Woodson is fucking terrible in coverage this year. Cromartie is what he is, an above average corner with crazy potent semen.
If Cro used his tree arms to jam people he would be a great shutdown corner. His refusal to be physical is why he'll never be a great CB, only a good one.
I was hoping that playing opposite Revis would motivate Cro to play to his potential... Aso would light a fire under Revis...not that he needs it, he just seems like he's got pride.
Yes, for some reason people think he is really good when he is constantly getting beat. We had MUCH better corner play opposite Revis in 2009 than we have gotten from Cromartie in 2010.
Well, last year, This defense was described as Blitzing from all angles and rattling QB's.... This year.......... Not so much.... I see terms like "Worst Pass Rush in the NFL" said about them....
Our blitzes haven't been effective since the middle of '09, we struggled rushing the passer last last year but we were getting much better coverage.
We did but as the season progressed the blitzes stopped working. We were so good b/c of the coverage in the secondary. We made moves thinking we upgraded but in reality we downgraded. Cromartie has had some good moments but he has not been very good overall and he has been consistently getting beat no matter who he is covering late in the season. cromartie has been a major disappointment.
You have a different memory of how our defense was playing at the end of last season than I do. I remember consistently getting pressure on the QB right up to the Chargers playoff game. Lowery and Sheppard at CB#2 didn't have to cover for 4-5-6 seconds like our corners do this year. And when we stopped getting pressure in the AFCCG they both got raped.
Why don't you read my posts before you make a ridiculous comment like that? I have been on this board for almost a decade and have criticized plenty of Jets. Cromartie has had his faults this year, but his tackling has been better than expected. If you haven't noticed that, then you don't watch the games. People just repeat things they have heard about a player without making their own observations. And this board has gone from a bunch of sunshiners before the Pats game, where any thoughts that the Jets might a lose a few of the last 5 games were met with comments about that person not being "a real fan" to a bunch of darksiders after the Bears game , where Ryan has become a horrible coach, the team is terrible, and the franchise is going nowhere. The overreaction on this board is laughable.
Better question: Why the fuck is Revis being moved all over the fucking field? Why not just eliminate 1 wide receiver from the fucking game? i hope rex & co arent trying to fool anybody because...i'm pretty sure NFL QB's with some game time experience can realize he is switching his man.
It wasn't just the end of the regular season, it was most of the 2nd half of the season. The blitzes were working more than they are now but nothing like early in 2009. Thye biggest difference btw last years D and this year has been the covegare in the secondary. Revis is Revis, he's still shutting his man down but the other guys are not getting it done. Cromartie wasn't covering anyone for 4-5-6 seconds the other day. Those were quick hitters down the field. The Knox TD was out of Cutlers hand in 2 seconds, the best pass rush in the world was not affecting that play.
No DB in the NFL can cover when a QB is getting the time to pass that the Jets are giving opponents. The lack of a pass rush makes a secondary look ordinary, which is part of what is going on here. That the Jets have single digit interceptions this season after 16 weeks says everything you need to know about the lack of pressure from the front 7 and the extra "pressure' that puts on a secondary. The secondary has not played anywhere near as poorly as the front 7 in passing situations.
The second half of the season is when our defense really started playing well last season. I'm not going to argue with you about this junc. Believe Sheppard and Lowery were better in coverage than Cro has been. I'll believe what I see. Sure he's getting beat at times, all db's do. He's also right on the receivers hip for most of the time. From what I've seen his coverage is far better than those two and it's not even close.
Revis can and the elite cover corners can which is what many people believe Cromartie is. The pressure isn't there but whether we are getting pressure or not he's getting beat consistently.
The D was great early in the season then struggled, they played better than the middle protion of tyhe sched but the D was never great and they were always allowing late scores to cost us games. The D last year was not great at this point in the season, great D's don't dominate a beat up Atl team for 55 mins then allow them to march down the field to win the game. He's not getting beat at times, he's getting beat all the time. Being on the WRs hip is great but if you cannot make a play what does it matter? he wasn't in bad position on the TD but he had no ball awareness,if he did he easily makes that play. It's not about physical talent, this guy has more than probably any corner in the league- it is btw the ears. Lito Sheppard had a much better 2009 than Cromartie has had this year.
