The Pats have a decent run game, unlike the Colts. If you play with only 5 in the box we'll keep running till you can stop it and then you create a bigger problem for yourselves, opening up the play action.
This is pretty much spot on. Belichick watched Rex load up on corners, watched Revis take away every team's best receiver, watched the Colts in the AFC Championship, and realized the way to attack the Jets is in numbers. They have 4 primary targets instead of the two they've had in seasons past. They've found a way to make Revis less of a factor. They've found a way to counter the unbalanced numbers we typically throw in blitzing situations. It's a great gameplan against the Jets and why we struggled. Rex has to do something we've struggled to do all season and get pressure with fewer rushers. That means new looks, but we can't use the approach that was successful in our first matchup because the Pats passing game has developed and evolved. We'll need Revis and Cro to both play single coverage, and likely will have to single up a S/NB on one TE and double the other with a LB. That leaves one LB to shadow the RB and 5 rushers. In that situation, we have to play our best game in coverage this season. Hell of a tough task.
Last game they wanted to keep him on Welker, but the Pats were moving and motioning him all over the field. May make more sense to have him on Branch, at least they know where he'll be lined up.
I think he should be on Welker and just stay with him, Welker and Woodhead are the "shiftyist" recivers and we all know what Cro looks like on those type of guys. Cro needs to be on Branch I'd say
The Pats are basically the Colts with worse personnel. You play them the same way. Have Revis take out Branch. Cro gets Tate. Smith gets Gronk. And you cover the rest of the guys through zone coverage. If the Pats want to run, let them. The Pats will not kill us with their running game, and might give us 3rd and 8 opportunities against Brady. If the Jets tackle and play good coverage, they will win. If they dont, then they will need to score. It's that simple.
Im watching the packers pats game the packers stuck Woodson on the TE's cro is 6'2 it might be a better fit.
If you look at the two games the Patriots lost here are the keys: Run for 130+ yards Hold the Patsies under 60 yards rushing Shut down the Patriots receivers Keep Brady under 55% completion rate Both Patriots losses had the TEs leading all passers. The TEs will get their yards, the key is shutting down the rushing attack and the WRs.
Zone coverage is the worst way to play the Pats. Man to man and getting pressure is the only way to beat Brady and this offense when they are playing at the top of their game.
You don't defend Rob Gonkowski, you just pray to survive...oh wait, wrong thread. Fuck Gronkowski. In fact, fuck anyone named Gronkowski. New England delenda est.
We have a coin's flip chance of winning the game. 50/50. Since we cant stop their spread offense, and they can't stop our ground and pound, we will trade TD's until the final whistle. 28-28. Then onto the coin toss in OT.
Keep their asses on the bench, along with their QB, by running the football and chewing time off the clock I honestly don't think we can line up and match-up with them defensively. Yeah I know, "we shut them down the second half of the first game. Blah blah...". This is not the same offense Our offense will be our best D vs this team.
Let the Patriots run the ball, their running game isn't that great but their passing game will tear you apart. Handle them like Manning, let him hand the ball off all day long, if he does Jets win.
Do they? Genuine question. I'm not convinced that Green-Ellis is any better than Addai, in fact I'm bloody sure he's not. I'd say that the Bastards' O-line is probably a little better than Indy's, but not to the extent that they're good enough to push our defence around enough to create holes. The X-factor in their run game is Woodhead, and I don't believe that we can't plan for him. If we can do to the Bastards' passing game what we did to Indy's, I believe we'll win. I do think that it's going to be a much bigger challenge though, and we absolutely have to take our chances on O much better than we did in the first half yesterday.
In case you haven't noticed, the Indy O line is horseshit, and the Patriots line is one of the best in the league. If you play nickel on 2nd down all game like you did the Colts they will absolutely be able to pound the ball down your throats. People here are delusional if they think the Pats' offensive personnel is weaker then the Colts'. Without Clark and Collie they didn't have the weapons to attack the weakness of the Jets' pass D, which is the middle of the field. With Gronk, Hernandez, and Welker the Patriots do. You also have that nasty fact that Cromartie can't cover either Branch or Welker.
The Patriots offensive line is definitely better then the Colts Oline. More then a little. Another area where the Colts had a lot of injuries. Mankins coming back really helped. They were decent before but now they are above average. They are also good in keeping Brady upright particularly with the Tight Ends helping. I don't know if Green-Ellis is better then Addai but he's fine under their system. And yes, Woodhead provides some nice matchup issues. I don't know if the Patriots running game is good enough head to head against the Jets run defense but as a counter-balance against the Jets D loaded against the pass? I think they could do damage in those scenarios.
The Patriots should sign all three of the Gronkowski brothers to confuse the opponent. (Actually that would be cool).
