Belichick even acknowledges this in one of hte books I have read. But I wouldn't call it luck pure and simple. They had sent Dick Rehbein to scout Brady and Tim Rattay (I believe). Rehbein came back and said that he really like Brady. Both Brady and Rattay rated very similar on their boards.
Belichick didn't need Abe & Ellis to build top rated defenses. We likely would have still drafted Ellis though. We absolutely could have won a SB w/ Belichick as the HC. Our O would have been better in 2000 because we would have still had Weis as the OC and maintained continuity.
Not a chance. First off he has never won w/o Brady, second he would have had an old vinny coming off an achilles injury. Our O wasn't great in 1999, obviously injuries played a major role but when we had a great O in '98 the great Charlie Weis was stripped of playcalling duties. I think we could have amde some postseasons, we weren't winning SBs w/ BB unless he still picked up Brady.
Our offense wasn't great in 1999 because we had Rick Mirer for most of the season. Weis was stripped of play calling duties in 1999 not 1998 and it was because he didn't run ball as much as Parcells wanted him to. Belichick absolutely could have won the SB w/ Vinny as our QB. Vinny's greatest season in his career was in 1998 w/ Weis. The defense would have been top rated. We wouldn't have lost key contributors like Bryan Cox and Otis Smith as examples. Belichick won SB XXXVI because of the defense and running game and would have done so in NY as well.
It was 1998 when he was stripped of playcalling duties not 1999 and obviously we had QB issues thoughe had Lucas at QB most of the season not Mirer. Vinny 2000 & 2001 was not Vinny 1998. How would our D have been top rated in 2000 when it wasn't in 1999? BP signed some guys to big deals, guys that we had to get rid of for cap purposes. BB won SB XXXVI b/c of the QB. The D was great most of the playoffs but melted in the boggest spot and they don't even make the playoffs if Brady doesn't become the starter.
Maybe it was '99 he was stripped, I have to double check that but either way Vinny 2000 was not Vinny 1998. He oculdn't move after the achilles injury. I think our O would have been better w/ Weis and w/ Key being back but we would have only had one 1st rd pick and not 4 and 2 of those top picks really helped our D. Plus BP's poor $$ decisions cist us players and we would not have been able to bring all our defensive players back especially assuming we brought Key back w/ a new contract.
This article states he took over in 1999 BUT: http://www.nytimes.com/1999/10/08/s...ling-plays-to-balance-jets-attack.html?src=pm I knew he did it in '98.
It was 1999 not 1998. I've told you SEVERAL times now http://www.nytimes.com/1999/10/08/s...-is-calling-plays-to-balance-jets-attack.html Vinny 2000 and 2001 was not the same as Vinny 1998 because he did NOT have Charlie Weis. We had many injuries in 1999 that affected the team. BB won SB XXXVI BECAUSE OF THE DEFENSE. The DEFENSE shut down Marshall Faulk. THE DEFENSE Shut down Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce. The DEFENSE scored 7 points on their own and the DEFENSE led the Pats to 10 more off of turnovers. The Pats don't make it to the SB w/o their defense. Their defense held their opponents to 17 points or less in 10 games during the regular season and in all 3 post season games. Without Brady the Pats still won the AFC Championship Game.
http://www.nytimes.com/1999/10/08/s...ling-plays-to-balance-jets-attack.html?src=pm He wasn't the same b/c he was pushing 40 and coming off an achilles injury which cost him an entire season. Dan henning is the one credited w/ helping Vinny achieve what he did in 1998 NOT Charlie Weis and henning was still there in 2000. BB isn't even in the playoffs if Brady is not his starting QB. Explain to me how a team wins a SB w/o first getting to the playoffs? It is different but he took over different GAMES which is different than "at times".
There's a difference between taking control of play calling at times during a game and giving it back and taking play calling away for good. You were referring to the latter which DID NOT happen until 1999. Charlie Weis is absolutely partly credited for Vinny in 1998 as is Parcells and Henning. The difference is w/o Weis (and Parcells) but with Henning Vinny reverted back to his old self. Vinny did not show any ill effect from the injury or his age until 2002. The Pats don't make it to the playoffs w/o their outstanding Defense either and the DEFINITELY do NOT win the SB w/o their DEFENSE who carried them all game long.
What if we would of kept Santana Moss, What if we would have kept Abraham, Farrior and Coles the first time before signing him back 50 times ? What about if we actually drafted Sapp? What ifs, I fucking love em.
Henning got most of the credit for helping Vinny. Vinny was a very different QB in 2000 than he was in 1998, Vinny could not move in 2000. The achilles injury robbed him of his mobility. The D carried them until they became the first defense in the history of the SB to blow a 14 pt 4th qtr lead. It wasn't a one man team BUt the man MOST responsible for the dynasty was #12.
Very quickly- No Henning was not given most of the Credit for helping Vinny. Vinny never had mobility. The Pats D was the reason they won SB XXXVI Brady has now gone ANOTHER season w/o bringing a Championship to NE since Weis left. Quite the coincidence
Yes henning was given most of the credit for Vinny Vinny was very mobile, not in a Michael Vick sort of way but when he needed to he could move to create time or run w/ the ball So the pats D set up that GW FG? If that game gets to OT and SL gets the ball the Rams win their 2nd SB in 3 year. What has Weis done w/o Brady exactly? I'll let Bart Scott end this: :rofl: http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/this-just-in/2171831/scott-belichick-mo-lewis-hit-being-fired#
No Henning was not given most of the credit for Vinny Vinny was never "very mobile". His mobility was never his game The Pats D set up or scored themselves 17 points Brady has not won a Championship since Weis left. Brady w/ Weis in the postseason = 9 - 0 3 SB Titles Brady w/o Weis in the postseason = 5 - 5 ZERO SB Titles
