Cam Newton. A Mike Vick clone but a better passer and without the character issues

The only game I saw him play live was the BCS championship but I've seen 20-30 minutes of YouTube QB breakdown video of him too. To b clear: the lack of elusiveness I meant at the NFL level. Patrick Peterson or not, I don't think Cam will be making linebackers and DBs miss at the next level consistently.

Not saying that he won't be good scrambling or on draws/options, but I don't think he'll excel.

IMO, Newton would have been perfect on the wildcat-Miami team of 2008/2009.

I've seen him play in person. He's a special player. I watched him play eleven times. I went to the SEC Championship game and as a passer, he put on a show.

You're not giving this kid enough credit at all.

Calling him a Wildcat quarterback is absurd. This is a player that completed 66 percent of his passes and threw 30 TDs with only 7 INTs ...as a one year starter. His ceiling is ridiculously high.

The problem is you're watching highlight/lowlight tapes. They only show the good and the bad - nothing in between.

When a quarterback runs for over 1400 yards and 20 TDs in the SEC, he'll be threat as a runner in the NFL.

Also, just want to add (can't edit on phone for some reason)

Cam looks like a freight train. He may be fast but it takes him a while to get up to speed. When I used elusive I meant it more in an agility/acceleration sense. He is very elusive in brushing off tackles but that style of open field running will sooner or later result in an injury in the Pros.

Then again, at his size he may be able to take the punishment but if he's your franchise qb.. Probably not a good idea having him taking on linebackers in the open field.

I'll take your word for it. I'm just going by the little I saw. He's a special player no doubt. My problem is it's tough seeing him fit the mold of an NFL style QB.

Would it be fair to consider him the black version of a Tim tebow and Ben Roethlisberger love child?

Did you not watch that video I just posted?

Newton switches to another gear when he sees Peterson coming towards him.

He's a better passer than Tim Tebow and he's a better athlete than Ben Roethlisberger.

I like the Roethlisberger comparison. I feel like the only reason he's compared to Tebow is because he's a dual threat.

Yea I saw that at the end too. If you look closely though Peterson got fooled and took a bad angle at newton right as he starts to accelerate. You can see him adjust at the last second but at that point it too late.

He definitely has a second gear but going back to what I was saying earlier, It's more of a perpetual speed than explosive acceleration.

Mr. E please correct me if I am wrong, but I feel that Newton suffers from Brad Smith syndrome...

He is so big and fluid, that he just doesn't appear to be that fast or elusive, right up to the moment he blows by you on the way to the endzone.

Every time I watch either guy run, they don't some all that fast and then suddenly they simply pull away from the defense as they race to the endzone. Its amazing how deceptive their speed really is.

I see him as a more mobile Freeman. Big frame, big arm(positive&negative), can handle pressure,etc...

I think his best asset is being "rubber", which is key to being a QB. Down by double digits in a game? So what, we'll win. Name getting dragged through the mud? Doesn't matter, just looking forward to playing in the game Saturday...

They are long striders. They don't look like they're moving fast, but they're moving.

Good point, T Pryor looks slow but makes plays with his long legs.

Cam is much stronger than Pryor, who trys to avoid contact.

I can't believe someone voted for Jake Locker.

Eric Dickerson got a lot of heat from coaches during practice for the same reason, thought he wasn't giving his full effort...

Everyone here knows my love for Locker so I would say he, Mallett if raised correctly and not put into the fire right away and Cam Newton I think can be Vince Young of last year esque.

Have heard alot of negatives on Gabbert's work ethic so I think he might get exposed in the Combine...enough to maybe shoot him out of round 1.

He really isn't a terrible QB enough to not get voted here...he just needs alot of polishing and patience. He got almost no help until the very end of his senor season when Polk came and played like a mad man the last 3-4 games. Way too many drops, inconsistent O-Line play.

Franchise quarterbacks make everyone around them better. Locker couldn't do that.

Locker was a four year starter in a pro-style offense. He never *improved.

I knocked Josh Freeman for the same reason and he's had success. I still doubt that Freeman will be a "winner" in this league. Freeman had tons of experience in a pro-style offense and I believe it's sped up his growth. If he has success again next year against a much tougher schedule, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong about him.

One thing's for certain: he's the most likely to be the name of a character in a John Hughes movie.
