His confidence is being rebuilt. The kid had bad college habits and has to learn how to play the game the NFL way. Its going to take time, but the potential he has makes patience worth it if he reaches his ceiling. He won't be a total washout. __________________ The red flags were raised with Joe Mcknight when his college coach wanted no part of this kid. Thats all you need to know this Joe Mcknight is not long for the Nfl. Only good thing he wasn't the sixth pick in the draft.
Whatever it takes. I feel as if he thought his natural ability would carry him and he wouldn't have to workout that hard. He is learning now. The question is, does he have the heart to see it through and become and solid NFL player. I can remember Joe Klecko bitching about working out back in the day. Saying something like "It's no fun, I hate it, but it has to be done". This was in regards to a question about weight lifting.
how many USC prospects did Carrol take in the draft? That excuse has been used and discredited a long time ago.
anyone else want to see McKnight get some chances with the offense? As much as I love LT, there is no denying that he has slowed down as the season has progressed. He still seems to have the burst, but he isn't breaking any tackles. Now, I'm not saying give McKnight 10 carries; but maybe a few screens, draws, something to put him in the open field?
Well he got on the field for the one offensive play so that means the coaching staff trusts him now. On the serious side, yeah it couldn't hurt anything to give him a chance to make a play.
Hell no, but I also think it is tough to call a good game when you have your QB staring guys down. Your backup TE single handily killing two drives. And your best WR dropping a wide open TD pass. I just don't feel the need to take my frustration with the entire team out on one person. The entire offensive staff and players all need to get their act together... OC included.
Someone needs to motivate Schottenheimer to give McKnight more looks than one flick pass to the sideline early in the game.
This guy never should have made the team based on performance. This reminds me of Mike Augustinyiak vs. Dwayne Crutchfield. Crutchfield was the high draft pick, the athelete, but Augie made more plays in 1 game than Crutchfield did in his whole career. The fact that McKnight thought he didn't have to work hard in the off-season -- did I miss something, was he the reigning Heisman Trophy Winner and overall # 1 pick ? -- shows you the sense of entitlement and 'just happy to be here' attitude that too many Jets have had over the years. In that sense, he's a perfect addition to this flawed team. I suspect he won't be in the league in 5 years just like Crutchfield.
So 4th round pick is a high draft pick? McKnight has managed to work his way onto special teams and contributed as a gunner on punt coverage and kick coverage, and he nearly blocked a punt today on punt return. He may not be an offensive beast but the guy has already carved out a niche for himself on ST duty which, for a 4th round pick, is just about where he should be.
If Woodhead had also been a 4th round pick this year, who do you think is still on the team ? He should be helping out on punts. Cromartie cannot field punts, he is too tall and it takes him an hour to get his legs moving.
Not playing that game, sorry. That's not really McKnight's call, though. I thought he was doing well as a punt returner minus the fumbles in the preseason. The CS must not apparently trust him.
