Im not devastated either. It'll be fun to go into a season without having to win teh world series or its a complete failure. Who knows what could happen. Hughes can be a stud this year, maybe Burnett bouncing back and is decent...Nova continues to improve and maybe we add an arm yet. The world series is NOT won in December as we have found out numerous times. Lets just get into the playoffs ( perhaps win division perhaps wildcard) and see what happens.

I am worried at all. It's just funny how the media spun it like he couldn't handle the pressure in New York, then he signs with Philly where they are not shy to scrutinize players.... And all the while fans go to the game more for the stadium than the team.

We still have a really good team, we are definitely going to compete.

    Yankees get Russel Martin (source)

Assuming the Yankees don't trade Montero, I'm guessing the plan will be to have Posada DH with Martin & Cervelli splitting time at Catcher. After a couple months in AAA, Montero could be called up to split time with Martin. Not sure what would happen with Cervelli, possibly back to AAA depending on what they do with Romine in AA

As far as we're concerned that's the best place for him that isn't here. We would see him maybe once in the regular season and if we make it to the WS. Better than Texas.

No the best place would have been a place like Houston or Milwaukee, a place he has no chance to stick it up both of our asses.

hahaha yeah but in terms of realistic options this was the best. Sucks for the Mets but this gives them more incentive to rebuild over the next couple years instead of trying to compete with the Phillies.

God, I hope that's not what happens. I'd much rather send Cervelli packing and having Montero and Martin split time.

If by splitting you mean 95% Martin and 5% Cervelli then I agree with you.

Agreed, Cervelli is one of the most worthless players in baseball. A backup catcher who can't hit and can't play defense.

I'm not too torn up about Lee turning the Yanks down. As others have mentioned, avoiding another 7 year deal might be a blessing in disguise down the road, especially because Lee chose to return to the AL where he can't hurt us.

Plus, I'm not convinced that Boston is as great as ESPN and Sons of Sam Horn claim. Nice lineup, but plenty of rotation and bullpen questions.

    This is basically my attitude.

I'm definitely surprised at how much less Lee took, and the fact that Philly was the "secret" third team. He evidently really enjoyed his time there and feels comfortable in that park...good for him.

    I'm disappointed, but not devastated.
With the Yankees resources, we'll always field a contender.

And Tampa is looking to be much worse this year.

Is this where MB Green tells us to watch out for those Jays?

If only we put Joba in the trade for Haren, we wouldn't be in this position.

Last year, Cervelli was as good if not better offensively than Martin. Tells you how bad Martin was last year. But as long as he's rested and not worked into the ground, he should rebound.

But does Martin have the same energy as Cervelli? And what about the fist pumps? Can Martin show everyone else that he is excited and into the game like that? Consider me skeptical.

If he can throw half as hard to third after a strikeout, we'll be okay.
