I don't love this deal, but if he gave it to Wood over Soriano, then I'd nominate Don as smartest poster on TGG.
Money isn't an issue with this team, and we needed to strengthen our pen with the state of our rotation. I think it's a good move, he'd only opt out if he a) has a shitty year/can't handle NYC to which we would say good riddance or b) Mo comes back for one more, which is great news in itself. Glad to have him aboard.
Yeah, I'm not sure why I wrote Soria. FTR, I don't have a problem with the signing. I just think it's hilarious that Cashman is always backtracking on everything he says. In this case, he wound up spending almost exactly the same as he practically swore he never would due to being too high, and gave up a pick he swore he wouldn't after not getting Lee. Cashman is on thin ice with the organization. Good. I'm completely sick of him. All he knows how to do is play with the checkbook. He has yet to sell a single player on wearing pinstripes using anything but a bunch of zeroes. He couldn't even convince Andy to be a hero and come back to save the rotation. (I'll bet money Andy's decision was in part based on the public treatment of Jeter this offseason. If so, I hope one day Pettitte says that publicly. You can't treat your most loyal employees like shit and expect them to keep performing, no matter how well you think you've already compensated them.) Again, I don't have an issue with it being Soriano over Wood (though not giving it to Wood risked not getting anyone). My issue is that Cashman opens his mouth and makes a habit of ensuring it's wide enough for his foot to fit in. That's the real critical reason I wanted Wood to come back. He proved he could handle the NY pressure cooker, and if we're being honest, that matters here. Hell, Javy proved it just last year. ------------- Anyway, related to the Soriano subject, I made a prediction yesterday as a result of the signing. I think Cashman is the guy behind the "Joba had his chance and the ship has sailed" attitude regarding the rotation. I think Joba now gets a shot to rejoin the rotation in Spring Training. No matter how you feel about him as a starter, you have to admit he probably can't be a worse fifth starter than Sergio Mitre. I'm not happy about it, but I'll take CC, Hughes, AJ, Joba, Nova over CC, Hughes, AJ, Nova, Mitre. Who knows, maybe this new pitching coach can even get Joba and AJ on track and bring out Nova's talent. (I can hope...)
Ill take that bet too. Andy has been retiring for 3 years already. How anyone can even attempt to blame Cashman or the Yankees for his retiring for real this year is just absurd. For fucks sake, Andy left the Yankees the first time cuz he didnt like how he was treated but he came back! So now hes retiring cuz Jeter's feelings were hurt? Come on
Playing for the Yankees is a proposition that sells itself in the sense that it's something you either want to do or don't want to do. It's not Cashman's fault we didn't get Lee, if anything I'd blame it on Hank for that asinine 'it'd behoove Lee to play for the Yankees' comment he made but it really wasn't anybody's fault. He got a call from a place where he and his family were comfortable for a similar sum of money annually and that that was that
Hilarious, and spot on. Some people will do anything to try to cram the square peg of reality through the round hole of their desired worldview. What happens if Pettitte decides to come back? Would that mean he's found the strength in Jesus to forgive Cashman?
Well that bodes poorly for the future. The Yankees have been great since Cashman was given control over the roster...why mess with a good thing?
Perfect!!! With this Cashman may not even make it to spring training. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=6037544
So I heard that the Yanks did make an offer to Povano for a 1 year deal. I must have been upset about this occurrence that my body shut down and I fell asleep for a few hours and am only posting this now. Like the Hulk, my inner Don is screaming at the front office for even thinking about it I am glad that you have gotten to a point of hatred that you post articles without reading them, going by the title alone. Halfway through the article it it's own 2 lined paragraph Levine says "Cashmen is the best GM in the game." IE there are no sentences around it... If you held the down arrow key all the way to the bottom of the article, you could easily locate and read said statement before it reached the top of the screen It's OK Don, this just ads to the cartoon character aura you have created for yourself.
I'm pretty worried. I think the Yanks are going to try this whole "let's see if we can get 5 1/3" out of Mitre and Nova thing and hope they are in the mix when teams become sellers.
Fuck Carl Povano. Absolutely no chance in hell I ever wanna see that piece of fucking shit wear a Yankee uniform ever again. The Yankees don't have a choice but to wait for somebody to become a seller, even if Andy comes back. The Yankees will be fine. CC will be a boss, Phil will be better and AJ really can't go anywhere but up after last year. Not ideal but hopefully the Red Sox don't come roaring out of the gate.
Thats exactly what theyre gonna do. What else can tehy possibly do? With TB assumingly taking a big step backwards this year, the Yankees can certainly keep their wildcard hopes a live with the current roster deep enough into the season to see who becomes available.
Our pitching situation is fucked, so we may as well put Joba back into the rotation. I'd rather have him than bringing Pavano back.
Of course I read it and if you think that doesn't bode trouble for him in the Yankee organization then you obviously didn't. I read this one too. What you get from your lover who didn't want a star closer in the setup role is a broken down ex star from Atlanta who hasn't been relevant for 3 years. For that he is willing to pay 2 million and I'm surprised he wouldn't pay him even more. That's more his style. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=6042276
