I'll watch it again, others say they saw it differently but, For the life of me, I couldn't imagine the so-called "problem-child" Diva WR on a Jon Gruden coached team get in the HC's face and debate with him wether they should make a call.... Personally I never imagined it happening to Rex Ryan, Hence the thread. If Gruden or Rex or any HC asks STAFF to help with a decision I wouldn't say a word, I would expect staff to be there just for that reason - especially the booth guys.

I just think some of the reactions are panicky and offbase... I already said I wouldn't trade him for anyone else and I rarely if ever critcized the guy BUT, this was the 1st thing that made me start to think he might not be FREAKING GOD. It's all perspective.... I'm far from saying Fire the guy - heck, I even like the Foot fetish thing.
This really isn't debatable. I'd love to argue about this, but there's really no point, because we'll never know what they would/could do without one another. I think Tom Brady is severely underrated as a passer. The guy is always referred to as a winner and the perfect game manager, but he's evolved into to something better than that. His accuracy is top notch, he's incredibly prepared for each opponent, and he does more with less. I fucking hate the guy, but I'll always give him credit. He's the best quarterback in the game. For the first I'll admit that he's officially passed Peyton Manning as the best passer in the league.

Well, despite the hate Gruden gets from too many here for his work on MNF, he's not a fair comparator since he's got an SB win and a solid rep as HC over a number of seasons. You make a fair point, but it's a high standard. Ryan is learning the trade still, and will be for some time. The more general point going back to your OP is that it's not like there's always an obvious call to make in situations of that sort. It's not like there are clearly defined rules, or even a general accord on the right call in every situation. There's a reason for that. The variables include assessing how your team and the opponent have been doing, what that means in terms of possible momentum, what effect alternatives might have, etc... There's a lot to consider, and making the right call is not something you can always think about in advance.

I find it hilarious that somebody is gonna criticize the HC for weighing the risks benefits of a critical game decision that he made the right decision on. Lets see he inherited a team that had gone 13-19 over the prior 2 seasons and one that had choked badly down the stretch in 2008. He is in his second year as an NFL HC, last year he was 11-8 and went to the NFLCG and this season he's 10-4 and headed back to the playoffs. He is clearly getting the job done on the field. Judging somebody based on a 2 second TV clip is just about as stupid and ignorant as one can get. Some of you people are totally nuts. LOL.

I don't think it's fair to use the 2007 record. I love rex and despite getting frustrated w/ decisions at times he did inherite a team that was 9-7 and should have been 12-4. he inherited talent and he has done a great job winning w/ that talent and the talent acquired after he got here which included developing a young QB.
He also inherited a team with no QB, 16th in total defense, 7th in rush defense, 29th in passing defense, and turned all those into 1st. The team he inherited was 9-3, and ended 9-7 as you know. Favre was a huge reason we were successful that year, for the first time in a long time teams had to respect our QB.
