watching sports center last night, one of the announcers as they were leading into the jets-bills highlights said " and the jets, who got their playoff berth last week while waiting comfortably in their locker room" made my stomach turn. fukk 'em all, short and tall.
People love to hate the Jets, Rex Ryan, and Mark Sanchez now. They've kind of become like the old Raider teams. The sad part is people love to rag on Sanchez just because Rex runs his mouth so much. Sanchez always takes the blame even when he shouldn't, and throws the credit to his teammates when they are successful. Yet people just like to kill him because of Rex, but whatever who cares. Kids in his second year and piloted an 11-5 team, and made it to the conference championship in his rookie year. I'll take that all day every day, like you said fuck em all.
Jets do not get any respect, and will never get any respect. I don't have a problem with that, just win the damn super bowl and at least a few people will shut up. This is all going to come down to which Mark Sanchez shows up. When the the Jets play to their potential they can beat any team out there including the Patriots. But this "backed into" the playoffs argument is bogus. The Seahawks backed in, the Jets earned it with their 11 wins, tied for 5th best record in the NFL
I think the right phrase would be "coming in cold" to the playoffs, rather than coming in hot. I also predicted them to have a shit december. Their losing wasn't a shock to me. They got blown out once, the others were hard fought games even though one phase of the game never showed up that Sunday. This team is tough to beat. I don't think they are going to get beat by 8+. It's going to be a one score game. That's who this team is.
Yeah the Jets lost to the Ravens, Packers and Bears but it's not like they were never in those games. They lost those games by a combined 14 points, 6 of those points in the Packers game come from a failed 4th down conversion in the fourth quarter and a failed punt fake. The second Patriots game was a disaster but they're on another level right now.
All of them except at New England were winable at the end, Green Bay was 3-0 late, Baltimore, Miami and Chicago were one-score games where we had a chance at the end.
They only lost by 4 to Miami. Too bad they only scored 6.....They couldn't score a date in NE. I'm baffled as to how they beat Pitts to be honest.
The Jets beat the Steelers cus the Jets are a pretty good football team and the Steelers are a pretty good football team. Pretty good football teams can beat other pretty good football teams on any given Sunday.
Right they just couldn't beat Miami, NE, Baltimore, Chicago and GB. Great, they only lost by a combined blah blah blah. At GB they couldn't muster a single friggin point. 6 against Miami and 3 in NE? That's a combined scored points of 9 points in just those 3 losses. Guys spare me the "its ok because they only lost by a combined..."
The point is I'm not impressed. For all the crap that was talked all year they sure looked pretty mediocre most of the time. I hope they go deep and win it all, but I'm not banking on it.
So the question is had the Giants made the playoffs would they have backed into the playoffs after losing 2 of their last 3? I'm still trying to figure out how a team that finished 2 games ahead of the #7 team "backed into the playoffs".
If you choose to focus only on negatives then you will be baffled by the positives. A lot of games came down to the wire, we won Denver, Detroit, Cleveland and Houston, lost the ones mentioned earlier. That's football, point being we were right in every game but one. That's my point, what is yours?
I don't think people are marginalizing the losses to that degree but showing the point differential at least shows that the defense played well while the offense was on vacation. Throughout the season we've seen different parts of the team show up. Lately the offense has looked pretty damn good, even if it was against a shitty Buffalo team yesterday. It was another rollercoaster ride this year so we either talk like the Jets are unstoppable or that they're terrible and have no business advancing deep into the playoffs. Bullshit, this team is good. Yeah, the Jets have flaws but who doesn't? Schottenheimer has finally kicked his retardation habit, Sanchez has looked better, Greene is coming along, Keller bounced back, and the team may have found a nice change of pace with McKnight. That's only on offense. The defense pitched a shutout yesterday (ok, against Brohm) but the pass rush was tremendous and 6 turnovers is nothing to joke about. The Colts o-line is beat up and vulnerable. I'd imagine Rex has a few schemes in his back pocket that he's been saving for Manning/Rivers/Brady/Brees offenses since the Patriots debacle on Monday night. If the Jets play to their potential the Colts should lose by a score or two. That team just isn't equal to what it was last year.
Backed in would be a stretch, there's no doubt. They weren't all that great in December though. Beating the Bills is just what teams do.
Haha don't F'in hit me with Fortune Cookie crap dude. I'm not focusing on all the negatives, I'm definitely pointing them out though. Again, backing in would be a stretch, but its not like they looked great or even good lately. And again, I don't care what they did to the Bills.
3 of their last 5 games have been against the AFC's #1 and 2 seeds, and the NFC's #2 seed. They got it done, and now they have the opportunity to beat Indy. If you can't be excited about that, what does do it for you?
The safeties are an issue and the pass rush has been on vacation since...uhhh August. Cromartie as much as everyone says he's awesome, from the games I've seen he's either dead [on]or the biggest liability our there. The D squeaked by Pitts and that's a fact. Thankfully Troy was missing and we came away with the win. I'll take the playoffs no matter what, but lets try not to be Homers because of 11 wins.
I don't think anyone really cares what they did to the Bills. They have been up and down lately. They played like crap against the Pats and the Dolphins and then played well against the Steelers. The offense played great against the Bears while the defense took the day off. The pieces are all there for them to beat any team if they can get the offense and defense to show up on the same day. It hasn't really happened this season so I can understand not being confident that it will in the playoffs. I think it definitely can happen but we will find out for sure in a few days.
