Now, I understood your post. It was idiotic. If you're playing six lineman it doesn't matter whether you call Vlad a lineman or a tight end, you're going to have incredibly limited options offensively.
You really believe that Mr.Genius? wow. I'm not going to even try and break it down because something tells me I won't be able to get through...have a nice day.
I'm thinking LT's tank is running a bit low these days but for some reason, TIBS doesn't wanna to let go of the LT that he saw in the beginning of the year. Greene should be getting the majority of the snaps in the running game especially now that its December. If this doesn't happen, then running LT into the pile at Heinz field will yield the same results as running LT into the pile in Foxboro and the New Meadowlands. That would be miminal return on the running game and Sanchez has to throw it anyway. The Steeler secondary will do the same thing to Sanchez as it just finished doing to Palmer.
They did. DEN, MIN, DET, CLE and HOU. All UGLY ass games but we managed to win them all. Our luck/magic ran out.
While I do agree with that, LT is still a weapon catching passes and using him in that situation in a game like this may be cucial... AORN, the ShonnMower is a better option @ running the ball but we can't totally eliminate the element of using LT out of the backfield
LT needs to change his running style to a one cut and go style. He no longer has the legs to bounce things outside. I'll take one cut and go for 3 yards rather than trying to bounce it outside and get 1 or nothing only hoping to get the big run.
NO NO NO I just meant in a logical gameplan we should throw a little bit more than we run, like off playaction and what not. I've been against this whole 35+ passes a game since we got Holmes back. Both backs should be getting 15-20 carries a game and Sanchez should be throwing around 25-30 passes a game. But we haven't seen this since Week 4.
the key to exposing the steelers defense is to spread them out. a scary thought right about now, but that's the formula. Put their DB's and linebackers out in coverage and they're in trouble. their corners are not very good
But the only way you can spread them out is if you can protect the QB. Woodley on Hunter is an obvious mismatch and you've got to deal with one of the best pass rushers in the game on the other side. The sad thing (for Jets fans) is that it's not like you can run the ball, this is the best run D in the league and Greene and LT haven't been productive since the bye.
I hear ya Zilla. Basically Sanchez has to make plays or we have to run the ball down their throats. I haven't seen us come close to accomplishing either of those things since Thanksgiving. At the very least we need some new plays. Between lousy throws and drops and shitty playcalling we have sucked all the way around on offense. Maybe the team will surprise us and show up to play football.
Hey, man I totally agree with you. The team that almost went to the SB last year did so by running Shonn Greene down the opponents throat. Let's just keep running the ball and punt it if we have to. Mix in enough playaction to keep the defense guessing. I fully expected Greene to lead the league in rushing this year. We need to get back to running the ball. Ball control football is who we are. If we can't dominate on the ground then we're not going anywhere anyway. If you think Sanchez is going to carry us to Superbowl win throwing against the leagues best defenses, you're nuts.
As far as McKnight goes: 1. I think McKnight has earned at least 5 carries this game given how hard he's worked on special teams. 2. If Schottenheimer wants to continue with his pass-happy offense he could at least try a few more plays that give Sanchez an intermediate option, somewhere between 7 and 12 yards instead of having three WRs run 15+, the TE running a 2 yard drag and LT coming out across the middle for a 4 yard check-down. McKnight, if he has his head straight, could fill that role. As for the rest: If you want one name in the running game that can help any of the problems then it's Shonn Greene. I cannot possibly understand why Schottenheimer is choosing to lean on a 31 year old HB with leg problems and using the young power back primarily in passing plays. He's the type of back you want to send out against Pittsburgh first: a bruiser who can hit the LBs in the mouth. As far as not being able to get a push against the DLine, I don't think that I need to remind you that we haven't been doing a good job protecting Sanchez against the rush and having him drop back 30-40 times against the Steelers is not the right choice either, especially when Schottenheimer likes to call consecutive 7 step drops. Just because the OLine hasn't looked good in the running game doesn't mean the Jets can cast it aside. Not with the this OLine pass blocks, not with a 2nd year QB, and especially not when he's coming of the past two performances. Now is the time that Sanchez needs to be protected more than ever and the running game is, like it or not, the best way to do that. Greene can beat them up. McKnight(used sparingly) could shake them up. Tomlinson can capitalize on the opportunities. If the Jets are going to have any type of a chance next week then it's going to be the tough, close, nail-biting, defensive kind of game that we saw yesterday. The question is: How would you rather see your three-and-outs? Passes that drop to the ground and make the defense feel good? Or runs up the gut that make the defense feel bruised?
One difference is, and I accept the truism that everyone has 20/20 hindsight when I say this, that Faneca was a huge part of that running game. I didn't disagree with the decision to cut his wage, but in doing so we gave up part of the OL's dominance in the run to provide Sanchez with more pocket protection.
None of those games were really that ugly. There were multiple touchdowns scored by both teams in those games. An ugly game was this past Sunday. Or against GB. Or against Baltimore.
At one point this season tho our run game looked great. Maybe the production wasn't as good as last year but this is a different offense now with more passing attempts than last year. Before the bye LT was getting to the second level constantly. Sure there were no 40+ yard rushes but he was still geting a solid 4-6 ypc with a bunch of 10+ yard rushes. Now all of a sudden there's two guys waiting for him in every hole. The run game has become horrifically predictable. Faneca has been a disaster for Arizona.
I'm not saying that keeping Faneca would have made our ground game any better this season than it is, just pointing out one reason why it might not be what it was last time out. Also, Faneca doesn't have anything like the linemates in Arizona that he had here - he can't do it on his own.
