Just throwing it out there, but if we were to Trade out of the 1st round to acquire some more picks, what do you think we could get for our 1st? We clearly need to address the Front 7, and there are really no safeties worth drafting in the 1st round with the Draft Class this year.
He would only have to be paid that much if he's neither signed to a longer deal or traded. If he's given the tag, in my mind, it would be done without any intention of holding onto him next season. He's absolutely not worth that money, but it's worth being done to try and get the most out of him in terms of value coming back.
this is a trade chart you look up the value for our pick and see what we can get. http://www.drafttek.com/tradechart.html eg. if we pick 28th it's worth 660 which is a mid 2nd and 3rd.
Ok i see what you're saying and there's little risk cause if we let him go he just reverts back to a ufa.
He is injured. Career ending? He is one of the leaders/signal callers on this defense. Easily replaced?
Look at the list of potential 2011 free agents. Looking at HBs theres at least 10-15 solid ones available for decent money. As far as dline/oline your options are almost all incredibly old over the hill guys (which we dont need), or guys who are going to command massive $$$. Is it possible to get a good deal at those positions sure, but I think as far as free agency goes theres no position id rather be after in it more than HB. That said if you get a HB who seemed to fall quite a bit thats one thing, but unless its a "holy shit i cant believe that guy fell to us" I think drafting a hb should be avoided this year. Not to mention I believe that LT could be back next year. He looked fresh to start this season, so im thinking it was the work load that slowed him down. So instead of him getting 60-70% touches (he leads the teams in receptions), maybe hed be far more productive if he only got 20-30%.
Leohnard got syphilis during the last game. Potentially career ending. we brought in this young raw safety named Polamalu he was cut from some Pennsylvania team. He might be worth developing we'll see.
That's almost as ontopic as the guy above you talking about half backs. I've seen mocks on other sites having us taking a safety in round one. Just asking, whats the huge need. Is it Leonard or Pool.
Obviously if Leonhard is on the IR with Syphilis then he is the problem. How is this off topic? Is the fact I spelled his name correctly throwing you off? I apologize... Here you go dumb-dumb its called google: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/2010/12/24/2010-12-24_leonhard_scoots_in.html
If we have a 2011 season we're probably looking at a restructured FA system so I wouldn't hold the RFA status of 3 of our biggest future FAs as a guarantee.
Dude I know this is a place for information, but if you go to the team website you can learn a whole lot more. Try www.thejetsblog.com too. You'll expand your knowledge.
Running Backs: Unrestricted: Ronnie Brown – MIA- Big money Cedric Benson – CIN- Big money Darren Sproles – SD- not what they need Ricky Williams – MIA- Old, might be the only good fit. Kevin Faulk – NE- nope Sammy Morris – NE- nope Fred Taylor – NE- nope Mewelde Moore – PIT- the cheap option Willie Parker- forget it Restricted- would cost us a pick for most of these guys. Tim Hightower – ARI- Will be tendered. Jerious Norwood – ATL- not a fit Le’Ron McClain – BAL- Will be tendered. Quinton Ganther – BUF- sucks DeAngelo Williams – CAR- Will be tendered. Mike Bell – CLE- Will be tendered. Clifton Smith – CLE LenDale White – DEN- sucks Laurence Maroney -DEN- Will be tendered. Kevin Smith – DET- Will be tendered. Brandon Jackson – GB- Will be tendered. Ahmad Bradshaw – NYG- Will be tendered. Michael Bush – OAK- Will be tendered. Jerome Harrison – PHI- Will be tendered. Mike Tolbert – SD- Will be tendered. Leon Washington – SEA- sure Michael Robinson – SEA- sucks Kenneth Darby – STL- mediocre I'm not sure where you're seeing this monster RB class of FAs, but on the other hand there is a number of decent players who have had 34 experience available. Plus, the Jets certainly need a higher quality of player to handle half of the rushing load than to be apart of a quality DE rotation. The problem with guys like Devito and the line of other borderline PS guys like Kroul is that they can't be depended on for starter snaps, but they are definitely good enough to spell someone. Jaques Cesaire, Richard Seymour, Marcus Spears, Travis Johnson, Aubrayo Franklin, Cullen Jenkins, Robaire Smith, Ronald Fields, and Ron Edwards have all played nose or end in a 34, and those are just the UFAs. I'd much rather spend the money on a vet with 34 experience and draft a young RB than sign an OLD RB and pick a kid who'd have to learn a 34. And I don't know if you've been watching LDT, but he's done. He might be able to play another season at a mediocre level, but his presence isn't scaring anybody.
I'd love McClain to NY, but it's a pipe dream at best...right now. Big physical back, who has surprising speed for his size. Such a waste under Mike Shula at Alabama and now Harbaugh in Baltimore. One thing is for sure, he isn't gonna play in Baltimore next season...
Anybody that might get cut? Frankly, I think we can draft somebody in the late rounds and plug them in and be successful.
Darby is a good "true" backup. He's not a player you split carries with, or an athletic RB you bring in on 3rd down passing situations, he's more of a back you put in there if your 1st string back goes down. There will always be a drop off of talent, but you wouldn't have to alter your offense when inserting him into the lineup. He mirrors Steven Jackson well in St. Louis, abet being slower...
I'm confident the Jets can fill the third RB spot with either a late draft pick or a free agent signing. Mcknight is going to be the key. They really want a running back that can catch the ball and run with it. Also, our offense has been so run oriented the last 2 seasons, I would expect as Sanchez continues to develop that the running game will become secondary to Sanchez. I would bring back Tomlinson for another year in a reduced role before I would use a high draft pick on a RB. The Jets are going to need a WR, DE, DT, OLB, MLB, S in the next two drafts. I don't see how RB could take a priority over those positions.
Im not saying LDT is a stud anymore, but hes still leading our team in rushing yards and receptions. Maybe its just me, but id easily trust him with the ball in our or our opponents red zones far more than Greeene and Mcknight. Obviously we cant use him as a workhorse anymore but I expect him to be given another year. As far as your list im not sure if all those guys are getting tenders or big money. Jerome Harrison eh hes expendable for the eagles. Ronnie Brown on the other hand has been riddled with injuries even though he was a decent performer. The guy also had an awful year (this year) and only 1 1000 yard season ever. Benson will probably get a solid contract out of our price range, but with his legal history its difficult to tell how weary teams will be about a 29 year old HB who seems to get arrested a bit. The Lions were talking about flat cutting Kevin Smith before the season, and quite frankly he doesnt serve much of a use to them with Best and Morris around. I think its very possible that he could be gotten cheaply and Id be most excited if we managed to land him. Norwood also would be a great move, he hasnt gotten almost any action at all this season playing behind Turner and Snelling but I think there would be plenty of upside to having him around without tying up much money. Its either look into one of these guys or spend a 1st/2nd round pick on a hb (which our defense simply cannot afford unless were getting someone who dropped really far), and I doubt wed be able to find someone able to have a better immediate impact towards the end of the 4th or 5th rounds.
Don't you think it would be a bad fit? A pure "scat back" on a power running team? Drafting McKnight is one thing, but going out and spending money for another?
