I knew very early in the game this was going to be one of his games We ran that same stupid play with LT running right up the middle with a WR coming on an end aruond even though he wasn't getting the ball. The of course we get momentum and stop force a turnover on 4th and 1 and he runs a fucking reverse. Sickening
That and the pass on third and goal after Greene was killing it in the 2nd half. Just give Greene the fucking ball already. If Schottenheimer is still here next offseason and Greene isn't getting the majority of the carries, any victory the Jets have will be in spite of him, not because of him.
The loss can be attributed to a lot of different reasons. HOWEVER the game ended for us when those horrendous playcalls were made inside the 3 with about 7 minutes (I drank a lot; is my timeframe correct here?) left in the game. We ran the ball successfully on that drive and, rather than continuing to pound it INSIDE THE 3 we pass the ball, finally running it on 4th Down. FWIW, as soon as that happened, I said the game and season was over. Feel free to disagree, but this type of mistake in the AFCC is absolutely inexcusable and undeniably terminable.
I intended to address this in my post, but I forgot. I know Rex deserves blame as the HC, but WHAT THE FUCK does it say about the OC when a 2nd-year, 24-year-old QB is vehemently asking for the next play with the game's outcome on the line? Seriously, Sanchez should've just said, "fuck you Schotty," and immediately called a play himself.
Probably best that the defensive-minded HC didn't call any plays for the offense. Then again, he might have ran it with Greene...
The more I replay this sequence in my head, the sicker I get. As a fan, I demand an explanation from Schotty of those playcalls and an explanation from Rex of why he didn't override the playcalls.
With all due respect, Rex should've been calling those plays or, if anything, vetoed the Pass playcalls and called Run instead.
Yeah I don't want Rex's job, no complaints about him from me, I view him as the "right reverend". He should be capable to step in and run the offense for a play or two when he sees his subordinates are incapable of doing so, but his baby is the defense. This is Schotty's fault for not letting Sanchez air it out more, and not just calling runs on the goal line. The defense played their hearts out in the second half, and the offense had an opportunity to win the game, which was blown by Schotty with about 8 minutes left.
What's done is done but, honestly, I want a fucking explanation from Schotty because this failure inside the 3 could've been avoided. Defense is pitching a shutout in the 2nd Half. Momentum is on our side as Pitt's D is on its heels with 8 minutes remaining. And then..................................................................
I'm not arguing, I agree with everything. We score a TD (fuck the safety), it's a whole new ballgame. Also, you can ask Schotty why it took so much damn time get the plays in in the 4th. Like the man never heard of a hurry-up offense before. An offense Sanchez runs well.
Just as bad as the goal line sequence was the time mismanagement in the 4th quarter. The Jets are down two td's with less then 10 mins to go, and the offense is huddling and burning the whole play clock on each play? Where is the urgency?
I agree that the HC should have a command of both the offense and the defense. I understand him wanting a lieutenant to cover the areas of the game in which he isn't too well versed but at the same time he should be able to step in when he thinks it is right. He would not have been over stepping his bounds to veto the pass play and call the run, if that is what he in fact wanted to be called. Schottenheimer's inconsistencies and flaws have been holding this team back for 5 years. I think he has been given enough chances to figure it out and the fact that we keep having the same discussion about him this late in his tenure as OC of the Jets is telling of his inability to learn from those mistakes. It's simply time for the team to part ways with him. He may be successful with another team with different personnel but it's just not happening here.
Yeah, the Safety was nice. But compared to what should have been a TD (on our possession prior to that), the 2 points was virtually meaningless at that time in the game. Trailing by 7 points, with 7 minutes left, when the D was buzzing is totally different than trailing by 12 points with 7 minutes left. This is why I initally said that that failed sequence inside the 3 essentially ended the game.
The best part about that 2nd & Goal from the 1 is that it took Schotty the entire playclock to decide that he should pass the fucking ball. FAIL. I hate Schottenheimer with all of my heart and I wish there was a youtube video of how IRATE I got at the Jets bar when that possession ended the way it did. It would have 5 million hits already.
no shit. that's what I wrote. lol. you must be drunk. I am too, but read my posts, I've agreed with every thing you've said. I wrote plain as day: fuck the safety
