they haven't had legit speed up front since Abraham left...when he was here he seemed to get hurt at the worst possible time. The Giants keep picking up stud lineman -- maybe the Jets should have looked there in the draft instead of a CB and a project OT
They've done great against the run. It's been said countless times, but since our secondary has changed almost on a weekly basis it's been hard to get into a flow. I believe we were just hitting our defensive stride against the Bengals and than we lose our defensive QB for the year. Hardly any coverage sacks this year, if at all.
Taylor, Scott, or Thomas don't play on the D-Line. It's not the 3-4 D-Linemen's job to get a pass rush....so no, that's not the problem.
D Line has done their job In 3-4, you don't expect much pass rush from the D-Line. They just have to stuff the run and occupy blockers in the passing game. If you get a good rush here and there, it's just a plus The LBs are the ones who have sucked this year. They can't get no pressure
It's sad to think how good this D-Line could be if the Jets didn't waste all those draft picks on DeWayne Robertson.
Think about it,our defense is full of average to below average players with the exception of Revis and maybe Harris.Hard to have a dominant defense when you only have an average squad for the most part.
If there is one coach can turn him around, i believe its Rex. Haynesworth responds better to players coaches. However, it all depends on how much money he wants. He would be a left or right end for us because we know he hates playing NT.
While I agree with the concept, our D-Line fails to even push/move/collapse the pocket a little, while other 3-4 D-Lines that we'd like to mimic/ be spoken of the same way as (I.E. Baltimore/Pittsburgh), they push the pocket and make the QB move out of his comfort zone, or in the direction of the free rusher. The front 3 of our defense seem to make QB's feel as if they are in a Lazy Boy Recliner
You are a little off the mark here. You cannot realistically expect 3 men to beat 5 men on a regular basis. That does not happen, even in Pittsburgh's defense. The job of the DL in 3-4 is that... 1. they must occupy 2 blockers. (Exception: Bum Phillips' 3-4, but we don't run that here, so cross that out.) 2. corollary to #1 is, they must open up clear lane to the QB for the LBs. Once blitzing LBs get to the QB through the lane, that's when the QB has to get out of the pocket. Clearly, Jets DL is not creating any type of open lane to the QB, which is why it looks like front 7 is running into a clusterfuck when they blitz.
I know what the job is and do not expect 3 Rushers to BEAT 5... what I do expect is for the pocket to be pushed, moved collapsed... Not formed into a perfect cup giving QB's up to 10 seconds to decide who to throw to.
i absolutely do not want this guy, but its so tempting. haynesworth, and pouha next to each other would create chaos allowing our linebackers to beeline to the qb.
^^^^This^^^^ Before you say Pittsburgh has a much better d-line, who are their OLB's and compare them to the Jets OLB's. It is not the job of a 3-4 d-line man to get sacks. When they do it's a bonus. That is why Jenkins was such a big loss. He can get sacks as an NT and can occupy and destroy double teams. He is a rarity among 3-4 Dlineman. If the Jets had Woodley and Harrison, and the Steelers, had Thomas and Pace, there would be a Steelers fan saying the same shit about their Dline. Pittsburgh has invested a ton of money in their LB's and Safeties. They run a different 3-4 scheme than the Jets........ They got hammered by the Pats too. The Ravens have Suggs and Ngata in their front 7. Ngata is a physical freak just like Jenkins as is Suggs. Sorry to say but that Gholston pick really set the Jets back some. If he panned out, he would have been the difference maker. Then again Mangini might still be here if that was the case.
Yep...its like they ran into a barbed wire fence. When most other teams send the house, some one generally gets through. Here lately I see a pass coming out the aforementioned clusterfuck resulting in a completed pass.
If Haynesworth tried that would be awesome. Problem is he is a massive douchebag who doesn't try, so I don't want him near this team.
