I wasn't worried for a second about making the playoffs, I expected to beat Buffalo if we needed the game or Indy or Jax were going to lose one game at some point.

The thing is we were moving the ball and scoring all game long out of the base offense- why try a trick play in that situation? save it for a truly big moment or when the O needs a bit of a spark.

and he's NOT a pro QB for a reason too. I don't want him passing every game or every other game. he should wind up w/ 2-3 passes a year.

nobody is expecting him to be a PRO quarterback, junc.....my point was that he has the necessary skillset to make throws in this league.

I've already said it...but i'll say it again. If Schotty wants to use the wildcat/seminole....he needs to include a few more passes for the run aspect of it to be more effective. I'm not saying Smith should throw it 10x a game.....just enough (maybe once or twice) to put the doubt in the back of the opposing DC's mind.

Some wrinkles that I can't believe aren't in our wildcat....

I-formation, Smith hands to back for a dive play

    I-Formation, play-action fake, bomb

    Standard draw play-handoff

    WR screen (Smith under center)

    Slant route...

mix in some roll outs... it smith has the open receiver he throws it, if not he takes off and gets 2-3 yards.

All are easy throws for smith to handle, and the other team literally has no idea what the hell Brad is going to do with the ball. If they have to respect pass and run, when he runs he will be twice as effective (which is pretty awesome since when the know its coming he still can rattle off 6-10 yard runs reasonably often).

    precisely.

Let's use the seminole for what it is.....a smoke n' mirrors package. Opposing defenses aren't supposed to know what's coming their way. It's really not rocket science.

    hahahaha.....man, I hate gimmick offenses.

But like I told junc....our OC seems to love them. So if he's going to use it....might as well use it correctly.

If he had that skillset he'd be an NFL QB.

For me, the only guy I want throwing passes is mark Sanchez, mopre bad than good can happen when you have non-QBs attempting passes.

I don't like them too much either, but if it helps sometimes then sure, I like when LT gets direct snaps, he has better explosiveness then Smith.

you are totally missing the point...and I'm on holidays, junc. I really don't want to get sucked into one of your asinine arguments.

So what you're saying is.....as soon as Brad Smith became a New York Jet....all the QB skills he had in college vanished into thin air?

this is why nobody likes talking to you.

I loved us yesterday. Finally some offense against a GREAT defense.

Listen, we might get bounced out of the second round -- but any realistic Jets fan would have their expectations tempered anyway...it's all about Sanchez's development..and he showed that yesterday.

To win in this league you need offense...

Oh come on, your just egging him on now, he obviously means his skill set isn't good enough for the NFL, hence why he's a WR on the Jets and not a QB.

Don't start w/ the silly nonsense b/c you don't understand this basic point.

Brad Smith was NOT drafted as a QUARTERBACK. he was not expected to be an NFL QB, there are a million college QBs who had tons of success but they cannot play QB at this level. There is a reason brad is not a QB and reasons why he isn't throwing often out of the WC.

Have you seen the 3 passes he threw last year and this year? is that a guy you want throwing the ball more? of course not. That is a turnover waiting to happen, you need to try to catch a D completely offguard like we did in Indy last year b/c if we didn't that underthrown floater would have been picked off.

dude...his skillset is FINE for throwing one fucking pass once every couple of games..Smith passed for over 8000 yards in college...are you kidding me?

this isn't college anymore, there are a million college QBs- MUCH better passers than Smith that couldn't make it in the NFL.

That actually wasnt the wildcat. Smith threw out of a base formation which I thought was interesting.

Don't get all snippy with me goddammit, I was just saying what junc was trying to say, but the way Smith has thrown his passes, he will be easily picked off if D's start expecting it more often.

It doesn't matter anyway, by next season we won't need the wild cat/ seminole/ whatever.

We don't need it now. I'm all for a trick play every now and then but we use them way too often which has always been my one complaint about Schottenheimer.

Well yeah we won't abandon it, as Sanchez gets better we will use it less and less and it will become more effective when teams stop planning for it.
