Except they started Joe Blanton in game 4 of the NLCS, who blew a 4-2 lead in the 5th, with them losing 6-5. Maybe if they keep Lee (assuming they still sign Halladay) they win that game and end up getting to the World Series.

If they kept Lee then they probably wouldn't have Oswalt so it probably would of had happened anyway, their mistake was allowing Blanton in that long

This is fucking absurd. Halladay, Lee, Oswalt, and Hamels. If they don't win over a 100 games this year, then it's considered a choke.

In the regular season they should win like the 1986 Mets, 1998 Yankees, and 2001 Mariners.

What they do in the postseason is the question.

Will they win the World Series like the '86 Mets and '98 Yankees or will they flame out in the playoffs like the '01 Mariners?

phillies are scary now but in 2 yrs theyll be the mets all over again

aging veterans who are declining locked into absurd long term deals with no wiggle room to add to the payroll

lee for 6 years basically is absurd, sure he is really good but without roids he is def gonna start his decline soon

Agreed. We weren't going to contend this year and most likely next anyways, atleast at the level of the Phils. Lee contract doesn't hurt us too much cause by the time we're back to being competitive that team will be filled with terrible contracts.

See the rumours are we will look to trade for pitching talent according to ESPN Ny , somebody at the bottom of the rotation who we can get cheap. Oh well anything is better than Perez. Gorzelanny is mentioned from the Cubs,.

Garza too, but apparently his substantial raise of around $3MM is making it unlikely.

I thought the Yankees were having a lackluster off-season, but sheesh...

Well if the Wilpons weren't getting sued maybe we would be able to spend some money like we should.

    Uhhh...have you seen that lineup?

The Mets probably have the best lineup in the NL East. The pitching isn't great, but the lineup is the best in the division, no question.

Even with a hole at second base, you've got guys in Murphy, Turner, and Emaus who will all be a net upgrade from Castillo.

I think they can win 85 games. That might be enough.

Are you trying to tell me that we can't afford 2 years $8M to keep feliciano around?

The better question is why would you want to?

He is a LOOGY, and those are pretty easy to come by. Why would you want to commit $4M per year for 2 years to a guy that is aging and very replaceable? Let us also not forget that him signing elsewhere will net the Mets a draft pick and that they theoretically only had $5M to sped all offseason. Should they really have blown it all on Pedro?

Paying 4 million a year to guy who faces 1 maybe 2 batters an inning is ridiculous and I'm glad the Mets didn't match the offer. He's been a good player for the Mets but that money can be invested elsewhere. No wonder he led the majors in apperances... he threw more pitches warming up then he facing batters. Don't get me wrong it's a loss but not a loss the Mets need to panic over.

If by anything, you mean absolutly nothing, than yes, they've done alot.

Srsly tho, they've done nothing of significance.

    And...
