Lewis returning to Cincy next year. 60-67 in 8 years, 2 winning seasons and zero playoff wins. How has he not been fired yet, especially with the short leashes on head coaches these days.
I thought his goose was cooked after this season for sure. Putting up with 85 for all these years I do not know how that man does it.
It's because he has 2 winning seasons.....that he still has a job. winning has been non existent to cinci for the past 20+ years. anyways, marvin lewis doesn't make or have much influence in the personnel decisions and the Brown family has been notorious for being some of the cheapest owners in the league.
He was probably against getting TO from day 1 and once they forced it on him and they realized it ruined the Bengals season they couldn't really point the finger
Because IF the NFL locks out, and the negotiations run through the pre-season, the new coach would be unable to have any contact with his players. So they wouldn't be able to run a new system they would have to run Lewis' system. So that's why you see all of these borderline coaches get 1 year extensions.
He used reverse psychology on the GM. They were thinking of dumping him, then he said he still needed to decide if he wanted to come back... so the GM says, hey nobody quits on me!!!! I'll teach that bastard a lesson and give him an extension!
He has 2 Division championships. Prior to Lewis getting there Cincinnati hadn't won a division championship since 1990
I posted this in the Tom Cable thread: The coach doesn't matter in Cincy. The owner is also the GM. A GM who always wants players on the cheap. More importantly, he keeps the scouting department so understaffed that it's been a league-wide joke for years.
I like him but hes stuck in an extremely difficult division. He should be a defensive coordinator again, scary if he goes back to Baltimore.
True that, I wasnt buying into them all that much last year though. Their 05 team was a damn good football team, then Carson gets hurt in the playoffs and they get blown out because of it. Seems like Marvin and the Bengals have had horrible luck over the years, Chris Henry was by far the best #3 WR at that time and he ends up having legal issues then dying. That being said I dont think you can put all the blame on Marvin. Palmer hasnt been the same at all since the injury in 08 and Chad Johnson doesn't seem to even want to be there anymore. It'll probably be better for Marvin than it will be for the Bengals if he gets fired.
Thank you. I hope that every analyst who claimed that the Bengals would be better off without Ochocinco and T.O. watches Carson Palmer's final throw of the season before they spout off again. I'm not saying that the T.Ocho show is an ideal situation, but Cincy's real problem is that Carson Palmer's career as a starting QB in this league is finished.
Neither was I. My point was maybe Lewis is cheaper in terms of coaches with experience and he's been relatively successful there. And since they won the division last year, maybe they're not THAT far from being a playoff team again. If the only offseason move they make is axing TO they'll be good for 500 next year probably
