If a team of technology advanced aliens arrived on Earth, and challenged the Patriots to a game, with the wager being that if the aliens won the Earth would be destroyed, and if the Patriots won then all Humans would be given the secret to eternal youth and life...

Then I MIGHT root for the Patriots.

    Hell No.

No son of mine would play for the Cheatriots. If he were drafted, I'd make him refuse to sign, and get traded -- Hey, it worked for Eli, right?

If me cheering the Patriots would cure cancer and AIDS, I would still have to be convinced.

Actually, I have one young son who would cry if the Patriots chose him out of the draft as their QB.

    I would cry as well.

No. I wouldn't. I would want them to lose badly, and then have them release my son. If they dont lose badly, my rooting for them or not wouldn't change a thing. In fact, I'd disown my son if he became a franchise QB for that Pasts.

The deal would need to include sex with Megan Fox at every strike of the hour for me to even consider rooting for them. It won't happen, so it won't happen.

Would you pay for a lawyer if your son was arrested for being a terrorist?

    Or

Would you root for the Pasts if your son was their franchise QB?

I would..and I would also teach him about the black sox scandal and how cool it would be to throw games...you know..for extra money.

All kidding around aside, the answer of course would be no...he would be brought up there to work out for them and if he did well...who is the real loser.

I've sort of lived this situation this summer. My friend and neighbour is a professional rugby player here in England.

Has been playing for my team Hull yet this summer has switched across the city to the rival team Hull Kingston Rovers. The good part is gave me his training kit when he left Hull (bit tight around the waist!) but now I have a good friend playing for a team I hate. I hope he plays well this season but I still want him to lose every week!!

Conversely his dad actually has lived the scenario mentioned in this thread. His dad was a major star in the 80s, played for Great Britain and played for Hull Kingston Rovers when they were the world's best team around 1983.....only to see his son sign for Hull as a schoolboy and stay there for 9 years. He used to come and watch his son play for Hull (I sat with him on occasions and he'd never cheer) whilst also going to see Rovers, where he's head of the ex-players association.

So I guess in answer to the question, with this example in mind, is support your lad at New England - let him get sacked and intercepted and lose plenty in his developing years......then watch the Jets trade for him and reap the benefits!

    This is classic!!!

My answer is no. I'd root for my son to be successful, be one of the best QB's in the league, but his team have a shitty D, and then once his contract is up, he goes to any other team.

Better question: What would you do if your son was the QB of the Jets but sucked so bad that we lost every game strictly because of him?
