It is amazing to me how far and how fast the name and reputation of the New York Jets has fallen in just six months. Woody wanted big names and big mouths to move his PSLs seats, and it worked to a point, but now the downside of those decisions has trashed our colors across the NFL landscape. Six months ago, prior to Hard Knocks, Woody's plan was working perfectly. The hiring of the colorfully candid HC was heralded by the national media as a welcome change. The shopping spree for big name free agents had our NYJ's at the top of post-season prognosticator's polls. And PSL sales were moving briskly. Six months later, the coach is being lampooned as a clueless blowhard with the game management skills of a Richie Kotite; the big free agents are either looking old, selfish, or just un-clutch, and the roster and coaching staff is littered with people of questionable character who find ways to embarrass us on a bi-weekly basis; and the entire country is taking delight and actively rooting for our team to lose. Congratulations Woody, you've sold most of your PSLs, and you're team is the biggest joke in sports. Hope it was worth it.
Bah. Your brand is as strong as you record. A couple strong wins and suddenly the Jets are "resurgent," and "peaking at the right time." 's hows it goze.
I fucking HATE long cat. Anyone that posts that pic or quotes it deserves a short vacation.... /rant 9-4 isn't bad. We will need at least 2 more wins to get in because the CVolts and SD will be surging and 10-6 won't cut it. Sancheese better get is act together. Rex better get that game ball he buried and threaten to bury it in Schotty's colon if they don't get this fixed.
Yes, it's true that the media will swing this way and that. But it didn't need to be this way. We had good will, people were excited about the Jets. The constant chest beating, the ridiculous first-down gestures, and the small efforts in gigantic games make this team very unlikeable. And there is a lot to like. Players of character, effort, and true achievement such as Jerricho Cotchery, Nick Mangold, and David Harris are being completely overshadowed by the buffoonery of guys like Scott, Holmes, and the coach. I'm convinced Holmes dropped the ball yesterday because he was going into an early TD celebration. Ryan needs to change because his players are taking the wrong cues and playing for themselves instead for each other.
guy is a super bowl mvp and has been nothing but an asset. To call him out like that after a 2nd quarter drop in the rain is silly
If Holmes was terrible, never did much to help the team, it would still be no big deal because he was a 5th round pick basically. But guess what? He has won the team multiple games. His name should not come up with talk of Jets playing bad. As for worst team in sports or whatever? Hahahaha good one. Maybe most hated recently though. It seems everyone does cheer against the Jets, which pisses me off.
A little over the top. Let's take a look at some of your points. Free agent moves: LT - has been a model citizen and done a good job running the ball, closing in on 1,000 yards. He cannot make the line run block better. Holmes- Other than his terrible drop Sunday, he has been as advertised, this year, working in a new offense, and a second year QB, he has had a hand with two big plays to win two games. Cromartie - has done well covering as a #2 CB, he alone cannot fix the secondary communication issues. The Jets had their best day in coverage year to date this week. Taylor - looking every bit his age, other than a few sacks, has not done much. Not sure how you sell long time Jet fans to buy PSLs by signing one of the most hated Dolphins in history, but that is for you to defend. Pool - Has been just there, not making many plays, not much of an upgrade over Rhodes other than tackles. Edwards - has made big plays over the last few years and is a great run blocker. The lone black mark amongst all these "bad apples" is Edwards and his DWI. Tell me what the other bad moves these players have made. Most were obtained on the cheap on one year contracts. Tell us who is being selfish and how, and who has been unclutch and how? As far as Rex goes, to bemoan some of his coaching decisions is warranted, but consider the fact that with no discernable pass rush to speak of, injuries in the secondary and dline and yet the D is in the top ten in total defense. I will take that if he can correct some of the offensive problems. To call him Rich Kotite is a terrible comparison. If you want to throw a Dick Curl type reference that is more in line.
I don't disagree with your points. My main point is that personnel decisions and coaching rhetoric seem to have been made or designed to produce a synthetic quick, rush of success and excitement to sell the PSL. But as a result, our roster is older than it should be, and our team has drawn more of a bullseye than it should warrant given the fact that we haven't won the Super Bowl. And that weekly bullseye just makes the game more difficult.
Dude, everytime I se eyour avatar I fuckin laugh out loud. I cannot believe that moment was captured by a camera. Its so fitting that that bafoon is the face of the Jets still. Hahahahahaha unreal.
They sold out in some ways to win this year and I cannot disagree with that premise. I am sure part of it is to sell seats because no matter how much we think of this as a team, it is a business first. You have to remember, all these FAs brought in are mostly on the last year of their deal, Edwards, Cromartie, Holmes are all one year deals. The best of the bunch will be resigned. I don't not see an older roster as most of these aquisitions are still in their 20s. Taylor will not be back. Yes youth is needed, but on the dline and LBs. The secondary is still young, Keller, Greene, Sanchez, Holmes, Mangold, Brick, Cotch all have alot of years left. The core is fine, just fine tune the other areas.
Over-reactionary. Ruined the brand? They're a 9-4 team. The Jets could be the Cleveland Browns or Carolina Panthers or Detroit Lions just as easy. Then tell me about a ruined brand.
I'm not sure that the best of the bunch will all be back. The team has a ton of free agents (depending on whether there's RFA next year the list of free agents could be Edwards, Holmes, Harris, Cromartie, Ellis, E. Smith, B. Smith, Pool, Coleman, Clemens, Ihedigbo, Folk, Hunter, Pryce, Weatherford, Richardson, Laury and R. Turner). If you try to keep all your top guys you're going to have to gut all your depth.
Let's not get too over the top. Out of that list, the ones I would prioritize are Holmes, Harris, Cro (depending on price), Brad Smith, Pool, Ihedigbo, Turner (you have in there twice). Then I would work on perhaps Edwards, Eric Smith, Ellis (reduced price), Weatherford. Folk can go, no big loss. Pryce is a depth signing to end the year remember Roptitioa (sp?) will be back.
Thanks for that catch. They also lose Laury but I digress. Look, guys like Folk and Pryce (and Richardson) are all likely gone and are all probably easy enough to replace. Weatherford as well. But you're going to lose a lot of the other guys, and you're goign to have to make decisions like, for example, Cromartie go and letting three or four guys like Ihedigbo and Turner go.
