Hey, I didn't listen to sports radio all of last week, and refused to relive the game with co-workers or friends. For me, at least, I need a week of mourning when things go this way. You guys will just have to learn to live with accepting the bad that goes with the good. Your team is gonna win one of these years I believe. But with the fun that goes with having a team that has a chance to go all the way every year, comes the reality that most years are gonna end with that bitter bile of not quite getting there. You get past it, and get psyched for the next run!
After LT got stopped at the goal line, I went into the garage and smashed a couple of old ski poles against the wall and cursed the gods who put me in this place. Then I went back inside, watched the Jets fall just short, and stoically watched the postgame. After a few more beers, I told myself it was just a game and went to bed. I feel empty and sad today, mostly about having to wait another 7 months for more Jets football. Move on people. It'll be OK.
I don't know how my emotional investment stacks up against some of you guys who can't get over this stuff for days or weeks. If i'm not as emotionally invested that's fine with me because I still follow this team 365 days a year. I know that is the one sports team I am a fan of that when they do finally win a championship I will break down in tears of joy. Any other team would just be a cool excuse to get shitfaced and do something stupid. I tend to think that I have a more rational outlook on things. It would be great to expierience a Jets superbowl victory but guess what happens the day after superbowl sunday? Monday morning rolls around and real life starts again. Win or lose real life is always going to start again the next day.
That was gut-wrenching. If we play 5 minutes in the first half, like the 2nd half - Ben would be out allegedly picking up allegedly 16 yr old girld allegedly right now. Luckily my boys are too young to take this as seriously as I do (I could learn something...). This is still the only website I'll read all day - misery loves company. Why is always the guy who can't name 3 people on the team, but talks smack? After that email, the little use he had to me is gone. He just lost a shit-ton of business from his biggest distributor in the US, and no skin off my back. Makes me feel better that I can darken the day for someone who roots for shittburgh. DRAFT A PASS RUSH and enjoy the offseason.
This is probably the wrong place to look for someone to help you handle your issues. I'm not a psychologist, but certainly there was more to your relationship than the Jets. Try to equate other times and places and common interests other than Jets wins. Jets wins are not dependable and I'm sure she would have known that. She would have also enjoyed the ride, not necessarily expecting a SB win every year. But more importantly, why not try to reach out to another person who shares your loss? Certainly there are support groups filled with people who are in the same boat as yourself. Perhaps there's a woman out there who's looking for you, ever think about that? But at all cost, avoid using Jets wins as emotional support and Jets losses as negatives, even if yuou have to stop rooting for the Jets. The Jets have nothing whatsoever to do with your loss (our loss... the nation's loss), and instead try to look at her not through the Jets but as the individual that she was. Certainly she was much more than a Jets fan, to you, to her family, and to anyone who knew her. Most importantly, you've got to move on for your own sake. Find a support group that meets once a week and you'll probably find someone who shares your pain. Sooner or later, you'll meet the right girl who you'll love just as much.
haha....... I work from home, but also going to night / weekend class. Making a career change at 36 isn't easy, but it's something I want to do. Sports are just a good distraction from "real life"......... to be honest, we all take this shit too seriously or else we wouldn't be wasting time online "talking" about the JETS all the time. I think some of you cyber-shrinks are reading too deep into my post
Guys, thanks for that game. No disrespect at all, and one thing Steelers and Jets fans can both agree on is that we hate the Patriots. I give you guys at least two years to get to the Super Bowl. New England's time is up for now. Yes, you guys will get the division and host a playoff game soon.
2 years? Just like last year we were one half away from it? Sacnhez played friggin great and the D let up 0 points and 75 yards in the 2nd half. That BS fumble call was killer. Hopefully you get the real Troy back for the Packers other wise Rodgers is going to torch your secondary.
yea I'm starting to worry about the guy. All those late nights+stress aint good. But as for me, I'm taking this loss badly but I'm starting to heal. I really thought this was it this year, but we're a few pass rushers away from becoming elite. In retrospect there were a few glaring holes that we didn't answer...hopefully a year of drafting/fa solves this. I hate how emotional i get with this team. Absolutely hate it.
