Yeah, he totally should have signed... ...uh, Kevin Millwood? Carl Pavano? Jeremy Bonderman? Face it, after Lee, there is/was not much out there. And it's not like the Yanks didn't go after Lee hard. I suppose the important thing, though, is that Yankee fans have something to bitch about.
I know Pavano had a good year, but anyone who thinks that the Yanks should even blow air by this guy should be shot. Not saying you are, cus you're not. But I am sure there are a few out there who are wondering why we haven't offered him something. He will sign the contract, and somehow fuck up his ass bone and miss the entire year.
Even with the rotation Alio listed above, the Yankees can still be competitive. They may need to wait until teams are out of it and become "sellers" to get starting help, but the lineup has the potential to be better. Remember last season, A-Rod started slow, Teix started slow, Posada sucked... We all know Teix traditionally starts slow, but maybe if A-Rod starts strong he can help Teix... IDK just thinking and typing...
Agreed, it's not as bad as it looks and it's almost a guarantee we pick up a solid started near the deadline if we are competitors next season. And we still have an all start line up. The only thing I don't see changing is Posada sucking, the guys done IMO.
With less time squatting, Posada should be able to stay more healthy. The time off with injury is what broke up his hitting rhythm.
Man, I've been out of the Yankee loop for quite some time because of the Jets. Has anything significant happened over the past few weeks?
I do not anticipate the Yankees getting off to a strong start. I still think they'll win the AL East but I think April and May will be a couple of rough months. The Rays are taking a step back and I think the Red Sox moves are lateral
3/$35M, lose a first round pick, and he can opt out after the first or second year. What a terrible deal.
12+ and a first rounder.... Not impressed but I suppose it gives an opportunity for Joba to start....
This is the only problem I have with the deal. If you're going to give up a first, at least get more then possibly a one year commitment. For those that are complaining about the money, AYFKM?! They're going to charge 9 dollars a beer no matter what, I'm glad at least now they've essentially told opponents that if you aren't winning by the time you come up to bat in the 8th, you lose. It isn't YOUR money. So who gives a shit.
He also said we weren't giving up the first rounder for anything.... just sayin his word is worth the paper its printed on...
I don't personally care, but in the past the team (Hal) has been very stubborn with their pretend "budget". They drastically overpay for a big free agent, and then pinch pennies over roleplayers, the draft, international free agency.
Understandable, but according to Heyman even with this signing Cashman still is 20 million under the budget.
Buster Olney was reporting last night that the Soria deal was an object of internal strife. It makes sense, considering Cashman just said a few days ago that he wouldn't expend a draft pick to get anyone after not getting Lee. What makes me laugh is that he steadfastly refused to give Wood a similar deal for the same position. Now Soria is a nice addition, and I'm sure he'll be at least as successful as Wood was, but the backtracking is ridiculous.
I think you mean Soriano. Royals told the Yankees Joakim Soria is off limits. The problem with Wood is, A. He's older. B. He wasn't going to be the heir apparent to Mo. This contract by the third year clearly pays Soriano to be the closer C. He loved Chicago, never wanted to leave and was promised a job by Cubs ownership when he retired.
