"Goodbye Rex, you can now have ice cream in heaven! I'll see you again tonight when I go to bed in my head movies. But this head movie makes my eyes rain...."
Our best chance to win on Saturday is with Peyton on the sidelines, we must convincingly run the ball, thus winning the time of possession.
No better yet, let's have Mark throw the ball 42 fucking times and only give SG the ball in Q3 and never twice in a row. Fuck that shit. I'm not saying run the ball every down. I'm saying run SG more than once a series, start him in the game earlier, use him a few times in a row. How about instead of a meal of LT with a side of the bowling ball, we switch it around. It's almost like Schotty brought LT over and forgot what SG did for us in the postseason before he was injured in the Colts game. Slow the game down by running the ball more. WTF?
The Colts have been playing the run and shut down MJD, Chris Johnson and McFadden. Tey can, and will stop the run if we don't have a balanced offense and throw on first down a few times. The Colts defensive backfield is in shambles from injuries. We need to keep their LB's from over loading up front against the run and keep their safeties back. Once we back them off, then run it down their throats. Either Sanchez can beat one of the worst defensive backfields in the league, or he can't throw against any team. You can go 3 and out running the ball as easilly as calling anything else if they load the box, and they WILL be loading the box. We need first downs. To get them we will have to pass the ball. Better to throw in first down once in a while rather than 3rd and 6.
There is a difference from keeping a defense off balance and running trick plays. If schotty calls a predictable game we will lose. The colts have been stopping the run pretty damn well lately and my guess is they will sell out against us to stop the run. If we decide to run on most first downs and second downs to keep us in "manageable" 3rd down situations we will have a short day on offense. I have no problem with the statement made in the op by schotty
I'm not disagreeing with you. I am saying however that we need to eat clock and keep Manning off the field. We need to use SG more. We need to stick with the run when it's working and not abandon it for the pass which we have done countless times this year. What are the stats with Sanchez throwing the ball 30+ times versus less than 30?
When Sanchez was on ESPN with Kay he said something like "we're not going to be able to line up and run on them despite the fact they are the #29 defense" which made me think exactly the same thing about the game plan.
The jets have not been able to line it up and run on anyone since week 4 so I'm glad they realize this.
And how often do we pass on first down? In the first Q, I'd like to see at least a 50-50 split. That should be enough to back the Colts off the line. That's when both running and play action work best. As the game proceeds, more running, less passing. I want to see 30 rushes at least, but more passing early, which is what it seems Sanchez is hinting at. I sure hope so. Rex likes to run early and trust his D to stop the other team. Doing that against the Colts can mean a 14 point deficit faster than you can tie a pigtail in Tom Brady's hair. I don't think that is going to work against the Colts.
he should be fired at the end of this yr regardless of the outcome hes a horrendous coordinator and always has been
Here's the key in my opinion: Have Sanchez throw on first down. The Jets cannot run on first down 75% of the time like they have been doing all year. Put Sanchez in a position to succeed rather than forcing him to make plays repeatedly on 3rd and long. Give SG the majority of the carries and make him the short yardage and goal line back. LT looks a step slower and goes down easier than he did in September. Run on 3rd and short. To hell with this empty backfield shotgun on third and short. Why should the Jets themselves take away the threat of a run on 3rd down. If we are a power team, 3rd and short should be a running down most of the time.
The Colts are going to want to see if Sanchez is hurt or not....they'll be stuffing the run and looking early to see if he can throw the ball. They know he can throw -- he played wll in the AFC CG -- but they won't let the Jets run up and down the turf unless Mark shows he can throw the ball with zip. Look for 8 and 9 guys in the box early. They don't want him to get in a rhytym early.
This is a fake out. Shotty will call his most conservative, predictable gameplan ever! More than the Green Bay game, and the RAVENS game! FUK! I kid
