Being a Dolphins fan, I hate facing Brad Smith and I'm well aware he's set to hit free agency this year. I also am well aware the Jets have loads of good players they need to resign, and not enough money to sign them all. There has been a lot of discussion going on amongst Dolphins fans about Brad Smith, and the chances of him landing in Miami. I would love to bring him in, as he is explosive and a threat to take it to the house on every kickoff. I was hoping I could get some feedback from you guys on whether or not you think he will be retained or will be allowed to hit free agency. Thanks in advance.
As a dolphins fan why would you hate him ? You guys would actually have to score to worry about him returning kicks back on ya. That said I think him staying depends significantly on Cromartie leaving. If Cromartie is gone I think chances of him staying going up.
Do you guys think Braylon is gone as well? Also, who would be considered top priority? David Harris, I assume?
He's a very good KR but I think it needs to be put in context; we have had a great return game every year since Westhoff got here. The Jets lead the NFL in kick return TDs since 2001. I would love to have him back but I think some team will overpay for him during the offseason and won't get the production out of him that we did.
Much as I'd like to see Brad Smith as a Jet next year, the fact is we have limited cap space and a lot of guys to re-sign, and a lot of them are more important than Brad Smith. Not to mention you can't put it past Tanny to sign another big-time FA. I do hope he doesn't end up in the division though.
He also has that X-factor kind of make up. I don't know how much Miami will use the wildcat anymore with both Dan Henning and David Lee gone, but Brad Smith certainly could be effective out of it. As much as I hate the wildcat, when I've seen him run it with the Jets, he has typically picked up good yardage. However, the Jets offensive line is far superior to Miami's. Miami's poor offensive line is a big reason why our offense was so horrendous this year.
From what I've learned anyone can thrive as the KR with a Westhoff led ST. However, where Smith helps is the wildcat and kick coverage units. He's extremely valuable in that role.
I agree. Justin Miller, Chad Morton, Leon, Smith, and others have all thrived here. I feel like every player we have on KR has a shot to bring it back.
All of those guys had ability though, except for maybe Miller. I don't even know if that guy is in the league anymore.
FYI We only have one more year of Westhoff http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/08/special_teams_coordinator_mike_1.html
That'll be a huge loss for the Jets. Westhoff is and always has been one of the best special teams coaches in the league. Hard to replace a guy like that. I know first hand how much special teams can fuck you over. It basically derailed the Dolphins entire season. Blocked punt against the Jets the first time and in the Patriots game the first time we had a blocked punt, a blocked field goal, and a kickoff return for TD. 21 point swing right there. It's amazing how special teams can cause a team like San Diego to miss the playoffs.
:rofl2: That piece of trash never showed up except against the Jets. Never understood why, but damn it was great to watch. With that said, I'm glad he's finally out of Miami. What a shitty pick. We passed on guys like Patrick Willis to take him. Laughable. Absolutely laughable.
Even Cro did well. McKnight and Wilson should continue the success. I'm excited to see if Joe comes into camp ready to be the complimentary back to Greene if LT is cut during camp.
Your QB situation is absolutely laughable. As is your front office and coaching staff. Do you want Kellen Clemens and Sal Alosi too?
Tomlinson would never get disrespected like that, and he would never let himself get disrespected like that. -------------------------- I would hope Brad Smith is re-signed.