I'm pretty drained, too, but I would probably be just as tired if the Jets won. Heh. Watched the post game show until I started nodding off, then up at my regular time because the wife had to get to work early, so that's the why on the tired part. What is draining, though, is that the Jets really had me believing. It was not so hard to get me there as it would be if I were a darksider, but it took SOME doing since I'm not a pollyanna fan, either. I am a big fan of Ryan's, and I not only hoped but began to be convinced it more likely than not that this time the team would get over the hump. But it didn't, and they didn't go any farther than last year. Last year I actually had more optimism about the coming year than now. I thought the Pats' loss to the Ravens last year meant the Jets had the inside track to win the division and get some home playoff games. Despite beating the Pats twice this year, I am less optimistic they are really in the Jets' rearviewmirror. Meanwhile, how likely is it that the Jets will be able to keep this good a roster together, or hopefully an even better one, and not have to depend on building up a record with last minute wins over the weak sisters of the schedule? I also thought the Jets were going to play well and if they played well they should beat Pitt. They didn't play well, and then I come here and see posts, too many posts, by people who seem to assume it's a given the Jets will do at least as well next year as this. It is not a given. The truth is no one here can know the Jets will be as good next year. So it's the beginning of the off season. Hopefully spring is not too far off. Life goes on. Oh well...
I'd be way MORE tired if the Jets had won. I'd have been up half the night watching replays, listening to post-game analyses on every channel I could find. But I would be so happy dragging ass today in that situation.
I agree 100% with this, except I am his biggest supporter. :beer: He made such a big jump this year, has very impressive playoff stats and entering his 3rd year we should see a real big jump now. I hope to god we can keep Holmes and Edwards. (As long as Edwards is a free man)
I think the feeling we have is like you building a 100,000 Piece jigsaw Puzzle, getting to the final 50 pieces and someone coming and flipping the table. Just the amount of Time you had vested. I realize the players feel worse but I don't have a $10/$50 Million dollar paycheck to fall back on and ease my pain. I went to every rally, went to all 10 home games, Grew a fukin disgusting beard, made videos, recorded & edited everything I could find Just sooo much time vested in this team and the part that hurts the most is that I do it every fukin year! So excuse the fuk out of some of us who are getting a little tired of getting our jigsaw puzzle pissed on every year!
no kiddin' I've said before and will say it again, people that think like this are certainly entitled, and i envy them.......but to me as a life long fan, I ride the emotional roller coaster with the outcome of each game......watching my team in the Super bowl has been like a dream since childhood, it also makes my investment in the franchise more than any player, coach, management etc. The Super Bowl itself has always been my favorite sporting event of the year by leaps and bounds, even without my team in it..........that fact that they've been 60 minutes from it 2 years in a row certainly hits hard. I won't get over it probably until i see Clay Matthews drill Rothlisberger, forced fubmle, Green Bay TD!! (and maybe a winning box in there somewhere!!)
Emotionally investing yourself in a sports team is a very interesting concept I think about a lot. In fact I think about all the time. Is it irrational? Yes. But emotionally investing yourself in anything can be seen as irrational, because truly the only thing that matters is that you are here breathing. That is enough to be grateful for. So in conclusion, different strokes for different f...f..ff...people. I don't think emotionally investing in a sports team is any more irrational than investing emotion in anything else, even things like your job. I think you have to prioritize these investments, however, so a job and your health of course come first, but these things can still be on the same list. (just in a different order) With all this being said its going to take me a week or two after the superbowl to stomach this loss, but I've got plenty of other shit going on to occupy my time. Although I must say that I wonder from time to time that "I might just take this shit too seriously!" I think its kind of fun that way though.
Superbowls are so much harder to watch when you were only one game away from it. I never minded the Packers and hope they kill the Steelers, but this one is going to be hard to stomach, especially if I have to go out to a party and listen to people talk about the Jets this and that. I might lose it.
