Per rotoworld: In my opinion, this move shows that the coaching staff lacks confidence in our backup defensive backs - specifically Emanuel Cook, Kyle Wilson, and Marquice Cole. You guys know that I stand behind the Wilson pick. I just don't think he's ready to contribute in a big way yet.
Wow...I thought he was good during the preseason when Revis was going for the $$$.... What happened to him?
Not good for Kyle Wilson's self esteem. I understand Wilson had some hiccups, but IMO, Rex hasn't handled the rookie very well. The only way Wilson is going to improve is to get on the field, not in doghouse.
I find it unlikely that Trufant will dress for the Bills game. It's more likely that he's being brought in for insurance. If we suffer any injuries in the next two weeks, better to have a JAG with a full week's practice on the roster than one without.
I doubt this hurt him mentally. I'd like to hear what Dennis Thurman has to say about guys like Marquice Cole and Drew Coleman getting reps over Kyle Wilson. It has to have something to do with knowing the scheme and experience. Hopefully Wilson will get some meaningful reps against Buffalo.
Well with Lowery making the move to safety and us being really short on DBs, kind of need another corner anyway. And its impossible to tell which starters are going to get rested, with Revises hamstring, or how important Cromartie is who knows if theyll both be dressed for this.
I'm still not Cole and Coleman fans, good ST players, but below average backups. McCourty got lucky being throw into a situation at New England where he had to play. McCourty had a few bumps in the first few games, and gained confidence and experience. I'm not willing to write off Wilson, he's going to be a good CB.
I don't know that this is anything other than Rex plans on sitting down Revis entirely and not playing Cro for long. With Cro and Revis sitting, we would only have 3 active cbs in cole, wilson and coleman. moving up trufant gives them a 4th in case of injury. but like I said in the kroul has been waived thread, trufant has been compared to a Ray Mickens, for any long time Jets fan, we know he is a scrappy, high motor corner who just didnt have the size to bang with the NFL elites. Ray Ray was a pretty damned good nickel back for us in the early part of the decade. If Trufant could be groomed to be that kind of guy for us down the line it sure would be great to have.
A Ray Mickens - that is to say a solid nickelback - is exactly what this team is missing. If we had that kind of nickel, this team would also at least be 12-4 instead of 11-5 or 10-6.
We need to find a diamond in the rough to make up for the gholston pick. Maybe this kid can play. Sounded like Rex really wants to see what he can do so I'll be looking forward to that as well.
while its true we are missing that, its not the only thing that we are missing. As far as Trufant being Ray Mickens, I would just like to point out, he is not that right now. He is much more likely to be Drew Coleman circa 2008 than Ray Mickens circa 2000. The hope is that he can develop into a version of Ray Mickens.
I agree. I'd rather have players who know the scheme starting over a rookie whose head is still swimming. Given how inadequate the pass rush has been over the course of the season, Drew Coleman has improved his play from last season. Whether people want to accept it or not, it's true. Drew Coleman is better than last year. That's what I'm looking to see, how far Wilson has come along in his development against Buffalo.
ray ray was never happy, he always wanted to be the number one DB. he always resented the nickle back lable, but it was justified.
There isn't much scheme involved in man coverage on a single receiver. Throughout a game there is definitely a scheme intelligence element to a corners play, but you can tell if a CB has 'it' in man coverage. Wilson hasn't shown it yet and that scares me considering his first round stature.
