I just wanted to get an overall opinion of the board on what fans think of Bart Scott. He currently has 79 Total Tackles, 58 Solo, 1 Sack, and 1 Forced Fumble. I feel he is an important part of the defense, more so the leader of the line backing core, like Leonhard is to our safety core. Although he is guaranteed an unsportsmanlike penalty every game, I feel those penalties set the tone for the rest of our defense. I didn't get to see the CHI game, but he did miss some tackles versus PIT. I've talked to some Jets fans and they feel Bart Scott is terribly overrated. Just wanted to hear the board's opinion.
some people think scott is supposed to be sacking qbs or some shit. but if you rewatch the games, and focus on the middle of the field..you will see scott rocking TE's, and knocking RB's fucking heads off...then you see David Harris fly through and hit the next fucker. he may be overpaid, but i think he is a very good player, and the voice of the defense..if not the team sometimes. Bart Scott's importance cannot be quantified in stats. He is the defensive equivalent of a fullback. He attacks blockers so that Harris has space to make plays.
Scott is our Ray Lewis. While hes not the most talented guy on the field he gets our defense fired up. Used to be him and Jenkins, so I think hes more important now than ever. That said talking from a pure physical football standpoint, the guy doesnt even come close to Harris. Hes still an above average MLB, but I think his leadership and attitude are what really makes him worth keeping around.
There isn't a single Jets player that the general fanbase doesn't feel is overrated. Maybe Mangold. Bart Scott is damn good at what he does.
I was starting to ponder wtf is it that scott does? Then i read this and i have been reminded and knocked out of my blindness. He does all the gritty stuff to throw offenses off. Straight smackin fools in the fucking head.
Great way to put it! I own many jerseys, I only wear two. My Away White Authentic Bart Scott, and my Home Green Authentic David Harris. Thats it. I LOVE BART SCOTT WITH A PASSION.
Anyone who thinks he's overrated doesn't understand the TED linebacker in a 3-4. He's fucking invaluable. Trust me.
Agreed entirely. In fact, I'll go one step further: he's more valuable to the Jets defense than David Harris. You can plug any decent MLB in next to Scott and he'll be able to produce, because Scott eats up blockers and opens up lanes. Harris is better than most middle linebackers in football, but he relies on Scott to play his game. So does the rest of the Jets defense. If you want a snapshot of how important Bart Scott is to the Jets defense, just look at what happened to them last year in the AFCCG after he went down.
I can see where the misconception for appreciating Scott lies. What Bart does weekly rarely makes hilight reels. I do wish he was a little faster though since I see him having trouble catching anyone from behind. Folks are looking for reasons why the defense is not up to par. Bart Scott is not the problem.

Bart Scott is not going to ever post eye popping #s, he's the guy that makes it possible for others to post big #s. I think he might be our most valuable player on D(or a close 2nd to David harris). he does not get the attention he deserves b/c he does alot of the dirty work.
Bart will lose contain, miss gaps, and go wrong-shoulder a couple times per game. When I look at who is fucking up fundamental things like that, it's most often BRyan Thomas, Cromartie and Bart Scott. That said, I like his toughness and willingness to do the dirty work. He's valuable to us, but I'm 100% certain he won't last the length of his contract.
he does alot of dirty wors so doens't get great numbers but i think he is just as good as harris, just a bit older. although scott is the heat of teh D while haris is quiet
