If it comes down to drafting a DE in the 1st Round, Who would be the better target Cameron Heyward, Stephen Paea or Allen Bailey ?
Out of those it's Heyward no doubt... why is Paea in the mix? If anything in a 3-4 he'd be a NT but he really is a 4-3 DT...
Realistic options for us if we go 3-4 end in the first round: 1. Wisconsin's JJ Watt 2. Cals' Cameron Jordan 3. Ohio State's Cameron Heyward 4. Iowa's Adrian Clayborn 5. Arizona State's Lawrence Guy Every Jets' fan needs to hope for Jeremy Beal or Jabaal Sheard early. There will be some pretty good 3-4 DE options around in the third round. The pass rushers will be gone by then. 3-4 end is not as flashy position. In my opinion, if you can't get a top tier prospect like a Nick Fairley or a Marcel Dareus, then just wait it out. We really just need to get some big bodied linemen that can do their jobs consistently. Mississippi State's Pernell McPhee, Clemson's Jarvis Jenkins, Florida's Lawrence Marsh, Nebraska's Jared Crick, and UNC's Marvin Austin are some guys that could be around in the third.
I agree 100%. Before we knew we would lose our second round pick (instead of the third) i was totally on board with taking a DE in the first, whether it be Heyward, Watt, or Jordan because I personally see those 3 as being better values ATM than the probable linebackers that would be available to us at our pick. Now that we no longer have that 2nd rounder, our 1st rounder IMO absolutely has to be focused on a linebacker. I am very much a proponent of taking value, and BPA (to an extent of course) in the first 3 rounds of the draft, but in this case the values are similar enough between the likes of Houston, Beal, Smith, or Ayers (unlikely to be there) to the DE's and the need IMO is higher as well.
I usually respect your opinion, but I am definitely going to call you out on this shit. I started a thread a month ago saying that it was dumb to draft a 3-4 end in the 1st round because we can get talent there at a later pick and you said: Usually I will let it slide but you consistently bashed my opinion and even made fun of a previous post of mine in the Bullshit forum. EAT CROW http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=62579
What are you trying to call me out about? Everything I said in your completely awesome thread makes perfect sense. I've never respected your opinion and that won't change. Defensive End is one of our biggest needs. Start with who? Mike DeVito? Shaun Ellis had a great game last night, but he's close to being done. Trevor Pryce is done. There's barely any depth at the position. You're banking on a practice squad player and player coming off a serious injury. The odds are against them. If a great prospect is available, then we should pull the trigger. That's unlikely considering we're one win away from playing in the Super Bowl. I said we'd be a great spot to draft a potentially elite 34 defensive end because 2011 is loaded at the position. I'm all for drafting the best available player. More than likely Jeremy Beal will be more valued than a 34 end like Lawrence Guy or Marvin Austin. If someone like JJ Watt falls to us, that'd be a different story. You're opinion made absolutely no sense. You claimed we have plenty of talent on the roster at 34 end and you named a rotational guy, a nose tackle, a guy on IR, and a practice squad player. That thread was flamingly homosexual. You described one of your friends as "extremely muscular and lightning fast" - anyone would make fun of that. EAT SHIT
If a guy like Marvin Austin could be around in the 3rd round, there's no reason to use our only pick in the first two rounds on a 5-tech. I want Beal or any other pass rusher that can produce right away.
Who says Beal can produce consistently right away? In all the mocks I'm seeing Beal is never higher than mid-2nd... although a lot can change from here to the draft.
