I like to constantly check up on different sites and see who they have us taking in the upcoming draft and figured it could be a good idea to post up the results of each of them and discuss it.

Walter Football: JJ Watt DE/DT Wis

The Jets will likely have to defeat the Patriots to advance to the Super Bowl in the next couple of years. To do so, they'll need to put as much pressure on Tom Brady as possible without sending multiple blitzers and in turn exposing their secondary. Upgrades are needed at 3-4 end and rush linebacker.

Walter Football #2: Lawrence Guy DE/DT Arizona State

Guy is exactly the type of player the Jets need at the 5-technique position on their defensive line. He has a great motor, is very strong at the point of attack and has the size you look for at 6-5, 300. This team needs a dominant defensive lineman on the edge who can stack and shed.

Football's Future: Cameron Jordan DE/DT Cal

The Jets have had a huge overhaul over the past couple seasons on both sides of the ball, but more youth on the defense is needed. Finding a talented five technique is near the top of their list, so they will be very happy to see Jordan still on the board.

FF Toolbox Matt De Lima Allen Bailey DE/DT Miami

Although he's a bit undersized for tackle right now, Bailey has a wide frame (6-4, 285) to add on weight. He's explosive and plays fast for a man of his size.

FF Toolbox Ricky Dimon Greg Romeus DE Pitt

The Jets also have no major holes, but the pass rush could be upgraded to compliment Darrelle Revis and the secondary. Romeus would fit the bill.

FF Toolbox Randall Weida Jonathan Baldwin WR Pitt

The Jets could use some help on both the offensive and defensive lines, but with Holmes and Edwards becoming free agents they have to keep weapons around for Sanchez to continue his development.

FF Toolbox Joel Weiser Jonathan Baldwin WR Pitt

Jonathan Baldwin has a lot more ability than his numbers indicate and he can be a dominating player in the NFL with a quarterback who can actually get him the ball. A.J. Green, Julio Jones and Justin Blackmon are garnering all of the attention, but it is because there are players like Baldwin in this class as well that make this one of the best classes for receivers in quite some time. When all is said and done Baldwin could be just as productive in the NFL as any of the other receivers in this class and some NFL teams will figure that out before the draft.

NFL draftdog JJ Watt DE Wis

Watt is a big time playmaker. He recorded an amazing 21 TFLs this season. JJ Watt (6' 6" 290 lbs) is the unsung here for a very good Wisconsin team.

    NewNFLDraft Allen Bailey, DE/DT, Miami

The Jets have a good team already and the ability to rush the passer. Allen Bailey is a versatile player which is the type that Rex Ryan likes. They have most of their offensive weapons filled. Bailey gives him a couple of options on the defensive line who can help right away.

    NEPatriotsDraft Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh

This group of 2011 WR’s is just insane. He would give this team a solid youngster to go with their impending free-agents.

Bleacher Report Cameron Heyward DE OSU

Heyward is a physical DT that is extremely quick to the ball. He had 42 tackles and three sacks for the Buckeyes this season but was the main reason his team played so well against the run. He can bring some youthfulness to an aging Jets D-Line.

Draft Countdown Cameron Heyward DE OSU

The Jets did a fantastic job of plugging holes this past offseason but one area that is still a concern is defensive end. Not only is Shaun Ellis now in his mid-30’s but Trevor Pryce is well past his prime and Mike Devito is best suited for backup duty. Ohio State’s Cameron Heyward, who is the son or former NFL running back Craig “Ironhead” Heyward, isn’t flashy or a dynamic pass rusher but he is a prototypical five-technique that teams running an odd front will be salivating over. New York might also be in the market for a big wide receiver to replace Braylon Edwards, who is going to be a free agent, so keep an eye on Pitt’s Jon Baldwin and Notre Dame’s Michael Floyd. With Vernon Gholston continuing to look like a bust and Jason Taylor nearing the end of his career the Jets could look to add some fresh blood at outside linebacker and you can’t rule out a playmaking safety or perhaps even a huge nose tackle either.

Mocking The Draft Deunta Williams FS UNC

In such a bad year for 3-4 outside linebackers, the Jets could go safety to help improve their tight end coverage. It's been suspect the past two seasons and Williams is a physical safety.

Draft Tek JJ Watt DE Wisc

J.J. Watt has been great this year for the Wisconsin Badgers and he would be a major upgrade over Mike DeVito or a solid replacement for the ageless Shaun Ellis. Watt is the perfect 5 technique for the Jets 34 defense and the type of non-stop, play through the whistle guy they are missing on their defensive line currently.

