Lito 2009 was better than Cromartie 2010. Is Lito a better player? No but last year he was better than Cro has been this year. cro has been an avearge at best corner but for some reason many Jet fans act like he is almost another revis. and I think there are a number of factors why our D isn't as good and at the top of my list is the secondary which features Cromartie. The lack of pass rush combined w/ struggling coverage has not been a good recipe.
if the pass rush isn't as good and the blitz schemes have not been working, doesn't that make cro's job even harder?
Our pass rush was definitely better last year. We also had a better nickel back and better safety play. Last year the pressure forced teams to throw at Revis a lot more under the gun. Even Revis has had a much worse statistical year. He's still playing great.
Yeah Lito was so awesome last year that Rex didn't think he was good enough to play against the Colts in the biggest game of the season. And then when he did get in there due to Strickland's injury, he was promptly burned for a deep ball. If you would rather Lito Sheppard circa 2009 be playing this Saturday than Antonio Cromartie, you are out of your mind. Cro is not Revis, but he is much better than average, and to top it off he absolutely owns Peyton Manning and has had great success against him and the Colts.
Revis has had a much worse year b/c he was getting beat earlier in the year while he was hurt and working his way back. I agree those other factors play a role but again our apss rush wasn't very good after teams figured out our blitz packages. We actually ended up w/ EIGHT more sacks this year but our pass rush was better overall a year ago w/ most of that better pass rush coming early in 2009.
Revis has had a much worse year? to quote you, "#'s tell part of the story, they don't tell us everything" Revis's numbers are down, mostly in part to the opponent almost completely not throwing in his direction. not because of his worse play. this is hilarious.
We have no idea what happened, he played well a week earlier in SD and had played well most of the season then out of nowhere he gets benched. cro has been burned all year, I'd rathewr have cro's talent but i'd rather have the year Lito gave us last year than cro gave us this year. That could all change in an instant if he plays like he is capable of in postseason. That "owning" Peyton Manning is a bit of an exaggeration. he has 4 INTs against him but 3 came in one great game.
Watch our pass rush from these highlights in the Chargers game. We were putting pressure on QB's a lot more last year even if we didn't get the sacks.
It has nothing to do w/ opponents not throwing at him, it has everything to do w/ opponents throwing at him early in the season and beating him while he was not healthy. Do you not remember how much he was struggling early in the year? he really didn't start playing like revis '09 until the GB game.
I cannot watch clips but I watched that game this weekend and I saw how our rush was not very good. Phil Simms even commented about how we were covering in the secondary which helped us get to the QB. Our secondary did a tremendous job a year ago.
You realize the Colts provided the blueprint to beat us in that Championship game. They went in at the half and came out, spread us out and attacked our weak spots. Losing Strickland sucked but ever since than that has been our achilles heel. Even when Cro is covering his man for 8 seconds the 3rd, 4th, and TE options open up. How may times this year have we seen Scott, Pace, Harris, and Thomas trying to chase down screen passes, or dumped off passes over the middle? That is not a Cromartie issue, that is a flaw in Rex' defense.
Hey dipsht, I was commenting that your moronic statement didn't make sense. Because if you had read that sentence over again, you would have realized it wasn't exactly clear. I haven't stated my opinion on the subjuct of Cromartie, so you putting me in the category of "you guys" is just idiotic. And the fact that you wrote a 2 paragraph response to my oneliner tells me two things, that you like to hear yourself talk (or write in this case) and that your head is clearly up a part of your body that is dark and warm.
Not every team has a Peyton manning or the incredible weapons he had around him last year. Blueprint or not, we are more talented than a year ago yet the production has dropped off considerably. Scott, Harris and pace couldn't cover RBs/TEs last year either.
easy on the name calling, guys. The TT forum is open if you need to vent or feel the need to chew someone out. Thanks.
Yeah exactly but many times they were held back to help protect. Our passing defense allowed about 50 more yards a game from last years, and you say yards don't matter. We only allowed 4.2 more points than last year, so it's not as bad as you make it sound. We nearly doubled our pass attempts thus giving the opposing teams more shots as well. On top of that we faced a much harder schedule. Even teams like Detroit, they were averaging 38 points a game at home until they faced us.
The stats sheet is similar but the '09 and '10 D's are not. Remember, last year we allowed a ton of TDs on STs and w/ our O turning it over so the actual #s in poitns allowed: 2009: 187, 11.7 per game 2010: 297, 18.6 That's a HUGE difference Opponents passed 501 times last year and 531 this year, an average of les than 2 more times per game and on average per game our D wa on the field for 28:26 this year vs. 28:38 last year.
Saying we are more talented than a year ago but the production has dropped off is just not accurate. Yes we have many of the same players, but take a closer look: -Pace broke his foot and never got healthy -Ellis has been banged up for a while now -Kerry Rhodes is not here, and like him or not he was better in coverage -Leonhard is out -Strickland was much better as the nickel than what we have had this year -Revis was hurt and not playing up to his standard for the first 1/3 of the season or so If we'd had Cromartie 2010 playing for us in 09, there is a good chance we would have held on and beat the Colts. He is better than Lito, Lowery, Coleman and everyone else we had out there except for Revis obviously. And on the flip side, if we had Lito 09 playing for us this year, the pass D would have been much, much worse. I don't know what the hell you've been watching this year but Cromartie has been good. Is he Revis? No. Is he a top 5 corner? No. But he's very good and probably top 20 or so in the NFL.
I thought Lito didn't play much because he was still hurt. Not that if he were healthy he would have been better than Cro, anyway, but jus sayin...
