Just curious - looking at how the phags struck gold with Cameron Wake, I thought why the hell not.

And I found some promising young defensive players there too. Can anybody tell me if they are any good?

    1. Brandon Browner, CB (Calgary Stampeders)
    2. Juwan Simpson, LB (Calgary Stampeders)

Cameron Wake was pretty hyped across some of the 3-4 defensive teams because he had dominated the CFL so much. I haven't heard of those guys because I don't watch the CFL, but I'd find it hard to imagine that they have as much hype as Wake did.

We tried it with Ricky Foley....who was cut by the Seahawks. He didn't work out. Too raw.

That's the problem with a lot of the guys in the CFL. Maybe they're fast, maybe they're strong, but they are either too small or just don't have the whole package. The bigger field and more "free-wheeling" style in the CFL cater to that but in the NFL where technical ability rules, it is hard for those guys to adapt.

CBs from the CFL almost never make it in the NFl. I can;t rememebr one guy who came to the states and was successful, maybe the odd guy sticks on a roster as a 4th corner....it is a perfect example of the point on technicality....mistakes are so minimal at corner, guys need to be precise....and you can get away with a lot more in the CFL.

There is a LB on Saskatchewan who was pretty dominant this season, I can see him staying in the NFL next year....not sure of anyone else though.

Maybe they have a solid place kicker up there.

Actually, I didn't think of it, but looks like a very good call.

That's one position I think you could poach....kicking is kicking....though the CFL ball is a bit bigger....but jobless kickers are already a dime a dozen in the USA.

Well. I don't know - I actually like what I read about these two kids, even if that was their scouting report only. Browner kid looked like he had a future in the NFL till he injured his forearm and got cut.

What I find more intriguing is the other kid, Simpson. All right - maybe he IS raw. I won't deny that. Now the million dollar question is, how worse can he be than Ghost? He looks like a leader on that Calgary team, and seems like a responsible guy, which you won't find in Gholston if at all.

Are there any guys that you would consider "clutch" kickers?

But Simpson weighs 236lbs....you want him playing OLB in a 3-4? How is a 236lb linebacker going to play a 5-technique? Every time he put his hand in the dirt it would be like saying "hey guys, run it this way!" At that size he's probably never done it in his life. So how would we use him?

Wow, Brandon Browner is a name I haven't heard in a long time. 6'3" CB/S coming out of Oregon State, I remember some people wanted him when he was in the draft (he went undrafted). Looks like he broke his arm in training camp in 2005, got waived in camp next year, then went to the CFL.

Very unlikely we get anyone good from there, and impossible to get someone at this point of the season.

I was hoping that after the CFL season ended we'd call up Ricky Foley and re-sign him as a situational pass rusher....but I think he's a major liability in run support.

Cam Wake is an exception. I admit I was completely wrong about him, as he's turned out to be a total beast. I've seen many, many All-Pro CFLers fizzle out in camp.... Tim Cheatwood. Ricky Foley. Casey Printers. Ricky Ray. Matt Dominguez. John Avery. Dozens more....

It's definitely worth giving guys a shot in TC, but to get your hopes up is another thing. Browner is considered the premier physical corner in the CFL, he'd be worthy of a TC invite I'd say.

Yeah, living is Alberta also, I know that those two are revered here in Calgary, but to be honest, I think the CFL is unwatchable. Every summer when I'm starved for NFL I try and it's awful.

    Glad I enjoy watching baseball.

The Saskatchewan RoughRiders, Jerell Freeman wouldn't be NFL ready, Simpson is a good player but not dominant.

Cameron Wake was a different story up here, he made BC unbeatable, completely at a different level. I don't see anyone right now that could make even close to an impact, but could make some practice rosters.

John Chick was really good and an amazing player up here but is buried in the Colts practice squad, he has a great motor though and would be perfect size for 3-4 LB in the Jason Taylor role, but who knows if he could transition.

Juwan Simpson was just resigned by the Stampeders.....and Browner gets flagged more than Ahmad Carroll.

Yeah the physicality of the CFL is mile away from what we found in the NFL.
From the Montreal Alouettes (the team that won the championship) I only see one player having all the tools(except perfect size) to play in the NFL and his name is Chip Cox : DB/LB 5'9 185 pounds, simply put he is our CFL Polamalu up north always near the action whatever side of the field and no mather how big is the opposing player he will tackle him hard.

I could definately see Rex Ryan using him on blitz package or to cover Wes Welker and other small but physical receivers.

Agreed. I don't give two shits about the CFL.

It's almost as unwatchable as Calgary Flames hockey.