I think the same way as I always do.
We should trade down from our 1st rounder & pick up extra picks.
We wont even have a 2nd rounder (Cromartie trade) so we need to get more mid round picks.
Trade down to mid 2nd round and pick up another 3rd rounder.
I've seen mocks w/Jeremy Beal going in mid-2nd round because they feel as if he is a tweener (too small for 4-3 DE, but maybe too big for 3-4 OLB). However, he is perfect for Rex's system --- Rex likes big physical 3-4 OLBs (B. Thomas, C. Pace are the same).

I think post combine Beal hits that 25-35 range. I hope the Jets can slide back to 33-37. There is always prime talent in that area of the draft.

Talented players who have a chip on their shoulders for not being a first round pick.

Is it a fair assumption these haven't been updated in a while?

Hightower's draft stock is way "Lowtower" right now, while Fairley's is "Fairley" high right now.

Excuse the wordplay, I'm in a chipper mood, so I can't help myself

It's good to know now that all NEPatriotsDraft is good at is releasing UDFA signings after the draft. It's soo...erroneous!

I can at least comprehend the AC draft, despite having a great season, the caliber of Fairley's season hasn't fully reached the entire span of the US....

Bailey would be a great fit for us IMO. He has massive potential and looks dominant at times, but our coaching staff at Miami has done a really poor job developing players.

I think he'd be a perfect 3-4 DE for us.

i also enjoy that draft tek has us stealing Jeremy Beal in round 2, in addition of Watt in round 1. Never a bad thing to start looking at the incoming draft class.

    Forget Deunta Williams...another Leon Washington.

    I'd pass on Baldwin...terrible attitude.

I'd pass on Romeus...Bad back and 4-3 player.

Watt, Jordan & Heyward are the best fits.

Temple's Muhammed Wilkerson and Arizona State's Lawrence Guy are intriguing prospects at the position.

I'm not sure Guy will leave early though.

Players like Jared Crick and Jarvis Jenkins might slip a little bit because of the crowded class. It'd be nice to land one of these guys in the middle rounds.

    Things that stick out:

Interesting that no one has us going OLB in round 1 (Beal, Houston, Ayers, Smith, etc.).

I'd stay away from Deunta Williams in round 1 and 2 now b/c of the injury, but if he somehow slips to round 3/4 because of it BAM.

    Not a fan of Baldwin.

Love JJ Watt and Cameron Jordan, if we end up with one of those two i'll be a very happy J-E-T-S fan.

Lastly, what do you all think of Bailey in our scheme (as a DE of course)? Dunno if he'll last to our pick, but he's a guy that's been a pain for me in deciding whether or not he'd fit well with us.

I would just stay away from Bailey in general. I've seen the kid play forever, and he really just isn't the player that people make him out to be. If we're going to go with a 34 DE early (a position that probably doesn't NEED to be filled with a high pick), I'd much rather get a guy who's floor is somewhere around "capable to good starter". Bailey could very easily be a nothing in the NFL, he just doesn't have very good football instincts, and I'm not sure he'd be able to understand the importance of holding up blockers and taking up space like 34 ends need to.

People might say the same about a Nick Fairley or a JJ Watt, two guys who were used as passrushers/pressure guys in college, but I think they've shown enough as players to think they could adapt.

Shannon was horrible at developing players though look at how well some rookie's are doing now. That were mediocre players at Miami.
The packers used flash cards to show Sam Shields how to play the game.

I know, and I'm really happy that Sam's been able to find a niche for himself, but I think that a lot of other guys won't be able to do what Sam has done. Sam was also someone who came in as a freshman and played really well as a WR for Miami, so there has been experience of him being somewhat of a quick study.

Bailey has also moved around a lot (as did Sam), but it's just the way that he's never been able to even appear to "get it" that concerns me. Someone with his physical ability should be able to dominate, but I'd at least hope he could play well for stretches. Didn't happen.

I feel great that Shields learned how to play, but in a deep DE class it's hard to take a high pick risk on a kid to make that much progress. There's been a lot of Miami players who've moved on to be a lot better pros than Canes (Antonio Dixon is another), but a lot of those guys were low risk high reward low picks/UDFAs. People talk about Bailey as a top 2 round guy.
