http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/12/jets_coach_rex_ryan_starts_ser.html Today will start the first of at least two "lunch dates" Rex Ryan is having with his quarterback, Mark Sanchez. Ryan said the two would meet shortly after his press conference and go over film together in a one-on-one setting to break down film, citing an increased familiarity with the Dolphins and Steelers' defenses. "It's something I'm going to steal from Belichick like I steal everything else from him," Ryan joked. "It's going to be Mark and I. It's no big deal. Just go over a film or two and I can give some insight or whatever." Ryan spent some time under current Dolphins defensive coordinator Mike Nolan when both were with the Baltimore Ravens and said he's very familiar with Dick LeBeau in Pittsburgh. Ryan said he'll point out a few things and give Mark some insight into how those defenses might change and react to him on Sunday. Last week against New England Sanchez went 17-of-33 for 164 yards and three interceptions. His quarterback rating dipped to a season-low 27.8. "These next two weeks for sure. I know those guys well. I worked under Mike Nolan for a few years and so I know Mike well and I've gone against (Steelers defensive coordinator) Dick LeBeau forever." * * * Injury report: Both Damien Woody and James Ihedigbo did not practice today, while LaDainian Tomlinson and Tony Richardson returned after a day of rest on Wednesday. D'Brickashaw Ferguson injured his shoulder in practice, falling down at the completion of a block, though Ryan says it's not serious. He did not leave the field. * * * Ryan wanted to make clear that he did not steal the football burial idea from Bill Bellichick. This one, he credited to his father, whom he spoke to after the game and got the idea from. "That was something that's been done in this league but I have to give my dad credit on that one," Ryan said. "He actually did that thing 100 years ago in high school and he's the one that actually gave me that idea. "I give Belichick more credit than anyone but this time I just laughed at that. I stole it from my dad who probably stole it from Pop Warner." * * * Ryan said the team moved outside for the latter part of practice. With Sunday's forecast in mind (50 degrees and raining) the Jets staff soaked the footballs before team drills to prepare the offense. "We're trying everything," Ryan said.
It's good to see Rex doing whatever he can to get better. Steal from BB all you want, just don't stop being yourself and you'll be fine.
I like that they are getting their balls wet too, from defending, to catching, and passing, nothing is worse then having to deal with wet balls. Reminds me, I wanna dip my balls in it! Remember that?
The "lunch dates" is in quotes, so it was Ryan who said it. Also, The State is the best comedy group of all time.
Now, the Schitty ball washers will be on it full force for having the temerity to suggest this. But in any structured environment, the exclusion of your immediate boss, when you're clearly permanent and he is not.....is a bad thing for said manager.
Probably because the purpose is for Rex to explain what the opposing defense is doing to him. Like BB (defensive guy) did to Brady about the Jets defense with the extra time they had to prepare.
Nothing like a good ol' fashioned Shittenheimer-bashing between the HC and QB.. it's good Rex is exerting some authority here and has realized leaving the offense totally in the hands of that asshole Shotty is the wrong way to go. The thing is, I think Shotty has the potential to be a good coordinator if he's not allowed to run rampant and try to show what a "genius" he is. If he keeps things simple and plays to the team's strength like in the playoffs last year, the offense can be more than good enough. Rex needs to lay down the law.
See your balloon right there. Here's the stick. If that were the case, he's be explaining it to both of them. This is playing one off against the other. "Okay Mark...so..when it's this down/distance and you get that front...how do you attack it" When Schitty gives a different answer, Rex will be the final arbiter of who knows what.
That's possible. I think it's more of him trying to help Nacho like BB did with Uggs last week. He was impressed at how well Uggs did against his defense after having struggled with it in the past and heard that he went over the D with him.
I really think you're missing the point here. Maybe I am. From what I understood Brady talked about how helpful it was for BB to sit down with him this week and explain what the defense was doing and why. It seems like Rex is trying to give the same help to his young QB.
At first glance you might think this a post by Hobbes. It is actually a comment made by a Pats fan with the words Pats, O'Brien and Brady switched with Jets, Schitty and Sanchez. Being uninformed sounds the same throughout all NFL fanbases.
Except the Pats and Brady have a history of success. Shittenheimer has a history of below average offenses.
