry about this off-season.
Losing Brad Smith would hurt. There are too many things he does that we would have to replace if he goes elsewhere.
Didn't westhoff say at some point "If Brad Smith goes, I go" ? Because if he did, I believe we bringing Smith back, prior to him hitting the open market where he can be overpaid.
