Here is the official 2010 NFC Wildcard: New Orleans Saints vs. Seattle Seahawks game thread. The Defending Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints will take on the 7-9 NFC West Division winning Seattle Seahawks.
I really don't care which team wins, but I think it would be great if the Seahawks upset the Saints. The talking heads at ESPN have been moaning about how a 7-9 team shouldn't be in the playoffs. It would be funny if the Seahawks knocked off the Saints.
I agree, it would be hilarious, but this one will get ugly in a hurry. If the spread were 20, I still might bet on the Saints.
You have to admit, it is pretty sad that a 7-9 team is not only in the playoffs, but gets a home game. While two other 10-6 teams sit home.
If the Wild Card round participants were seeded by record (and tie-breaker advantage), the matchups would have been- Seahawks at Saints Eagles at Packers Colts at Jets Chiefs at Ravens I am in favor of the league changing the seeding system. The byes would go to the top two teams in each conference so long as those teams were not in the same division. You have to win your division to get a bye. After that, seeding would be done by record.
The 12-4 Colts in 2008 lost to the 8-8 Chargers in San Diego...a game that should have been played in Indy. I'm all for re-seeding
As long as there are unbalanced schedule (as there should be) there will never be a perfect way to decide home field - after all, a good team in a weak division would be more likely to get a home game than a very good team in a tough division based on record. I think everyone other than people in Seattle think that a team with a record under .500 hosting a playoff game is absurd. Beyond that is more controversial, but I would also support Cakes' proposal, since it has a better chance of rewarding the right teams. Seattle and Kansas City are often said to have the biggest home crowd advantages in the NFL - it will be interesting to see if that reflects itself at all in the games this weekend. If Seattle actually stays in this game you have to think it's because of the fans disrupting the New Orleans offense.
I just got through telling someone they reseed based on a Better record UNLESS the teams went head to head then the winner gets the HFA. IOW, the SAINTS beat them in the regular season so that would trump the HFA for the SEAHAWKS. If the SEAHAWKS would have won then they would have gotten it because of the tiebreaker and winning their conference.
