Just a message, from a Jets fan in Pittsburgh, to all Steeler fans that come to TGG. I don't give a rats a** about your six Super Bowl championships. This is a new season. If you want to talk football this season, fine. If you assert your team's dominance because you've won in the past, it doesn't matter a lick this season. Go somewhere else to talk about past glory. Stick to this season. Nuff said.
^^^agree..they should go and read the Pats posts about how good they were at one time. Jet will win next Sunday!
Ive already seen Steelers fans making comments how this game is going to be so easy. Are these fans really as stupid as the Patriots fans? I remember last time, they weren't talking at all and were quite respectful. What they are saying now is disgusting.
While 6 titles might be in the past....the core of this team HAS won two titles and knows how to win. This team overcame a lot of drama and a porous offensive line to win a gritty AFC North. You guys are confident you will win. I am fully confident our Defensive coordinator will confuse your young quarterback and force him into making a mistake or two. Going to be a great game.
Every Steelers fan in the Burgh was rooting for the Jets. I had countless Steeler fans patting me on the back and saying "Good Luck." I appreciate the sentiment, but I know where it comes from. Winning in Foxboro is a lot harder than winning in Heinz Field. Even if it is the playoffs. Just keep the past out of it. Terry Bradshaw isn't playing in this game. The Jets have plenty of playoff experience and so do the current Steelers. That will make a difference, but past glory won't mean anything. It will be a great game. I will be a Heinz Field with an entourage of Jets fans leading the charge. Pittsburgh delenda est.
It's basically a pick em game but neither team should downplay the other. These are probably the two best teams in the league, 2 top 5 defenses, 2 qb's that just win games. The Pats were front runners, that team didn't know how to win in tough games. The Jets and Steelers can go 12 rounds and win the game in round 12.
don't know how anyone thinks the jets are an easy W. They're loaded. They're gritty. With the exception of one game this year they've been a tough out or they've found a way. I think we're going to the Super Bowl... Peyton was the biggest domino to fall IMHO.
If we win again, can we get another one of those super awesome non-congratulatory, congratulatory threads?
Will be a different game this time. Troy was out...Heath Miller was out, James Harrison had been sick the entire week, and our starting corner Bryant McFadden was injured. All of those players are healthy this week..Troy should be 100% by Sunday. Steelers without Troy are a different team...It will be close regardless..I will need a few drinks.
I can't stand the goddamn steelers, one of my most hated teams in the league, and they are going to be much better this time around. This will be one hell of a game, but theres no reason to believe the Jets won't win. As sufferingjetsfan said, its gonna be another one that takes a few years off my life, gotta love it. Honestly, how lucky are we as Jets fans these days? Two AFC championship appearances in a row. Who could've dreamed of such a thing for the Jets?
Shows you what hiring a good coach can do. Unlike the Browns who hire has-beens and never-was coaches.
We have to give thanks though to the Brown and Eric Mangini, The jets got Sanchez and Edwards because of Mangini and the Browns Thank you Cleavland Browns!
I actually think some Jet fans are underrating the Steelers. I felt during the regular season that they were the best team in football (as did a lot of people, if you remember, before the Pats went on their streak), and they have a team built to win in the playoffs. They're tough everywhere--Big Ben at QB, great run game with Mendenhall, good complimentary receiving corps with Ward, Wallace, Miller, and others, and a very good D. This is going to be a very tough, smashmouth game and the D is really going to have to be every bit as good as it was today because it will be tough to score. The way the Jets have been playing, however, they can beat anyone and I definitely understand the confidence.
I agree with this post--if the Steelers beat the Jets, they will definitely be favorites to win the Super Bowl. We played a great game against Pittsburgh the first time around but we were lucky to escape with a win at the end of the day. The AFCCG will be a dogfight, no doubt about it. And, for what it's worth, I do care about the Steelers' 6 Super Bowl titles. They're emblematic of the fact that Pittsburgh's been the most successful franchise in football history. The fact that 2 of those titles have come in the last decade shows that this current group of Steelers players knows how to get it done when it counts. I'm not saying that I'm afraid of Pittsburgh or anything, but history matters. The Steelers are the kind of franchise that I hope the Jets can become.
True, but I don't think you can really compare the modern era to what happened before the merger. In any case, my point is that the Steelers are a model franchise. Their past success may have no bearing on what happens on Sunday evening, but it's foolish to just ignore all that history--long term, the Jets should be trying to emulate the stability and success that the Steelers have enjoyed.
I was just chiming in before the Steeler haters point it out. The Rooney family just does things differently from many other franchises. You guys went out and signed a lot of big name free agents and it's paid off with two straight AFC Championship game appearances. But what happens when all those players want paid at the same time. You guys might lose a lot of those players. At least this time around you seem to have a strong head coach who can teach young players how to play the game.
