I think Ducasse has the talent and ability to be our RT of the future...shame that future isn't now. This isn't good, not good at all. But its just another obstacle we'll have to overcome if we want wipe that smirk off those Pats' faces.
Like i said...it's not the ideal situation. But who's the better run blocker...Ducasse or Hunter? Face it, if we have to rely on Sanchez's arm on Sunday....i don't like our chances (not because he doesn't have the skill, but because his throwing shoulder isn't 100%). The offense needs to establish an effective run game...that's top priority.
i actually like Hunter better right now than woody as a run blocker.woody's legs where failing him. well he has played his last as a Jet
Ducasse may play "TE", tho. Shame for Woody, he's been a rock. Hopefully the Black Russian is ready by next year.
This is a loss but it isnt huge. He got us through the Colts. If we were playing the Colts this week I would be worried but im sure Wayne Hunter will do a good job against the Patriots.
Horrible news. At least they have a couple days to prepare Hunter or Ducasse to step up. If Woody went down on the first snap this would have been even worse.
I don't think Ducasse is ready at all to be relied upon in a meaningful way, unfortunately. I think we are more likely to see Rob Turner or Hartstock as an extra blocker on that side more often than we usually do.
Vlad is definitely the better run blocker, if we can't get anything going in that department~~~ it may be worth a try. I don't know why people are so fast to write him off as a fail if he does get in.
The kid has the size and potential to be a road grater in this league.....I'm not saying he should be starting...but at this point in the season....if called upon, he should be able to deliver. We're not in the preseason anymore. That being said, I hope Hunter can help in the run game and stay healthy. Ducasse's time will come....
that's basically what I was driving at. Callahan is a great coach....we've seen considerable improvement from Ducasse in the Bills game. This kid should be ready if called upon. I don't expect him to be Steve Hutchinson out of the gate....but he should be serviceable by now.
We started re-establishing the ground game when Hunter was starting. LT & Green ran it 23 tims for 89 yds, 3.9 YPC. Doesn't sound great but against Pitt it was great as they allowed opposing RBs to run for just 3.0 YPC. We can still do everything we need to do w/ Wayne Hunter in there, obviously we'd prefer Woody but Hunter showed he can play when Woody was out. I'd feel alot less comfortable if he hadn't had the chance to play last month.
I'm a firm believer that Ducasse is going to be a good player for the Jets.. he has the size and all the tools. Throwing him into a road playoff game against the Patriots is a recipe to get Sanchez killed though. Hunter has experience and did a fairly good job when filling in earlier this year, so we have to just pray he can handle it this week.. Now if they throw Ducasse in there for a few plays as an extra blocker on run plays, that's fine by me. But I think we're going to be seeing a lot of Rob Turner ahead of Ducasse in that role. Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing both in there from time to time though and try to just overpower the Pats and run it.
That game was basically an exhibition game against a completely dead team that wasn't good when they tried. I wouldn't read too much into the Bills game, just loook at McKnight. he looked good and a week later he was inactive. Is Ducasse ready to be an extra blocker on short yardage? I don't know, I'm not sure the staff trusts him yet. We'll see.
That's all well and good but why are people so quick to say we're screwed if he has to play? Maybe he would do well?
