If he was a free agent I'd take a gamble on him but I would not want to give up prized prospects for a guy with his issues

    1. Sabathia
    2. Hughes
    3. Pettitte (hopefully)
    4. Burnett
    5. Nova?

    All HUGE question marks

Pettitte may not even be with us, and if he is he is getting up there in age
    Burnett fuckin sucks
    Nova is still very inexperienced

Exactly. Very nerve racking. I read Gavin Floyd and Jurrens might be available. I wouldn't be surprised if Phillies try to trade Hamels either. Free some cash and get some prospects back.

So I guess Don's theory of Cashman bidding against himself kinda went to shit here huh?

We'll obviously have to trade for an arm. Anybody want to venture a guess as to whom we bring in?

Maybe if it was Tannenbaum instead of Cashman I'd feel better. As far as I can tell there isn't much out there but you never know..

correction: 5 years $120M ($24M/year) with a vesting option for a 6th year. Not as big a difference as I thought at first. Actual a higher AAV than the Yankees offered

and the updated figures that the Yankees offered is $132M over 6 years ($22M a year) with a $16 player option which would make it $21.15M/year

The numbers i had in my original post (the one i quoted) is actually the Rangers offer but with a vesting option instead of a player option, who offered more than both the Yankees and Phillies

No, it is just Cashman that went to shit (again) and at the time he raised his bid nobody was even hinting there was a third team in the bidding, that came days later. The queen of failure failed again but at least he overpaid a 200 year old Jeter. Maybe they will win 80 games this year but I wouldn't bet the house on it. Next we will hear Chamberlain is back in the rotation.

Who's to say Rothschild doesn't get Burnett and Chamberlain back on track? Pitchers go off and on like that all the fuckin time, wouldn't even be surprised if it happened. Hopefully Pettite comes back for one more.

Yes, I'm going to take the optimistic approach with the new pitching coach, new season and time for Burnett and Joba to re-evaluate their shit. They definitely have the "stuff", it's a mechanics thing. Maybe fucko will show them something Eiland couldn't?

I still expect Cashman to trade for a starter.

What a mess. I'm pretty sure Pettitte is done. That leaves us with CC, Hughes, then a bunch of question marks. Hopefully I was right about Nova having potential for #2 stuff because he's probably going to need to be around a #3. Hopefully this guy can get Burnett's mechanics set because we need him too.

After that it's all up in the air. We brought back Mitre, so he'll probably get another shot at starting. Then there's Joba who'll probably get another shot despite the statement that he's viewed as a career reliever now. After that, there's not much, and I can't see how Mitre can be in the rotation with Moseley and Aceves both gone.

Martin suddenly has become a must-buy. Montero is almost surely never going to play a single game in pinstripes. The question is, who do we get for him? I'm not sure how much we can get. We don't have a lot of prospects to include and while Montero is a great prospect, it's going to be tough given that we're clearly going to look desperate now.

This is really depressing. Between Jets and Yankees the overbearing hubris coming up short is really taxing me lately.

Oh, and please don't trade for Grienke. That's Kenny Rogers all over again.

This really makes the yanks off season a bad one...

Don where are you brighten my day

Just heard from Jerry Crasnick on ESPN he was hesitant about PLAYING in New York...

Is this guy serious? He is scared about the media and manic depressive fans of New York, so he signs up to play in Philadelphia?

Big difference is he's already played and been succesful in Philly. I heard on the radio this morning that he really liked the locker room and the city. Maybe there is something to be said about that shithole afterall.

As a Mets fan trust me when I tell you'd much rather you guys would have signed him. My team already was out of contention and it isn't even Feb, with Lee back in the division we're out of it for the next 5 years.

Thanks for screwing this up Cashman!!! (I'm kidding, I needed to add my over the top Don response)

It's possible that the heat of friction from all his furious masturbation over the Cliff Lee news caused him to combust. RIP, Don.

It sucks to miss out on Lee, especially for 2011. But I'm not devastated. Long term, I'm not sure it's a horrible thing to not add another seven-year contract. Between Sabathia, Tex, and A-Rod (and three more years of Burnett and Jeter), the Yankees will have a TON of money tied up long-term in guys on the wrong side of thirty. I think you take the risk with guys like Lee, but it's not the end of the world. See my post from last week below:

So I still wish they got him... but as long as they don't trade the farm in some panic move for a lesser pitcher, I think there's a definite bright side to this (although I'm sure everyone only looks at that grudgingly, myself included).
