Heading into last weeks game against NE I thought Mangold vs Wilfork would become the most important matchup for the Jets on the offensive side of the ball. Against Pittsburgh, I feel that Mangold vs Hampton, along with Brick vs Harrison will become two of the most important matchups. Over the past couple of seasons, I've ranked Jenkins, Hampton & Wilfork as three of the best 3-4 NT's around. We all know the Steelers D ranks #1 against the run; Hampton is the main reason why. He's only put up 20 tackles this year, but this mans job is to take up blocks; & Hampton does that as good as anyone. He's 33 years old, so maybe Mangold, along with our ground & pound can tire Hampton down. If Mangold can win the battle of the trenches against Hampton, we'll be able to attack their 2nd line of defence with our run game. I also feel that Harrison is just as deadly as Palamalu. He's a lethal pass rusher. I'm expecting a war between Brick & Harrison. Win these 2 matchups, & our offense should enjoy plenty of success.
Their front 7 didn't get their name called the previous game. Things will be different with Troy Poly out there. But I really don't think he's 100% and won't be the typical beast we've seen.
Those are going to be some intense matchups. Harrison is a beast, but Brick owned Freeney and Mangold was a monster against wilfork. Hampton gets gassed, they sub him out a lot.
On the big stage, these guys have come up big. Mangold gets a lot of love and rightfully so. Its time for D'brick to get more love and I mean first team all-pro His pass blocking has just been dominant this year Jared Allen Clay Matthews Mario Williams James Harrison Julius Peppers Dwight Freeney Maybe there are others I have forgotten, but all these guys got shut down by D'brick. Amazing
Like the poster above stated... All of the above really did run into the Brick wall. Ferguson has been our Revis on the offensive side of the ball.
I have to say, I like the Jets chances if it comes down to these 2 matchups. Last week Pitt's D had their way with the Ravens. The Ravens Lt and C are nowhere near as good as Brick and Mangold. So I think Pitt is in for a rude awakening if they think these matchups are going to be in their favor......but this is why they play the games.
The one sad thing is, Brick can absolutely bitchslap harrison all day sunday. But all Harrison needs is one play where he beats Brick to make an impact. Then Harrison had an exceptional day, and Brick played like ass. Brick won't let that happen this today, I'm sure of that. Pittsburgh Delenda Est.
I agree with that. I am also interested to see Timmons covering Keller. Timmons is repped as good in coverage. I wish I could see the last game against the Ravens, Heap had a big day.
good points. I think Ferguson will do well against Harrison in pass-pro. The match-up to watch will be on the other side with Woodley vs. RT (Hunter??). Also, the real key to our run D this year is the DE's (Keisel & Hood). Hood is young but he is coming on strong the last few weeks in the trenches. Keisel has been stellar all season. Good luck and enjoy the game
