Is it realistic to want to have Drew Coleman bulk up and convert him to a strictly pass-rusher (similar to Ihedigbo's role), or does his height kill that thought right away? He would not be the answer to our pass-rushing needs, but he would provide depth and knowledge of the defense. I've said it all season long, he is good for one play a game, and that's it. He lived up to that theory yet again last night by putting pressure on Ben to force him to throw the interception to Pool. I've seen him miss too many tackles over the course of the season, and if I recall correctly, his coverage in the secondary is nothing to write home about. I know he is a Free Agent and may not even be re-signed, but is it worth thinking about should he come back?
yes he needs to come back. if we also can get a legit pass rushing lber our defense will be less predictable w/ drew coleman blitzing. IDK about 'bulking' him up though. he needs to work on his upper body strength if anything. WR's stiff arm this dude like hes a baby.
A QB's wet dream. Every opponents Offensive meeting prior to playing us starts like this. "The Number one rule is, if you spot #30 in coverage, go there with the football"
Why do most Jet fans hate Coleman? They see completions to him, but they fail to see that he gets targeted more and more because of our 1 and 2's. He does a damn good job and is very under appreciated.
we hate him, because of his past. hes a good player, but its hard to trust the dude(but who is the best slot corner in the league>? i have no idea) i laughed my ass off when coleman gave up a 30yard pass this year, and then stripped the ball.
No, I recognize that. His size is what kills him in that instance. Like JfaulkNYJ said, he gets stiff-armed and pushed around with ease. I will give Coleman his due, because I have seen him making saving tackles here and there, but more often do I see him on missed tackles and poor coverage.
I've seen Drew Coleman in person many times. He looks like a Division 3 point guard. He's probably really about 5-6. I think it's incredible that he is where he is, and I think we're probably getting more out of him than we can expect. We need to let Coleman go. We have plenty of depth at cornerback and whatever salary he makes will likely be too much. We need to re-sign Holmes, Edwards, Harris, and maybe even Cromartie. -X-
Plenty of depth at corner ? We converted lowery to safety (ie lost 1 corner), and were very likely going to lose Cromartie (that makes 2 corners) Not only do we not have plenty of depth corner, but id say we are almost certainly lacking depth at the position now.
With all due respect, I stongly disagree. He is garbage. Also, please watch that last kickoff coverage after the Jets made it a one score game, Drew Coleman butchers the damn coverage and instead of Pitt starting at the 20, they start at the 40 which dramatically changes the playcalling. Someone please watch that kickoff, it is literally one of the worst plays I've ever seen, Drew Coleman looks like he is literally blindfolded on the play
Like I said, he's responsible for so much. Revis and Cro get study 1 WR for the most part. While Coleman has to study much more, and again most Jet fans only see the passes being completed. They don't get the camera angle where Coleman is all over his guy. Many times it's just a good throw too. We can't have a Revis at every freakin corner spot. If Wilson worked out we would've been in much better shape. I still think he will.
Probably. I wouldn't mind re-signing him (for that price) for the position he already plays, however, if he were to bulk up, his position could change, and it might benefit him and the team more than he currently is.
Kyle Wilson is the future and the answer. Screw Drew Coleman it's the system and playcalling that gets him free runs at the quarterback. Anyone can do that.
He's 5'9", 180, and 27 going on 28. Assuming he's not maxed out after nine years or so in college and NFL strength programs, how big do you think he could get? 190? EDIT: In cast it's not clear, no we can't turn the guy into Polamalu.
Yeah, he sacked Brady. As I stated, every game he is due for one good play, and that's basically it. I've seen him play well in coverage and make tackles, yes, but I feel as if I see him playing poorly in coverage/missing tackles more than he is playing well.
He also made a good play tackling Welker on that 3rd and long, keeping him in bounds, which resulted in the Pats not being able to get the FG attempt off before the 2-minute warning. He's not great, but I'd say he's above average. What do you want out of the 5th CB on your depth chart? If he were a stud cover guy, he'd be starting for an NFL team.
It's not that he gets targeted and allows completions, rather, it's the way he gets beat. Whenever he allows a completion, it's either because his WR (who, keep in mind, is also further down the depth chart on his own team) abuses him with several route-moves, or he has no idea how to locate the ball. To me, Coleman's skillset seems like it'd be best suited for a Cover-2 or something like that. If he can keep a WR in front of him, he's fine because he can close, make a sure tackle, and even force a turnover by aggressively going for the ball. I'm pretty sure that's why he's successful and make plays when we see him blitz or stuff a WR on 3rd&5 before the WR can reach the 1st Down marker. But in this D - Man Coverage - he's fucking terrible. Either make it obvious when he's in the game (i.e. he's blitzing or playing a short-yardage zone), or take him out completely for a true cover-CB. He's been burnt too many times on important Downs to still be relied upon.
