I didn't read all the way back, so I apologize if this was already brought up, but ED lost me when I read somewhere that he grew up a Dolphins fan.

From that point on, he became an annoying douche.

Here is what it comes down too, for me.

Never once have i not joined him and a good portion of the stadium following his lead in the chat. That a lone makes me not, not like him. Heard him speak for the first time the other day. Sounds like your typical (but not really) New Yorker. Super fan. So am i. Whatever.

I hope he gets free tickets. I hope the Jets give him free air fare, blow jobs and ponies. It doesn't affect or change my life at all. Good for this guy, he doesn't bother me and I can't see why he bothers anyone else..........

So he is a proxy for Jets fans, it could be worse. They could use some retard Jets fan, and we all know there are a few of those. Look at all the idiots they show rooting for the Raiders, Dolphins etc......lol

I respect the guy for being 110% all in. If he makes a few bucks off the schtick or whatever good. I'm not gonna hate on a fellow Jets fan for being a bit overzealous. He is better than all the darksiders put together.

Well the Eagles thing is different, they play a fight song after extra points and then they do the chant. I didn't see anyone like FE standing up and leading it.

Wow you guys are to much! No one said you have to like him. This guy gets our crowds going, otherwise everyone would be sitting on their fukin hands in that stadium now a days! Let him do his thing, it's not hurting anyone.

And for foxboro ...they were dicks! It didnt matter if you said anything or not guys were bumping you and trying to start fights after we sealed the victory! AND YOU REP YOUR TEAM AND WEAR YOUR GEAR!

I live in Western New York, and am a lifelong Buffalo Bills fan. As such, I'm fairly anti-Jets, but I hate the Patriots and Dolphins much more. Anyways, here's an outside perspective on Fireman Ed:

From what I understand, Fireman Ed has been around for a long time. I only really have been aware of him for the last ten years or so. I assume he started getting more national media attention after 9/11 because of the whole fireman thing. When he first was in the spotlight, I thought he was kinda awesome. That chant is very catchy and it seemed like a cool thing Jets fans were doing.

The more I saw him, though, the more I disliked him. At this point I have a very strong distaste for him. On TV, it often seems like his cheering doesn't always jive with the flow of the game, and it also seems like he spends much of the game with his back facing the field. I imagine his fame went to his head a bit, and he seems more about self promotion than anything else these days. That's understandable I suppose, but it's really quite off-putting. He also just kind of comes across like a douchebag in general somehow.

I remember watching that preseason game and hoping the Giants fan would hit him. I'm fine with the Patriots fans doing what they did. If he sat in my section up at the Ralph I wouldn't stand for his antics in my home stadium, either.

I don't think Fireman Ed reflects poorly on Jets fans that much, though. When I think about some belligerent drunken asshole New Yorker, I automatically assume Giants fan all the way. In my head, I imagine most Jets fans to be more like Tony Kornheiser.

I'm not really rooting for you guys this weekend, but I also hate the Steelers so I'm not rooting for them, either. Good job beating those dickhead Patriots, anyways.

    Tony Kornheiser?

    Fuck off.

It's a proven fact that most Jets fans are just like Bruce Willis.

    Except with hair.

I agree completely.... I was reading this thread hoping that someone would beat me to these points. We have the best chant in all of sports...He leads it at the stadium, I think it is a good thing.

Its not hate people have for him its jealousy. Give me a break people how can you hate someone you don't personally know. My 7 year old loves the Jets and thinks FE is cool and has been doing the chant all season long. He even takes his Jet helmet and waves in the air to get fired up. Stop being JEALOUS. If the Jets called you today and said they were giving you tickets to the game, would you turn them down. I don't think so. Who cares what he gets. Two days before the AFC Championship game and your complaining about a Jet fan. WTF is wrong with some Jet fans around here.

Hey at least it's not barrel boy or belly boy.

    Those guys sucked.

  15. A fight song that they started doing just a few years ago, yet pretend they have some long tradition of a song, like the Redskins. :eaglessuck:

Really? That song sounds like it was recorded in the 60s. I went to Shorty's, an Eagles bar by the Lincoln Tunnel for a few games this year with my girlfriend (Eagles fan) and they play the song there. It's grainy, really poor recording quality...maybe the song's been around forever but they just started doing it the stadium a few years ago.

You know where they really should have put it? Where Yonkers Raceway is. Short ride from Woodlawn. Right next to the Thruway and Cross County, near the Sprain Brook, short ride from the GWB and not too far from the Whitestone and Throgs Neck.

Oh well. Nobody listened to me.

Honestly we don't need Fireman Ed to tell us when to cheer. Tell him to go back to being a damn fireman and replace his ass with a scoreboard. The only thing he does is that Jets chant, which he didn't even invent. And we wonder why people always think the Jets have obnoxious fans...
