Here's the list of NFL quarterbacks, post-merger (1970), with 800 or more pass attempts in their first two years, and a completion percentage of 55% or less. (Thanks to the good folks at Pro Football Reference for the stats.) I believe that the jury is still out on Mark, but when you look at these numbers and the names associated with them, you have to raise an eyebrow with concern. The scariest part is outside of Bledsoe, NONE of these guy improved substatially. Let's hope that's not the case with Sanchez...
its nothing to worry about. Mark is inconsistent which is what you expect from a sophomore qb playing in NY, when it matters he will step up his game. I would rather have him as our qb than many other qbs in the league. HE WILL RISE TO THE OCCASION.
Hmm..did that factor in 35 dropped passes by the jets this year? If you count those as completions..not that they should be..that brings Mark up to a 61% comp. percentage.
What about the stats that show how he broke nearly every rookie QB playoff record? Those stats make my BAC go straight to Braylon Edwards territory.
Well I'm sure those other guys had some dropped balls too...The bottom line is only SIX QBs in the last 40 YEARS have had a sub 55% completion percentage in their first two years as full-time starters and our QB happens to be one of them. And to DeBerg's defense, his first two years were in the pre "West Coast" offense era when QBs threw the ball downfield with much more regularity...

This. No one has started as few games as Sanchez did in college and then started from day 1 their rookie year ... he is the case study Plus, all this stat says that 3/5 were busts, that's hardly conclusive
One of our senior posters pointed out how no QB has ever taken the path he has. He is the 1st QB to ever start for one year as a true junior, and then come out and be selected in the top 5, and start immediately. This could either work out or crumble, but with Sanchez's intangibles its going to work out very well. Its matter of having patience because the kid is going to go through hell first before he plays up to standard. They are asking too much of a QB with his experience level too. He should never touch 30-35 throws more than 3 times in a season until his 4th year. Steelers did it with Big Ben and he has two rings. I want the same, but with Schotty its too late for that. Sanchez is throwing over 40 times and that's not what should be going on.
Where's the stat that says he wasn't suppose to win 2 road playoff games and take his team to the AFC title game his rookie year?
Sanchez should literally have the longest leash in the NFL. (19-12) record right now in his 2nd year. He has been through many ups and downs during those two years too. Expecting him to stay down after the last 3 games is just dumb. Expecting him to NOT be a great quarterback is also dumb. He is 24 years old. Imagine how he will be from age 26-34. WOW!!!!
That's not really a list you want to be on. Bledsoe had a pretty good career, and DeBerg wasn't awful.
