Obviously, I just want some of you guys to have some damn faith. We've been here before, remember? Let's see if our guys can do it again.
What about this Jets team fills you with confidence that we can make a deep playoff run? When I watch Jay Cutler rape what is supposed to be our strong point, I get a bit worried. We have a losing record against playoff teams, we're going to win 3 in a row? I really thought we were going to win @CIN last year, and thought we had a good chance of winning @SD. I didn't think we had much of a shot @IND. This year I think we have a good chance of winning @KC. Beyond that, I need to see more from our D.
he missed ONE reasonable kick against Indy, the 2nd oine we never should have attempted. The first miss was early in the game and we overcame that to lead 17-6. Even if he made both of those kicks we are losing that game b/c our D was atrocious after we got that 17-6 lead. Feeley was perfect in the first 2 games including a huge kick against SD that got us our 1st points in the 3rd qtr. Feely was good overall in postseason last year and he didn't cost us our loss at Indy.
u think i don't know that? - you are preaching to the choir but we have seen the body of work with this team - both good and bad. when exactly has this team clicked on all cylinders this year, despite the 10-5 record. maybe our cylinders are just not what is advertised. as u know by nature i am a glass 1/2 empty fan but to me this team is ripe for a buzzsaw in KC or wherever they go for the WC. sorry to be an ass but i was not thrilled by the game last week. the AFC playoff teams will throw on us no doubt like cutler did. jil
We have the talent and the coaching to make a run. We have to play up to our talent level, if our defense plays like it is capable we can win it all but that is a BIG if.
First of all, Jay Feely was our kicker. Not A.J. Feeley. If the coaching staff put him out there, then they had confidence in him to make the kick. He missed ...twice. We don't know what the outcome of that game would have been had Feely made both kicks and not given Peyton Manning a short field numerous times. Jay Feely's missed kicks gave Indianapolis all of the momentum. There's no arguing that.
Overall talent-wise and experience would say yes. But when you look at this team's fatal flaw, getting to and putting pressure on the QB, its going to make it awfully hard to get through multiple elite level QB's. And no, I'm not talking about Matt Cassell.
Jay Cutler is very good quarterback. He gambles a lot and Dwight Lowery made him pay early in the game for it. I don't understand why so many NYJ fans think that Cutler sucks. He was able to pick the defense apart because he had time to throw. I don't blame the secondary for that. Tom Brady will destroy our defense if he has that much time. - 1-1 against the Patriots. - 6-2 on the road. - The Chiefs have no meaningful wins. - Beat the Steelers and played the Ravens extremely close I was confident going in to each and every one of those games. We had our chances against the Colts early on, but you can't let a team like that hang around or they'll eventually put you away in the second half. Beyond Kansas City is the best team in the NFL. We're going to have to see more from every unit of this team. The road to the Super Bowl is through the best teams in the NFL. We have the talent to hang with them and that's why I'm confident.
I love when people who don't have a clue what they are talking about pick on typos to deflect. Rex made an awful decision, for the best kickers kicing from that distance is maybe 50/50. You don't take that chance in that situation. he gave Peyton a short field ONCE. you act like he missed 6 kicks. After the first miss Indy got it on their 34 and went 3 and out. man that "short" field really hurt us. On the 2nd one we gave the ball to Indy at their 43. That's a MAJOR difference. Maybe it isn't that big of a deal in college but in the NFL it is. Feely did not cost us that game, he missed ONE kick that he was expected to make which was very early in the game and we built a 17-6 lead after that missed kick. yeah it was Feely's missed kicks that gave Indy momentum. They sure had the momentum on the 3 and out after the 1st miss and w/ the way they marched down the field to score a TD to cut it to 17-13 at the end of the 1st half it was all on jay's miss why they had momentum:rofl2:
Just because you never give up doesn't mean you know what you're talking. Indoors that kick can be made. You say he had a 50/50 shot at it? In my opinion, that means it's makeable. He missed a 44 yarder and a 52 yarder. He gave him a short field twice. Just because they didn't score doesn't mean it didn't affect the game. I'd much rather us be up 20-13 at halftime. Instead, we were up 17-13. MAJOR bullshit. No, he missed TWO kicks. It's his fucking job to make field goals. He went 1/3 against the Colts.
Once the playoffs start nothing that happens in the regular season matters. You're 0-0 and the goal is to win 4 games in a row. The fact remains that the Jets have a very talented roster,a coaching staff capable of some very good game plans, and they have proven to be very resilient on the road. The pass rush is a major concern..but much like other aspects of a team...it can be a very up and down thing. In the past, we've seen this franchise clean up some terrible run D in time to be respectable in the postseason. With the veterans this team has in the front 7, along w/ ryan's blitz schemes...it's not impossible to think that the pass rush can turn around in time for a playoff run. I'm not exactly optimistic..but you have to give the team and Rex the benefit of the doubt that they can at least make this pass rush respectable either by scheme or players stepping up in order to bring home the lombardi trophy.
I'm not buying the NE bullshit. They've been great in the regular season, I want to see the defense perform in the playoffs. Tom Brady can only go so far with a bad defense, and they have improved but are still going to cost them in the playoffs. IMO
Just because they're the best team in the league doesn't mean they're invincible. It will be a lot tougher for the Pats to dominate in the playoffs.
I'm not fearing a matchup against NE because I have to believe that Rex AND the players have to come out with some kinda fire in their belly after that embarrassing loss on national TV a few weeks back. That alone should be more than enough motivation to want to play our best brand of football against the Pats. Add the rivalry and what's at stake and I have to believe this will be a close game when it's all said n done. They may win that game, but I'm hoping we take it to them and make them hate the fact that they had to face us a 3rd time.
If we make it to the next round, the fact that all the underneath routes the Pats run lets Brady get rid of the ball in under 3-4 seconds does not bode well for us if we face them. We don't have a single pass rusher who can put his hand in the dirt and be even a moderate threat to sack the QB. Last year Rex didn't have an answer for Manning to whomever Drew Coleman was covering. This year, NE is going to attack our linebackers with Woodhead and their TEs. Will Rex have an answer for that?
I think we were better last year. People always said how we were lucky to back in but I just look at the facts. We were the #1 defense(legit) an the #1 rush offense. Last year's defense was so much better then this year. That's the biggest issue. Last year we had Leonhard and Rhodes at safety(Kerry is soft, but he's better in coverage, we have to admit it). This year it's Pool, Lowery, Smith...ugh. Teams caught up to our blitzes so now we have no pass rush. We have the better passing game and we're more explosive this year. To go far we're gonna need to win shootouts. I just don't see the defense stopping people with any consistency. I think there's a chance we can re-discover a great running game as long as greene starts getting 18-20+ carries. Maybe we can control the TOP to help our defense out.
That's why if that that is their gameplan, which it is. Only rush 2, stack the box with DBs and leave them in coverage. Obviously not every down, but that would confuse the shit out of any QB. Their whole offense is predicated on getting the ball out quick, so instead of leaving guys open to try and get to Brady in 3-4 seconds just say no. (To Blitzing)
We keep talking about the pass rush, but it's pretty much a non factor if we wind up in NE. The thing we had NOT been doing is precisely what NE and Indy both do. 80% of the time the ball is gone in 3 seconds. What we need to hope is not for a magical pass rush (because there really isn't a 2.5 second pass rush GENERALLY...and definitely not consistently.) but a better underneath coverage scheme.
