Right, I'm sure if Peyton throws an INT and Bart Scott hits him the same way the Colts fans will all stand up for Bart and say it was a clean hit. No blindside. He saw him coming.
They will. I already asked IndyDrummer and he assures me that he'll stand up for our rights to maim Peyton.
Right. Kickoff and punt returns are managed chaos, where we send these kamikazes sprinting down field to hit everything in their path, so you can't fault Brackett for wanting to lay wood onto someone. That's what he's coached to do. Putting his head down and leading with the crown of his helmet is why it was worth 15 yards and a sum of cash. There was a less injurious way to accomplish the same block.
There's a difference between delivering a hard hit and laying out the guy with proper technique and doing it like a careless jackass. Too many players seem to fall in the careless jackass category.
that's ridiculous. they are either going to suspend him this season for the hit or not at all; the only way a suspension would carry over into next year would be if he received a multiple game suspension that was more games than they play in the playoffs. I'm curious, in the history of the NFL has the league ever deferred a suspension to the following season to allow a player to play the playoffs rather than penalize him immediately? seems to defeat any sort of reasonable thought process that a play is deemed worthy of a suspension but not immediately. if not, you have absolutely zero basis to believe they would do so this season. the fact that it was his third penalty of the sort this season is the only reason he could get suspended; the hit itself doesn't seem likely that it would draw a playoff suspension.
Aactually, I was comparing the Leon hit to MBP's Hines Ward hit, which he claims the rule is based on. No difference whatsoever ... excpet that Ward was strong enough to break the guys jaw and Leon wasn't. With that said, the only difference between the Leon hit and the Brackett hit was the helmet to helmet contact. In fact, the Leon hit was much more of a blindside hit, and got no flag. Seems like the refs only throw the flag if someone gets hurt.
I was just speculating. But, out of curiosity, in the history of the NFL has the league ever suspended a player for a playoff game for a third violation of a rule? The onus is on you to find this example; otherwise you have no basis blah blah blah. Because clearly the NFL only makes decisions based on precedent.
You're kidding right? No way Crowder ever saw Leon. You need to look at that hit again. Freeze it at 31 seconds and tell me exactly when Crowder saw Leon coming. It never happened.
Not really, and I don't think it will happen either. I hope he does though because I want no part of Manning in the playoffs, this week I'm going green.
Watch Crowder's head, it's not the back of his helmet.
I'm not sure I get your point. I'm not saying Leon hit him illegally in the helmet. He put his shoulder and all his force into Crowders shoulder and knocked him silly. Crowder was focused on Brad Smith and he never saw leon coming. maybe he heard him at the last millisecond. No difference at all from the way Ward hit that Bengal, and waaaay more blindsided than Brackett hitting that Titan. They whooped it up in the booth like it was the best hit they ever saw ... because leon is 50 lbs lighter and Crowder bounced right up.
To me the Leon hit Crowder did see him in his peripheral vision, we'll never know I guess. The hit Ward put on Rivers, he looks to me as if he had no chance of seeing him.
Leon also led with his hands, and never collided with his head. Ward can't say that. Brackett can't say that.
No way Crowder saw it coming, but there are two main differences: 1 - Washington made the hit with his chest, which is legal; as SJ's link stated on the last page, illegal blindside is shoulder, helmet or forearm 2 - Channing Crowder is a gobshite prick who deserves everything he gets, although I appreciate that that doesn't factor into NFL decisions unless they're wearing green and white
If Brackett got suspended for that hit, then it would be one of the biggest injustices in league history. He has little/ no history, he was trying to block for Bethea, what else should he have done? Let the guy tackle Bethea? I don't like that he used his helmet, it's dangerous and uncalled for but Harrison has been fined like 4 times already this year without a suspension, so there is no way Brackett deserves to be suspended.
Brackett made a hard block on Amato who was trying to tackle Bethea. It wasn't blindsided, Amato wasn't defenseless and should not be a penalty. I can see protecting the QB but when you start trying to protect long snappers who are running downfield trying to make tackles from getting blocked - it gets to be absurdly subjective in terms of how you enforce such rules.
Ammato is nearly facing Brackett at the point of impact. How exactly is this 'blindside'? If Ammato does not lower to accept the hit brackett's initial line of fire is Ammato's chest. Guy have helmet to helmet sometimes, it is part of the game.
no, the onus is not on me because I didn't claim he would be suspended for the playoffs, I said he would either be suspended for the playoffs or not at all but it wouldn't be deferred to next season. precedent is all we have to go on in formulating a logical and sensible opinion on this matter. you made an asinine argument that had no basis in logic or precedent, that is why your speculation is pure dumb fuckery and your attempt to defend it is even worse. the shame is you aren't embarrassed by the thoughts that pass through your head.
this post also answers the question that some have thrown out too. "What should Brackett have done?" not lead with his helmet, use his hands, anything other than the top of his damn head. on topic, should he be suspended... i'm torn. like on one hand i say no, bc i'd be pissed if someone from the Jets got a suspension the for the first playoff game, but on the other, i'd also be pissed to find the league's hypocrisy knows no bounds. i think any other week, yes, this week, prolly not.
